First thing that comes to mind when my coworkers say they’re ordering from Jonathans? Yuck. The wings, while they have a good mild flavor, are soo dry and crusty. I think they leave them in the fryer way too long, and they’re not even good, plump, quality wings. The pizza isn’t that great either. It does taste better than it looks, I’ll give them that, but the quality of the toppings is terrible and the cheese grosses me out. They use a lot of dough and the crust has no taste at all. This is pizza that might not even appeal to me when I’m drunk.

I’ve been to Jonathan’s several times for lunch, and the food isn’t bad, but there’s always something disappoiting. They don’t seem to scrape their ovens, so the pizza always has burnt chunks of food and char dust coating the bottom of the slices. The portions are extremely small – the hot sub special is about 4″ long. They’re generally not that friendly and wait times can be long due to low staff. I’ve tried really hard to like this place and assumed these were forgivable problems, but it’s just been disappointment after disappointment.

Okay so. What can I say about my experiences involving Jonathons? The food is made decent they’re good to their regulars and the service can be slow due to their lack of labor around the restaurant. I’d stop by this place mostly due to the fact they have a bar I could get a drink on my break from work. On top of that. Their pizza isn’t mostly just dough like Crapienzas, they don’t skip on the sauce and its seasoned a little better. Since there’s not a lot of competition in terms of places you can walk in and get a slice, a thing of blue cheese and beer from the bar real quick. Safely assume Jonathons will do ya right.

Stay away from this place — even if you haven’t eaten in a week. $ 13 for a small pizza that was greasy, slimy, and soggy. People who work there are also rude and the overall service is terrible. See picture.

Jonathan’s is the real thing — incredible NYC pizza! The owners are real Italians with NYC roots and they have been making pizza in Albany forever. Thin crust, real cheese. It’s a fast, incredible slice that’s not expensive. It’s obvious by the daily line up of customers that they are doing it right. A local gem not to be missed.

There really is nothing special here. It’s the epitome of an overused couch from your aunt’s uncle reminiscent of the heydays of bands such as Bön Jovi. If you want a slice of pizza or a sandwich for lunch, you can do far worse(or better, just a few blocks away). The workers look ultra-depressed and as such give off a vibe that also makes me depressed as well and/or feel pity for their woes. The décor is hole-in-the-wall unkempt delight-fulness. The only modern thing I can recognize is a large-screen TV at the bar. This shabby spot is trashy yet a decent place for what it is. Good for a lunch and not much else, food-wise. Or if you’ve been a bar-hound since 1983, drinks-wise. Skip out on that AA meeting and look to get poopface drunk, while blaming the government for your everyday failure to win the lottery over the last 39 years, and enjoy some pizza while you’re at it. Look no further than Jonathan’s Pizza for that sole purpose. If you’re missing your sharona, she is hiding here and has been haunting this place for the last 3 decades(hence why the workers are so depressed). Hooray for nostalgia!

This place made me sick am served thawed out cold wings. Pizza was ok but there are better places all around. Also, they stood around and stared at me whwn i was ready to order. They should stick with night life.

Philly cheese steak with American cheese? Didn’t ask for it but it’s what I got. Never seen that before. Then I took my first bite. Delicious! The bread was flaky and fresh. The steak was marinated, chopped adequately and surprisingly tender. My only«beef» was that I had to pay extra for mushrooms. Huh? As mentioned in other reviews, the décor and feel is quintessential upstate-NY, post rustbelt 70’s kitsch, to wit 40+ y/o wood paneling, flat screen tvs emitting intermittent pictures of pizzas and attorney ads, a curious assembly of klieg lights mounted seemingly randomly on the ceiling, and a haphazardly taped flyer on the main door recommending apple martinis. Let’s just say the clientele didn’t strike me as the martini-sipping variety, but to say it feels unsafe inside is a bit ungenerous. Date spot? No. Lunch to-go or with friend? Definitely recommend.

Dropped in for quick lunch. Nice Italian sub, reasonable price.

Ordered take out from here once. The place looks like a little local take out pizza place that wants to become a neighborhood hang out spot judging it by the comfy couches and the book nook up front. I don’t know if that is gonna happen, but I will say I thought the food was decent. I ordered the chicken parm, it was good, I’ve had better and worse. The salad was good, but c’mon folks, it’s a salad. I wish I had more data to judge this place by because sadly, it’s probably gonna be the only time I check it out since I’m an out of towner.

i am adding a star. they have given the joint a makeover. the bar is larger and new and all shiny wood and mirrors and tvs(if you care about watching the games) they have a good selection of booze from what i noticed while i was sitting on a comfy bench waiting for my yummy sub. the whole layout of the place was better, cleaner, more appealing and the atmosphere in general was much much nicer. i would even consider coming back for a calzone and staying in to eat with kenz. kudos guys.

Really good pizza, pasta fagioli, and other hearty Italian staples in an underrated little hole in the wall on Pearl St. Found this place by accident when a friend and I were waiting to see a show at the Palace, and I’ve liked it very much ever since! The service is fast and fairly friendly, the place itself is clean, but nothing fancy, and the food is tasty and delicious. If you’re looking for a cheap place for good food in this area, I’d have to highly recommend Jonathan’s! Good stuff!

Scary. But delicious! I don’t quite know what to make of this place. Inside it has a bar tucked away in a corner. There was a man sitting at the bar, hovering over a beer, and it looks like he had never ever left. So I know the bar isn’t just for decoration. It also appeared that there were disco lights, for turning the pizza joint into a night spot. This seems weird on a lot of levels. I dunno anything about that. I also don’t know anything about the varied menu that strays beyond pizza, and goes into hot dogs, etc. Frankly it made me nervous about the pizza. Especially since the pizza looked like it had been sitting out for a while. So I decided to order a cheese calzone(with tomato sauce on the side). My family ordered the pizza. Which was good. I was able to nibble on their food while waiting for my calzone for what seemed like an eternity. But when my cheese calzone came out it was simply delicious. Oddly the tomato sauce was full of meat, but I didn’t terribly mind, it too was quite good. Gotta go back to this place once I get a better sense of the regional pizza offerings. Solid place.
