I gave their duck another chance, despite the first one tasting weird. I’m happy to report the horrible duck that I had the first time was a fluke. I’ve returned several times for the Roast Duck and Roast Pork with no repeat incidents of my first visit. Roast Duck Kitchen makes me happy!

Still waiting for food. Just 3 people running business. The lady takes everyone’s order before distributing the food. You might have to wait a while.

So you don’t have to go into China Town to get great crispy Roast Pork, or Roast Duck(or Chicken or Char Siu or Cold Ginger Chicken). Actually probably one of the best crispy Roast Pork on Oahu. Prices are reasonable, variety of plate lunches available as well as meat by the pound. Their Crispy Gau Gee is as good as their Roast stuff.

On point! I came here for the roast duck and pork combo. It was the best I had in on the island. The pork skin was crispy and the meat was cooked just right. It reminded me of Hong Kong. I came again it the late afternoon to try the char siu but they were sold out. I was told they sell out the pork during lunch and only make limited amount everyday. Definitely recommend this place for a quick lunch to go!

The duck is very tasty here. the location is great with lots of parking, however the store is small and this place is sometimes busy. The staff is great and the guy who cut our meet was hilarious and the lady upfront is very nice.

This is the only place in leeward that sells fresh roast pork, duck and ginger chicken by the pound. Roast pork — 4 stars — the skin is not like chinatown’s, but more like the filipino lechon. It’s still very tasty and crispy. Roast duck — 4 stars — really tasty, especially when the duck sauce is added, and reasonable. However, hit or miss on the meat since once there was hardly any meat when ordering the half duck. The boney parts are seasoned enough to make tasty duck broth for saimin. A piece of their home made crispy Gau gee is usually included. Ginger chicken — 4 stars –lots of meat and the chicken is usually fresh and not pasty like some restaurants. Service — 3 stars — always a line and a wait. It gets really hot and sticky once you’re waiting in the store. Overall, if u can’t go to chinatown, this place is a pretty good substitute in the leeward area.

My favorite roast duck outside of Chinatown! Roast Duck Kitchen is a hole-in-the-wall take out place where they serve up some killer roast duck and char siu. I never cared for char siu but theirs is tender and a perfect balance of savory/sweet, served with a dipping sauce. If we lived nearby, I’d probably get the duck a few times a week lol! It’s the closest for us west side peeps, even though we loathe going into aiea/pc area due to construction. Will definitely be seeing you soon!

Many mahalos to a Unilocaler for recommending Roast Duck Kitchen. I recommend calling ahead of time for pick up and also to make sure that there is still roast duck; especially an hr — hr and a half before closing to make sure it’s still available. I am not a fan of the gaugee(sp) but I didn’t come here specifically for that so not as much of complains. I am a fan of the roasted duck + sauce and not to mention the the steamed cabbage. Food portions are fair for the price. Workers are also easy going; if you change your mind about which plate to get, there’s no hassle. For roast duck cravings, check out this kitchen. It will surely hit the spot!

Considering this establishment, specializing in roast duck, char siu, and roast pork(Chinese style) and it opens at 9am daily, Roast Duck Kitchen stands out from the majority of Chinese restaurants on this island. I know this establishment is legit in its freshly made products because upon setting foot into their shop, I was bathed in dry heat with the aroma of roasted meats. The experience is both annoying and reassuring. I also see big pots in which they boil and tenderize their meats and a deep fryer. A large oven line a wall along with sacks of cabbage. It is gratifying to be able to see a roasted duck hanging from the rack, chopped up in front of me, then assembled in my plate lunch. It is also gratifying to know that this duck has not been reheated in a microwave – because it had been roasted a day or days before – then placed in my order. There are no frills. I walk in, order and pay, then walk out.

So I’ve been hearing about this place from everyone else and I keep passing by when I go to the print shop. It was just time to dive in. Depending on the time of the day, parking can be a problem. You may have to park at the lower levels and walk up. As I approach the KOA restaurant and I look down the isle I see it but I’d been smelling it way before I saw it. Stomach roars. It’s a hole in the wall mom and pop have scraped out of a brick and mortar location offering a limited menu but with high quality. I’m here for the duck and order a whole one to split with a friend, and there’s no way I can forget M if I want to continue living. The couple greet me with hello. I’m feeling strange now because that doesn’t happen at most Chinese restaurants. I say hello back and place my order. I pay for it, about $ 21.00 with tax. It’s kind of torture having to smell all that goodness when you’re really hungry. I can’t wait to put some in my mouth. I ask them if they can put them in 2 boxes which they do with no hassle along with the crispy gau gee and sauce. When I’m handed the goods and exchange our final thank yous, I rush out and sit on the table. I open the top box, take some pics, and put a piece in my mouth. That greasy, bbq goodness is so heavenly good. I can’t wait to eat some more but I have to stop or else I’ll eat the whole thing and someone will not be happy. If you’re in the area and craving duck, this is the spot you want to head to.

Big portion, reasonable price, authentic Chinese food!!! I paid $ 11.47 for a roast pork and Char siu combo, including a can of soda. As a Hong Kong born and raised Chinese, I can personally testify that this is even better than those back home in Hong Kong!

I’ve see some of the Yeeps checking in here a lot, so since I was in the area, I decided to check it out… It’s on the 2nd level of Aiea shopping center, tucked away behind Koa Pancake House. When I walked in, I thought I could be in a stall in Chinatown. There were the ducks and roast pork hanging… a man an lady standing at the counter and a stove behind them. I asked«What’s good here?»…stupid questions yah… She answered, «Everything, we make only a few things and all good!»… I ordered the roast duck on cake noodle and she assured me the noodle would be crispy… I have a thing about crispy noodles. Got my lunch and sat down outside to eat. When I opened the container, I think there was almost a half a duck… and a bonus, a crispy gau gee. They also give you a container with shoyu mustard and duck sauce… the only thing that threw me off was the head cabbage… It didn’t seem to fit… The duck was good, but the noodles were just ok(remember, I have a thing about crispy noodles).they were«crispy», actually more like kind of hard and the inside was a little too soggy for my taste. I like to buy the fresh golden thread egg noodle from Chinatown, boil them for about half a minute, then fry them in little cakes… oh so good… so I guess it’s not fair comparing homemade cake noodle to theirs. I’d go back for the duck. it was good and would also like to try their other items, char siu and roast pork… thank you Yeeps for the recommendation.

For a place that has their specialty in their restaurant name, you expect nothing less of awesome. I will be honest with you, the roast duck here is the physical manifestation of awesome. Duck can sometimes be dry and overly seasoned. This place serves it so perfectly. Undoubtedly my favorite place for roast duck. But don’t let the name of this place fool you. Their roast duck is paralleled by their roast pork. Dear god, just writing this review makes me want to grab a plate. Fortunately I am writing this from the comforts of my office in Halawa, and I think I’ll grab some right now. Shoots!

I’ve seen pictures and check in’s here from several Unilocalers so I bookmarked this place. It’s been in the back of my mind to go but I didn’t want to journey to Aiea just to eat here. After speaking to two Unilocal Elites, Lyla D. and Ramfis B., about this place, I finally committed to check this place out. I’m very happy to say that I did! Great take out spot in Aiea. This is a hole in the wall type of restaurant that serves take out plates. You can order just the meats or lunch plates with meat and rice. It’s located in the complex with Aiea Bowl on the same level as Koa Pancake House. Parking is a challenge during lunch but worth the trouble. The restaurant is really hard to miss with it’s big red and yellow sign. When you walk in, you’ll immediately see the giant menu in front of you with the roasted goodies to your left(Roast Duck, Roast Pork, Char Siu, etc.). If you’re thirsty, there is a fridge with drinks for $ 1 on your left as you enter the restaurant. There is a table inside and a table outside that you can dine at or you can choose from the many tables that the complex offers. There were two people working when I went. A Chinese lady and man. The lady took the orders and the man was working the kitchen. They speak Cantonese for all you Chinese speaking folks out there. I already knew what I was going to order so I ordered the combo Roast Duck and Roast Pork plate. My friend ordered the Roast Duck and Garlic Chicken plate. The plates were packed full of food! You get a ton of meat over cabbage and two giant scoops of rice with one crispy gaugee. Roast Duck — It was good. Not too much fat and flavorful. Came with the normal dipping sauce. Roast Pork — It wasn’t too fatty and the skin was very crispy. End piece was legit. Garlic Chicken — Took about 20 minutes but worth it. Tasted like a Chinese style of Zippy’s Korean Chicken.

Love this place!!! I will drive here from the Windward side to get their roast pork! It’s crunchy, it’s juicy, it’s soon good! Put that together with the cake noodle lunch special, you got yourself a winning plate!!! Why only 3 stars then? Lately, they haven’t had char siu. I come a little after they open, so it’s not like they run out. Can’t wait until I can get some!

BBQ? Did someone say or ask for«Q»? No, no. I’m not referring to the great Texan smokehouses that serve up mounds of pulled pork or tender smoked beef ribs, brisket, sausages or chicken. Well, we have the next best thing and it’s Chinese BBQ! As a self-professed porkaholic, my inclinations would normally lead me to Chinatown. But, sometimes, I just don’t want to deal with the parking issues of Downtown Honolulu and today, my husband and I were buzzing around the Aiea/Pearl City area. So, our pork-centric tastebuds led us to Roast Duck Kitchen in the Aiea Shopping Center. It’s conveniently located for West and Central Oahu folks with lots of parking, too. As its name boldly proclaims, roast duck is this business’ main business. This Chinese BBQ also features chicken and pork that they also roast to perfection! Each meat product is seasoned-well, roasted until tender, juicy and crispy skinned. Additionally, RDK goes further by serving up plate lunches that showcase their roasted meat products and even offer catering services. Hmm, getting a catered platter would be a great idea for potluck contributions. We ordered ½ of a roast duck and a pound of crispy skin roast pork to-go. The butcher showed us the nice plump duck we had selected to chop for us and even cut us a middle cut of the pork. While we waited patiently in this small space we could tell that the whole operation extended further back from the service counter. That’s where all the roasting«magic» occurs. It was really sweet of the young counter help to put in two freshly deep-fried gau gee(a variation of won ton) at no additional cost. Fortunately, we had just eaten lunch at Jackie’s Diner so we made it home without breaking into our still hot from the oven treasures. Upon arriving home, we vented the containers as the aromas wafted out and filled our kitchen. Our noses were beckoned by the smell of Chinese 5-spices mixed in with the fresh BBQ pork and duck. We each chomped into a crisp gau gee. It was truly packed with a pork filling which we thought tasted a bit salty(for our tastebuds). Maybe we should have eaten it with a bowl of rice to better distribute its savoriness. But, the real stars were the crisp skinned, meaty and juicy duck and roast pork! Both items were really tasty and succulent! Whether you’re just looking for a Chinese plate lunch without having to fuss with the crazy parking issues or considering a catered potluck contribution, I think that Roast Duck Kitchen would be worth a try, if you’re in the area. #349

«Surprise, surprise” — those most excellent finds in unexpected locations. If someone were to ask you, «where can I get the best Chinese style roasted meats and gau gee in Hawaii» most people would say, «go to Chinatown». Yes Chinatown has some great places for these roasted meats but the best, and I mean the best stuff(in the opinion of many) is found in of all places, Aiea– and under one roof too. Roast Duck Kitchen is a small counter type operation that is located on the second floor of the aiea shopping center(the one with Aiea Bowl) near Koa Pancake House and is found at the top of the escalator from the first floor. There are two outdoor tables if you want to grind there but for the most part, people get there stuff to enjoy later. A delicious assortment of the old standbys, roast duck, chicken, crispy skin roast pork and Char Siu and other assorted items are made fresh everyday– if you go later in the day items will run out. The crispy skin roast pork is among the best I have tasted while the char siu is a very flavorful and sweeter side offering. We really like their crispy gau gee– some of the biggest pieces of gau gee we have ever seen. You know how White Castle sells their burgers by the bag? The same can be said of the crispy gau gee– order a «bagful» of these bad boys to munch on as you merrily make your way home. Winnahs in my book! Cannot go wrong!
