Took over 15 minutes to get our menus and almost an hour for our food! We had to get the silverware ourselves and on top of all that they only take cash!!! Oh but they have a ATM inside.

We just had a delicious lunch at Ef’s. Breakfast all day, and the huevos rancheros were delish-covered with half green chili and half red chili since I couldn’t decide. Fries were really tasty. The waiter said the potatoes are locally grown, then made fresh here. Hamburger was excellent. BLT was just okay, nothing special. Chili cheese fries with green chili was great– messy, smoking hot, and covered in cheese. Waiter was super nice. The outside of the place is deceiving, warm and friendly inside.

Ate here for breakfast and were not disappointed, our server was awesome, the food was great, good prices, we’ll definitely go back! I can’t wait to try anything smothered in chile, our server gave us a few samples of their chile sauces and they were both excellent. Only thing to note is that they don’t accept credit or debit cards so be sure to have cash. Oh, and they deliver… pretty sure we’ll be taking advantage of that in the near future!

Big portions. Good green chili. Service was a little slow but it was packed. Will definitely go again.

While in Alamosa I stopped in at Ef’s Restaurant. It’s a little off the beaten path, But don’t let that stop you from eating at this place. I ordered the huevos rancheros with rice and beans, two eggs over medium, a flour tortilla and the green Chili. For me ordering Huevos rancheros is always a hit or miss in Colorado as I am picky. Ef’s did not disappoint me, it was just a good down home Mexican breakfast. There green chili was pretty dang good! I look forward to trying something else off the menu next time I roll into town. I give Ef’s a three star because I only had a basic meal, But there’s a half star hovering on this post as well. Enjoy!

Food was decent(probably because we were really hungry) but we went in expecting a great green chile cheeseburger… it was less than average as far as green chile cheeseburgers go. We are from New Mexico, so we are used to real green chile and this place served canned sauce that lacked any heat. Fries were under cooked.

Good service but for a girl with high expectations I did not enjoy the food. I just had a simple eggs and toast breakfast.

Tasty! We all enjoyed our breakfast here. It was clean — even the syrup bottles. It was pretty busy for a Wednesday morning and the lone waitress did well at attending to the six seated tables. They have high chairs with working straps and the capability to seat a larger group. I’d highly recommend the deluxe skillet with hash browns, topped with ham, sausage, bacon and chorizo, then an egg, delicious red chili and cheese. A bit spicy, but in the good way. No beans in the chili — perfect! And… it comes with a choice of a side. I got a pancake and ruined any chance of finishing my meal. It was $ 10 and worthy of a food challenge.

We picked this modest place after looking at reviews on Unilocal. It’s close to the main highway, just a few blocks away, so it was a simple choice to make for us since we were heading out of town. The building is certainly not your little charming downtown building. It looks a bit rough actually, but there were several cars so that was reassuring. As we walked in the smell got my tummy churning and mouth watering. Our server greeted us promptly and was very cheery. Shortly after we arrived many locals started coming in, even the sheriff. We ordered the Heuvos Ranchero w/green chili, veggie skillet w/green chili and some coffee. The coffee was decent. Our food arrived and oh my — that green chili! I wish I had just ordered a big olé bowl of that with some tortillas. The food was really good and everything was homemade here. It was a great breakfast! Defiantly worth a stop in!

Delicious, eat here on the regular. Good specials and smother anything you get in green chili — you won’t regret it!

I’m surprised about the 5 star rates. The food was just average. I had a burger, which, while not a frozen patty, was unremarkable. My mom had a grilled cheese sandwich – American cheese, and not well grilled, just kind of heated up. The fries were OK, but nothing special. A friend had tacos and was similarly underwhelmed.

There was nothing wrong with this place. It was okay. We had a large group and they handled our numbers well. They did not have a gluten free menu, which is now one of my qualifiers, since I am gluten free and it seems to me that it should be a standard. The Guac was WAY too salty, but other than that, it was ok.

Ridiculously good breakfast here. Everything is fresh and cooked to perfection. I’ll be back here any time I visit Alamosa. Will have to try lunch next time, too.

My husband & I stopped by on the way home from South Fork, CO and I’m pleased to say we enjoyed the Chili Burger; which is a very unique dish. It is called the«Smothered Chili Burger» and smothered it is. It is served open face, covered in green chili, with shredded lettuce, tomato, and shredded cheese on top. The topping looked like a salad sitting atop this creation. A generous portion of homemade fries w/skins left on sat on the side. The burger itself was good, and the chili had some heat but not too hot, tasted yummy on the fries as well. The bun was basically not very memorable; the chili covered it like gravy and had so much flavor, that the delicate bread flavor did not survive. All & all, it was good. Not sure if i’d get one again — I’d like to try the Guacamole Patty melt. Another trip, perhaps.

Was back in the good olé SLV(San Luis Valley) for Thanksgiving weekend visiting mi familia and just had to stop into EF’s Restaurant to get my fix on a great chile burger. This place, once again did not let me down. If you order a single, the patty is placed between two buns with a mound of fries on the side, and home-made green chile is smothered all over the burger and fries, topped with lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese… Wow, I am salavating just thinking about it!!! I go with the double patty, more meaty goodness to help soak up the green chile. Since I moved to Denver in the mid 90’s, I have been looking for a place that can repeat this burger. The only place that comes close is Chubby’s(8330 Washington Street). All other restaurants(that I have traveled to and eaten at) who have offered the Chile burger on their menu have been a big disappointment.

We were walking around Main Street in Alamosa, looking for a late breakfast. Nothing appealed to us. Went into an antique shop and asked the employee where he would go for breakfast. He recommended Ef’s. It’s a diner, nothing fancy. The service was prompt and very friendly, but never rushed. Our server was a friendly guy who enjoyed chatting. Most importantly, I had the best huevos rancheros I’ve had in a long time. It came with refried beans and a tortilla on the side to soak up the tasty green chile. My husband noted that his hash browns were just right — crisp, not limp. I don’t know when I’ll be back in Alamosa, but I’ll remember those huevos rancheros for a long time.
