We have been going here for about a year, we used to go to hurleys from 1983 – 1990 and just recently came back to the area and found mcgrearys .We have had very good wings there in the past this time they were soggy after we asked for extra crispy We sent them back 3 times each time they came back worse, coming back at the end burnt due to deep frying them with sauce(this was an order of 30) and inedible The one waitress trying to be helpful while the other being sarcastic with her«have a nice day» We came home and called the owner who suggested we dont return. I feel you should stand by your product and the customer is right

Nice varied beer selection. Definitely has a local crowd(I’m from out of town), but there’s nothing wrong with that. Had the jerk chicken sandwich with sweet potatoes fries. Was pretty good for a bar but nothing to rave about.

I went here several times when I lived in the area. I don’t recall ever eating here, but stopped by with others for drinks — which they have a good selection of. It’s a neat spot, and everytime I was here, it had a good mix of people. I would recommend.

Irish pub, historic, downtown, trivia night, solid Unilocal reviews. I went into McGeary’s thinking I’d love it, but walked away feeling meh. It has a nice dive bar atmosphere, but our group was seated in the far back behind a wall. There was ample seating, but maybe they were trying to hide us. ;-) I ordered a burger with onions, peppers and munster cheese. The burger had great cheese coverage, but it couldn’t hide the plain bun and unseasoned burger patty. The meal came with fries and the option to choose steak, string or sweet potato. The variety was a nice touch. Others at my table ordered the reuben and jerk chicken and had a similar take — it was all OK but nothing was good. I’ll come back in the future, but just for drinks and trivia.

the food was okay. I had the clam chowder and it needed salt. what did not need salt were the chicken fists. They were a little overdone which made them very tough and way too crunchy. Quite a quirky crowd during happy hour for the band. So I’m not quite sure what the actual clientele usually is here. Odd mix I think of college students and old women trying to dress young, and some random guys in Hawaiian shirts. Doesn’t seem like an after work place

My favorite place for food and drinks ever! I have always heard great things about McGeary’s, but unfortunately I have never been until recently. Food is amazing, try the burgers or wings. A-MAZ-ING. Beers on draft are always fresh and they have a wide variety. Staff are always accommodating and friendly. Trust me, you’ve gotta try the truffle burger.

Haven’t been there in a while to sit down eat. Restaurant is small, large bar area that’s almost always lively with a crowd of 9 – 5 commuters and/or workers of the State past 5PM on any weekday. It can be pretty shotty on the weekends with most of the business uptown, but still a nice bar nonetheless. Their Irish Nachos leave a little to be desired, but let’s talk about their 2013 cap city award winning wings. More specifically. Can I get a drum roll please. Chipotle BBQ Bacon Wings — If you like spicy food and anything coated with bacon. Just try these wings. Trust. The other flavors are pretty generic other than that one. X hot is just hot with pepper flakes, which isn’t too creative of a twist on «X» for me. But there it is. On the flipside. As one who cares about how girthy of a chicken wing I’m about to ingest(paying nearly a dollar a wing at most reputable pubs), you can rest e z knowing McGearys doesn’t skimp on size.

People tend to label this place a dive bar, which I think is a little unfair. Yes, it’s fairly old, but the food is definitely a tick or three above standard freezer-to-fryer stuff. Good beer selection, and the wings were great. Crispy with tasty sauces. Service has always been reasonably fast, even when the place is busy. The place has zero dedicated parking, and street space near it can be very difficult to find on friday/saturday evenings when a show is on at the Palace. Plus, they have a Addams Family pinball machine, which is awesome.

Mediocre pub food with a decent beer selection and terrible parking. Note: on nights when there are shows at the Palace, there is a VERY limited menu.

In Albany for a night and Unilocal reviews and proximity to hotel made this the go to place. Thought it looked like a dive and had I not read the reviews I would have by-passed. Turned out to be a pretty decent place. Good wings and burgers. Kids liked it as well. Simple, easy, reasonable. Would definitely go back if in town again.

My boyfriend and I went to McGeary’s last night for the first time. Walking up to the door step, I was sort of anticipating the smell of stale beer when we entered as the place looked very much like a pub. Boy, was I surprised!!! It smelled wonderful! It was like walking into somebody’s home while mom is cooking in the kitchen! We were greeted right away by a very friendly waitress who seated us at a very charming table in the back. The atmosphere was very nice! We ordered burgers and WOW!!! They were just great!!! I had the«Big Ass Burger» which was cooked to perfection and seasoned deliciously. Hands down, the best burger in Albany!!!

Mold on my sandwich. Asked for wheat got moldy rye. Not sure how the cook missed it. Very moldy bread, can’t imagine who else had it. Server offered to take the moldy sandwich off my bill. Thanks.

For the Bills games it’s quite festive. Wings are done right. Rarely in downtown Albany so I probably wouldn’t venture here unless I was into one of the aforementioned reasons.

This is a nice place for a few drinks and some food. I came here with my fiancée a few weeks ago and we really liked it. We got a few beers(very good) and enjoyed the spinach and artichoke dip. We both got salads(steak and buffalo chicken) and they were filling and really quite good. It’s a nice Irish pub overall and I’d come back sometime.

I must admit that I like getting hit in the face… on seldom occasions only. Fortunately, I get hit in the face with intense taste every time I come here, by the delicious«Chicken Fists»(crunchy boneless chicken accompanied with sauce of choice) they serve. My taste buds happily get hit in the face with all the other various dishes they offer as well. When I inhabit McGeary’s, I also make sure to get hammered in my disorderly, inebriated(but happy) face with liquor as well. Their bar has all kinds of stuff to get impaired with. The waitresses are very accommodating as long as I don’t let my drunken stupor loose and indubitably piss them off. Speaking of piss(Alert: bad pun and segue commencing), the bathroom at McGeary’s contains a Victorian era urinal trough. To think that perhaps on one cold and melancholy night in 1888, Grover Cleveland himself may have wizzed there(with perhaps Benjamin Harrison wizzing right next to him). Come touch a piece of Upstate New York history! If you’re in the downtown Albany area, this is pretty much the best bar there. Pass trough here when urine town and you will enjoy it.

If I’m ever here in town again I’m coming back. The bacon BBQ burger was like a velvety lullaby. It was about as big as my goldendoodle’s head and cooked perfectly. The bun my delicious burger was rested on was supple… so supple. It was close to fresh croissant supple. Buttered and grilled… Can’t say enough good things about the staff. I don’t know who these two girls are tending bar but they are a couple of gems!

I met a friend here for lunch about a month ago and was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the food was! The front is very much the pub part, with what appeared to be a few regulars drinking and being kind of loud and noisy considering this was a Saturday afternoon … But sit toward the back for a good meal, the tables are gorgeous with glass tiling. I ordered a crab cake sandwich with wasabie sauce and it was delicious. We had cheese sticks with raspberry sauce as an appetizer and it was great. It was a bit drafty when we went, so bring layers if it’s cold out! Cost was about average.
