My husband buys paint for miniatures here. They have a good assortment of colors and are willing to order in ones that they don’t have. They seem to have a bunch of comic books, games, and gaming supplies, but I’m no game guru. The place is kind of dusty and cluttered, but it adds a certain ‘game shop’ feel. Staff seems to know what they’re talking about and where to find whatever you’re looking for.

I think it’s great that there are 2 really good book and game stores in Albany which are actually fairly close to each other. I like and patronize both. I find the selection of games at Flights of Fantasy is slightly less organized, but that is compensated by what I consider to be a much more interesting variety of games, so I don’t mind combing all the shelves at all. And this is supplemented by the second room with all those books. I don’t spend as much time here(these days I tend to frequent antiquarian booksellers more), but if you are an avid reader of the genres, you must consider buying books here(as opposed to patronizing the big chain store in Colonie Center).

Decent place, but too expensive compared to comparable stores.

In regards to Allana who said she asked the staff member about the review, he said nothing about a gift certificate. I asked him a question about Warhammer 40K and he responded with, «How much do you usually spend at Sephora?» I said,“I don’t know, $ 30? I picked up some makeup for an event. Can you answer my question?” and he laughed at me. If he answered my question then proceeded to ask me about a gift certificate price, okay. But avoiding my question then laughing at me isn’t really what I consider good service nor me making an assumption. It’s disrespect. Note: I have nothing against this place as a business. I’ve just had too many unfortunate experiences to continue going there. I have nothing to say about their products. My review is simply based on customer service.

Books! I could spend hours here looking through the used books. I buy lots of books, from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, I even use Paperback Swap. But there’s just something about searching through the stacks, you never know what you’ll find. A signed copy of a Tim Powers novel, an advance uncorrected Ray Bradbury proof — found both here. They have the most comprehensive section of scifi and fantasy books in town. When I need to have the next book in a series NOW, this is where I go. I don’t know why they have a $$$ mark, the new books are sticker price and the used vary from 3−7ish. They’re a small independent shop, but they do have sales, too. And sometimes author signings/talks. They have a big selection of board and tabletop gaming stuff, and card games like Magic. It’s true, most days there’s a lot of teenagers at a bunch of tables playing games and talking trash to each other, but don’t be afraid to ask them to move over if you need to get by them. I’d rather see then hanging out here with books and card games and the store cats than trolling around the mall. P. S. I asked about the mediocre review on here, and the guy working said he was the one who asked about the makeup. He just wanted to know what a good amount for a gift certificate was. People need to chill out and not assume so much. I’m a girl and I’ve never had a problem here. Most people are really nice, if you ask for help or suggestions you’ll definitely get them.

This is a strange and wonderful store. I look for used bookstores whenever I travel and if said stores also sell RPGs… well, I’ll be there come hell or high water. Ironically, there’s a major storm brewing as I type this. Anywho, I don’t like to be bothered when I browse for books. Guess what? Nobody bothered me. The local Pathfinder society was in house taking up lots of room, making it impossible to actually browse some shelves. I had to excuse myself past a few tables to get where I was going. The owner said Sundays are better for what I was doing – no gamers at tables. Glad to see the place being used for its purpose, anyway. The used book selection wasn’t fantastic though there were some very OP titles on the shelf. Far more new books than used. The back room is a treasure trove of books that were new sometime in the last 20 years. There’s $#!+ back there that would have sold out anywhere else. Don’t ask me how this happened, I don’t care. Now, to be fair, this store is more about the games than the used sci-fi /fantasy books. I’m not really in the market for games atm because I still play 3.5 and have most of what I need. Still, there were innumerable game books and cards for sale, and everything you could need to play D&D, Pathfinder, Warhammer, MTG, etc. It’s über-nerd heaven. If I lived in Albany, I would be fighting for a place at one of their Saturday afternoon tables. And I would get one because I fight dirty, nerds, dur-tee! I feel for the only other reviewer because I’ve seen it before. There aren’t enough lady-gamers out there and to ostracize even one should – imho – be reason enough to string you up by the &@!!$. No excuses. The prices are all full market for the«new» stuff and about half market for used, but the selection of OP stuff may be higher depending on demand. PKD paperbacks might run $ 8 or higher, which is the mark of an informed owner and a good thing.
