Came here on my lunch break with my boyfriend after seeing all the good Unilocal reviews. Place was pretty empty other than a big table. Waitress comes to our table to take drink order after we sat there for 15 minutes. I order a water, he orders a sprite. 10 minutes later, we get two waters. no sprite. She walked away so quickly after setting the waters down that we didn’t even have a chance to say anything. We waited another 20 minutes waiting for her to come back to order food. Finally I got up & found her flirting at the bar. told her we were ready to order & she said we have to order in the back counter. Would have been nice to know that in the first place instead of sitting there like idiots. So I go to the back & order chicken strips, mozzarella sticks, & cheeseburger sliders. We sat there for 30 minutes. the chicken strips & sliders finally come. Chicken strips were undercooked. I had to spit it out. Sliders were undercooked as well. Fries were rock hard. Food wouldn’t have even been good if I was drunk. Waited another 20 minutes for the mozzarella sticks. never came. So we got up & left. Worst lunch we’ve ever had. VERY disappointed.

Bar tender was a bit rude, not sure if this was just his personality or what, but treat first time customers with a warm welcome and don’t be rude when someone asks questions like is there a menu or what’s a house speciality drink here. Oh the food – their onion rings and mozzarella balls were not good. Will not come back.

I love this place. It’s got a great beer menu, lots of TV’s and the staff is very welcoming and accommodating. The kitchen is run as a stand alone operation and their menu is excellent. They serve the usual sports bar fare but they also have interesting specials. One of today’s was Country Fried Chicken, their take on Chicken Fried Steak. Heaven on a plate. I wish they had joints like this in Oakland where I live. It’s worth the drive into Alameda just to eat here.

Absolutely perfect pub for me and my sweetheart. Wide variety of beer and cocktails, HD tv’s with local sports, diverse crowd and great prices. When we’re looking for a pub to hang out at, this is the place we go. Cheers!

I had the Reuben Sandwich with fries and both the Reuben and fries made my mouth water. They were so delicious! The service was exceptional and you can tell this bar restaurant is community friendly because the employees said«hi» to my friend by first name and made it a point to change a few of the tv channels to the Sharks game because he’s a big fan. I felt really welcomed and happy to share an experience at McGee’s.

I didn’t get to try the food, but came here for drinks and to watch the Warriors game. The place was packed, but we were able to get drinks quickly. The bartenders know how to run a bar and I appreciate that. There is nothing worse than being ignored or forgotten just because the bar is busy. There are a lot of tables and bar seating, but we had to stand since it was so crowded(it was pretty stuffy inside too). If you’re stuck standing there is still a small wall mounted table that you can set your drinks on, along with hooks underneath to hang your jacket or purse. Full bar, lots of TV screens, and super chill crowd makes it a pleasant place to catch a game. Not sure if they have it all the time, but they serve bottles of Not Your Father’s Rootbeer, mmmm!(yes, it’s alcoholic) If you’re looking for a drama free sports bar, McGee’s is worth checking out! *I haven’t tried them yet, but my friends keep recommending the jalapeño hush puppies*

Looking for an Irish Pub? I’m from NY and this reminds me of the pubs I grew up with. After my friend bought counterfeit tickets to a Raiders game, we came in here. After the owner heard our story, he bought us a round. It’s the next best place to watch the game outside the Coliseum.

Definitely love the vibe here. Very small town atmosphere where a lot of the patrons know each other. I was really happy to hear the kitchen has changed hands recently. For a while, the food was pretty inconsistent. Hopefully with new kitchen management we will see an improvement! All in all, this is a great place to come hang out!

Went there to watch the Warriors game. Lots of TV screens; lots of Warriors fans! We only had beer but other people’s food looked good. The fish and chips looked especially tasty. The bartender and servers were very attentive. Great place to just be around home team peeps! Parking: Street; meters. Ambiance: Homey; warm; cozy; casual. Lots of tables and long bar.

Sadly my previous review of 5 stars is no longer valid. The last 2 burgers I’ve had, have been very dry and just unpleasant. The fries have also changed and are no longer thick cut. I’m pretty disappointed because I was really excited about finding a great burger joint. Old review: The burger was on point. Definitely the best burger I’ve had in a while. It was the perfect combination of melted cheese and greasy burger. Please note: they take their flavor profiles very seriously, so don’t attempt to mess with them.

Wow! Saw Shelly in the window and decided to stop for lunch. Michelle is running a delicious grill! I am so happy McGees has quality food and staff back there. I ordered the little gem salad and the goddess dressing is to die for. I ate it and couldn’t help myself. I ordered the fresh fried mozzarella balls. They’re fresh! And they came out so delicious. It was also really great to see Jackson working the floor. He is always on top of the ball. Can’t wait to come back.

I have no idea how this place has such good reviews. Due to the 4 stars, we gave it a shot. I wish we had tried any other place in Alameda. When we walked in, it was semi-busy, nothing over the top for a Saturday but we still waited around for a while to be seated. We didn’t wait to long to order drinks, which was the one good point. The waitress didn’t explain the system about how they don’t take anything but drink orders, but continued to ask if we wanted to open a tab. Well, yeah. That’s how restaurants usually work? She eventually came back with our drinks and before she walked away, I asked her if we could order food. She said that you do that at the counter. Okay, thanks. Then we go to the counter. The woman taking the food orders acted like this is legitimately the worst place in the world and she wanted to be anywhere but here. Actually, all of the staff looked like they hated their entire existence. My boyfriends food came first(before the appetizers) followed by our friends food about 10 minutes later. My boyfriend had almost finished his food by the time mine showed up and the appetizer. My boyfriend ordered fish and chips. The fish was soggy and smelled like the fish wasn’t fresh at all. It was also greasy. I ordered the chicken strips with fries. The chicken was cooked well and the seasoning was tasty but it was soaked in grease. My stomach is definitely pissed off at me right now. However, if you’ve got an iron stomach and are used to foods like this, you’re fine. The food was okay but I’d honestly rather run down to Jack in the Box instead. We asked our waitress for ranch and eventually ended up getting up and getting it ourselves. I’m really shocked at the reviews. The service blew and the food was subpar. There’s so many other places you can go spend your time any money. I don’t plan on ever being back.

Our old school spot… Always a great crowd young and older with no drama! The local spot where most alameda folks tend to end up at for food or a drink and some bites. The food is okay. nothing over the top but hits the spot… There are plenty of screens to watch games on no matter where you sit. Parking is plentiful

Came here on a Friday night and it was pretty dead. Seeing that this place had 4 stars on Unilocal I still thought I’d still give it a shot. Ordered my signature drink(goose and cranberry) and it was pretty cheap. The drink tasted very watered down. There wasn’t a hint of vodka, there was hardly any cran either… it was lots of ice and water? The service was aight, business friendly I’d say. Promptly walked out and went to find another bar.

Love this joint! I been coming here since I was a kid. Long story short there food and drinks is what brings people back. We were fortunate to come here the day of the art and wine festival, and had practically the whole patio to ourselves. while watching the bay to bridge series. anyhow our busboy David was awesome. Totally waiter quality, just an all around great positive individual that this great place is very lucky to have him. I’ll be back for more. Let’s go A’s!!!

ONION. JAM. BURGER. O-J-B I am the guy who does not use definite terms such as always or forever and am totally beyond a shadow of a doubt – put my hand a bible – against commitment. However, the OJB stole my heart and turned me proud. He is my one and only forever; forevaeva. Hands down, barnone, by far, no question the best thing to come in to my life.

After my last few visits to McGee’s I am forced to update my review. The food is superb, and the restaurant by itself would get 5 stars. Everything I have had there has been superb. The pizza, the panini, the club sandwich are all awesome. The fried chicken is really the best I have ever had. Top notch. The problem is the bar just sucks. Dropped by to watch the hockey playoffs. The bartender gave me a hard time about the TVs. Not because the A’s or Giants or Warriors were on, but Bakersfield was playing college baseball. What? Anyway, whilst craning my neck to see my game at the TV across the bar I had to deal with the crowd of knuckleheads next to me. Group of 50 year old ex-high school jock turned roofing contactor dudes were playing dice right next to me. The head guy was yealling like an auctioneer after each roll for the bettors. I really could care less about the gambling, but surprised the managment would let it go on. What was really annoying was them slamming the dice cups down. Again, have fun and do what you want, but I am trying to eat my club sandwich and watch the game and the guy slamming the dice cup on the bar 2 feet from my ear was really pissing me off. This activity would be perfect for the patio, but they had to be front and center at the bar. One of the times it happened the bartender was right in front of me. I gave him a look, and he just shrugged and moved on. Whatever, screw the bar at McGee’s. I have never had a good experience sitting at the bar. Bunch of local cliquish DBs. You can have ‘em. I will come with a group and sit in the dining area, or I will call in and order food to go, but I am all done with the bar. I’ll make the drive to 1400 on Webster.

The French dip and fried is something I have had since I was a little kid. Some idiot changed them. The fries used to be delicious round slices of potato, now they are the same bs fries you can get anywhere. If you are going to change a signature menu item, change the menu. Don’t keep the item and then ruin it.

Not your typical pub… At first glance, it was perplexing which of the 3 doors to open… like a game show! hahaha… gotta open the right door! JK only the middle door is not functional… me thinks. One side is bar; the other side is the sit-down area. They’re connected. You go to the counter on the left side of the establishment to order and pay. There’s a menu and also a chalkboard of specials to choose from. Other than your usual bar fare, there’s also gyro, pizza, and fried chicken. You’ll be given a number to be taken to your table of choice. A waitress does come over to the table, once you’re seated, to take your drink orders. I had my heart set on the paella that I saw in one of the photos from a Unilocal reviewer. Alas, it was no longer available. Sad face. I went with the fish and chips since I’ve been craving it for days but bad for heartburn. It was a pleasant surprise that nothing was overly greasy. Not the fried mushrooms nor the fish. They were scrumptious. Cannot stop eating because the food was that good. There were a few items that was out and not available, like the fried zucchini and some sandwich. The place wasn’t too packed at 7:30 or so. I liked how it wasn’t dark like a cave. They turned up the music later… country. There were TVs everywhere so you won’t miss your sporting events. The parking lot was already full when we got there.
