Soooo disappointed. Haven’t been here for a while and was looking forward to it. Sadly, the sundaes are served in paper cups/bowls and the fudge didn’t taste right. The ground was filthy. I used to love this place for the delicious sundaes and the overall experience. I will say the two young girls working were very pleasant and professional. But I won’t be coming back.

I could see the difference between joking and serious so she wasn’t joking! Not even a smile on her face she looked annoyed too.

This place has the best ice cream in the area! The staff are always polite and very nice. The portions have always been generous. The Coconut is wonderful, the Rocky Road is awesome and the Banana is Fantastic. These are just a few of the great flavors they have.

Loard’s Ice Cream is good. Everything I’ve tried here has been tasty and creamy. Unlike many other ice cream parlors, their fruit flavors really taste like real fruit. Was kind of disappointed with the Ube(purple yam). I did not taste any macapuno as advertised. It may be because the scoop size was quite small. My star summary: 4 stars for ambiance. Shop and dining area was clean both inside and outside. 3 stars for ice cream. Nice assortment of flavors although you could not see them. 3.5 stars for service. Staff was polite, but not very friendly. It is okay to smile. 2 stars for value. Portions were small for the price. Maybe depends on who is working at the time. Based on what we received, it was smaller than the competition and priced higher. Overall, I would only return if in the Alameda South Shore Shopping Center. That being said, will probably be returning fairly often cause we are always at this shopping center when we are in town.

Super underwhelmed by this mediocre ice cream joint. Nothing special about the décor and the product was totally forgettable. I think McD’s would have satisfied me more.

I discovered Loard’s for the first time in my life when I started working near the same plaza. This place is such a cute and small family owned business, the ice cream is cheap and they give huuuge portions. The girls working behind the counter are really friendly and super pretty also. *-* This was where I first discovered Ube because my coworker introduced it to me! It’s a vibrant purple colored ice cream made from purple yam, and it tastes like coconut! :9

This is as old-school an ice cream parlor as you could possibly find these days. Even Fenton’s doesn’t look so vintage anymore since the fire. Jamie W. and I came here by happenstance when we were looking for something sweet after a heavy Lithuanian meal at Mama Papa’s on Park. We had already been to Tucker’s Super Creamed on a previous cross-bay trek, and I kept reading in the Unilocal reviews about how Loard’s serves up Ube, the Filipino purple yam, as an ice cream flavor. I had a hankering to try it. It’s actually not that unusual to find Ube since Mitchell’s has offered it among their flavors for years, but I’ve never tried it before. Loard’s somehow fits in the South Shore Center since the outdoor mall also feels retro like what Hillsdale in San Mateo looked like in the Sixties. All they need to add is the pony ride carousel with real ponies and hay on the ground. When we came upon Loard’s, it looked like something from my childhood with the circus tent awning and turquoise tables and chairs. Inside it looked a bit tired with a whole counter devoted to their merchandise(photo: ). I went for a $ 4.85 Double Scoop of the Ube Macapuno, which adds sweet coconut to the purple yam, and Rocky Road just in case I find myself hating the ube(photo: ). I didn’t. It was tropically tasty and maybe a tad sweet for my preference, but that could have been the coconut. Jamie couldn’t help himself and got a $ 6.75 Regular Sundae with Vanilla Ice Cream and Caramel Sauce(photo: ). We walked outside to eat our treats under the big top waiting for Wally and the Beav to show up, but I think that darn Eddie Haskell told them to go to Tucker’s instead. I hope Lumpy beats him up. ICECREAM — 3 stars… Ube down AMBIANCE — 3 stars… old-school parlor but kinda tired SERVICE — 3.5 stars… veteran scooper gave me a history of Loard’s ice cream… uh, thank you TOTAL — 3 stars… if you want to have a retro visit and try some purple yam, this may be the spot

«Gelatipop or Ube ice cream from Loard’s? Gelato or Ube?» That was my thought process the whole time I was eating my early dinner at Applebee’s and it was killing me. I had to peep the reviews on both places and after seeing all the delicious photos, I had to go with Loard’s. Another day Gelatipop, I’ll taste you one day! It was a pretty chilly day, a school day too so there wasn’t any craziness when my boyfriend and I stopped by. The traditional candy/ice cream shop theme of Loard’s was nice but the interior inside lacked an overall look. I’m not sure how long this place has been here but the inside was really spaced out and lacked a «pizazz» to it. I probably need to see how this place lights up when it gets busy, maybe they spaced everything out because it tends to be busy? Two ladies inside: one uninterested and the other enthusiastic enough to help us. As we were gazing at the menu board, I noticed the enthusiastic one was making fresh waffle cones! I knew I had to get my ube ice cream on a freshly made, hot, waffle cone… It just doesn’t get any better than that. They give generous scoops, I wasn’t paying much attention to the prices but for a single scoop on a cone and 2 scoops w/jimmies in a cup came to $ 10+, a little steep in my opinion. UBE: now if you’re Filipino or even have heard of the Philippine company called Magnolia’s, you should know exactly how ube ice cream should taste like, this place doesn’t come close to Magnolia’s ube ice cream which was disappointing to me. Loard’s ube was kind of on the bland side, I could distinctly taste the coconut and also a subtle taste of food coloring. Sad. But it’s okay! I’ll definitely come back and try their blueberry cheesecake that everyone has recommended. If you’re unsure of a flavor, ask for a tasting! Also, I wish they displayed their ice cream’s without the metal lid hiding the beautiful ice cream and their colors. But I also don’t mind too much, it actually reminds me of the old school ice cream carts that would come around in our neighborhood when I was a kid in Philippines, ah, a little nostalgia just hit me. You got me Loard’s, you got me.

My first time here and was not disappointed with the ube with Macanudo scoop of ice cream. Delish! Also bought a quart of Mocha Chip. That was also creamy and good.

Loard’s i didn’t recognize u today. just a hanging sign and dark tinted windows. couldn’t see inside. yesteryears, Loard’s was a prominent cornerstone of South Shore, now it’s literally a sideline attraction. blame it on megashopping centers. yes, south shore was dying, so the fix was in. my bad. i seldom eat ice cream these days. in my youth, i was here weekly, ok, once a month. now that i’ve discovered liquor is quicker and transportable, i’ve passed u by. thanx for the good times in the olde days when i was(temporarily) sober.

Loard’s has been around for awhile and I like this spot, where they have booths to sit. The ice cream is yummy and they have unusual flavors that I indulge in(with the help of a lactose pill). My favorite flavors are Ube(a Filipino flavor) and lemon chiffon ice cream! I had a double scoop one of each flavor! I was in ice cream heaven!

Having been to it’s sister concern on the warmer side of the Caldecott Tunnel, I wasn’t expecting much from Loard’s. We decided to share a waffle cone, filled half-and-half with the Ube ice-cream and the Blueberry Cheesecake ice-cream. The blueberry cheesecake ice-cream was fantastic! It had a slightly gooey texture and went really well with the waffle cone. The ube ice-cream was almost as good and was pretty interesting. Maybe I had the wrong ice-cream the last time around.

Never got to try Loard’s until recently, and it is now another of my go-to spots in Alameda for ice cream that’s open late. Your classic tacky 50s ice cream parlor style is what you will see when you walk in! (+) Black and Tan Sundae– Vanilla ice crea, fudge, toasted almond ice cream, caramel, whipped cream, chopped nuts, and cherry. Chocolate sauce a little too sweet, but since the ice cream is the star, I’m willing to over look that. In love with the toasted almond ice cream– so creamy with crunchy almonds studded within. (+) Toasted Almond Ice cream itself!

Although nothing can come close to the nostalgia that comes with getting a cone from Tucker’s, Loard’s serves up surprisingly delicious ice cream. I had a scoop of the chocolate shower and it was heavenly. Creamy, smooth, with generous chocolate bits without the side of pretension, it definitely left me wanting more. I’ll definitely be back! Try also: toasted almond.

Loard’s is kind of a divey ice cream parlor. Some of the lights are out, there are printed out signs everywhere, and there are tons of arcade machines begging for your money. Not exactly the most wholesome of shops. The ice cream itself is plenty solid — it’s nice n’ creamy, and there’s tons of flavors to boot. It just sucks that the quality of the ice cream doesn’t meet the quality of the shop itself. Plus, at $ 3 for a single scoop, it’s kind of pricy too.

Purely subjective review based off my tastes So don’t think this place is a waste Their ice cream is good and I only had one Got here with my wife, daughter, and son Had the toasted almond and it was alright Don’t come here too often if you wanna stay light Space was ok, not that spacious but that’s fine After all, you come here for ice cream not to fine dine. No huge issues with this place. It’s ok. Kinda tight with strollers but that’s cool. Need to try other flavors but we’ll see

First time I’ve been to this location. I feel like a parrot but I must echo what Brian said. The Black and Tan Sundae is a caramel, creamy, marshmellow cup of ice cream dessert heaven. I don’t often eat a lot of sweets or desserts so I actually could not finish it but that had nothing to do with the sundae and only because I eat dessert in small portions. Loved, loved, loved it!
