Go Mules! This is not just a high school. This is a way of life. To study in the Heights is for a privileged few who live in Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, and Olmos Park. I’ve heard that it’s the alma mater of Peter Weller, the dude from Robocop. Wine ‘em, dine ‘em, ’09 em! The Mules kick– they won state football in 2006. But everyone knows it was the class of ’97 that paved the way for that. The water polo team is inspirational, and the swim team is always the best in the district. The tennis team consistently wins state. If you’re an incoming freshman, be sure to see your local friendly senior to purchase an elevator pass. Just watch out for the Lords of Death, the local gang who seems to really be running things. In 2009, AHHS was rated Academically Acceptable. High praise!

Does this HS have very priveleged students? Certainly. However, the majority are from middle to low income like every other school in San Antonio. Alamo Heights is certainly in the top 1% of Public HS in the nation. My child finds the curriculum incredibly challenging but also the staff is incredibly supportive. I think what sets this school apart is it’s Foundation, which enables opportunities above and beyond what is paid by property taxes. Also, the small size results in a pretty tight– knit community of support and many many parent volunteers. Bottom line is that I feel like my kid is getting a private prep school education just for the cost of my property taxes.
