I used to love to visit, and discover new spices to prepare at home. The butcher side, and the Afghan bread was a must in my household. I stopped by today after the gym. The butcher. young man with black hair, had everyone else’s meat expedited except mine. My order was simple compared to the others with whole goats etc I spoke out with a genuine concern, not loudly either, about how my order was taking so long, since others behind me paid already. He simply told me that he was sorry sarcastically. Then with a tyrant attitude asked me if I still wanted the food, if not I could leave. He said all of that in front of others that happened to be males. He wanted to humiliate me, since I asked about my meat order status. I did not want to make a scene. I politely reminded him that females are not second class citizens, and we have the power of social media. The owner Rafi did nothing. After 5 years of supporting his business. I guess the others that only come for the holiday to buy in bulk are most important than the regulars. I even recommended his business to others in my community. Very disappointed!

DONOTCATERFROMHERE! I ordered from here for a party I was holding. I ordered qabli palow, shula ghosht, shami kabob, chicken kabob, and koofta korma. The qabli palow was super oily and the meat was burnt. The shami kabob was super dry. The shula ghosht did not have any color or flavor, just looked like a blob. I heard it from every guest how the food was of low quality. It would have been one thing to hear it from just one or two guests, but when you hear it over and over again, you know that there was something wrong with the food. I called Rafi, the person who took the order and I believe a part-owner, to let him know how disappointed I was with the order, but instead of trying to do something to ensure customer satisfaction, he goes off on a tirade and starts yelling. This was very surprising because as an Afghan I know the custom of politeness that normally ensues among Afghan patrons and business owners. I merely wanted to tell him that his food lacked the quality that he spoke so highly of when I placed my initial order. I understand this place may have a good grocery market, and I can’t attest to that as I have not tried their groceries, but catering is certainly not their forte. They should not be in the catering business if they plan on making horrible food. As well, they should learn some business acumen as to how to speak/deal with their customers and learn to take criticism.

Huge selection of international groceries, housewares, pastries and prepared food. Great Iranian restaurant tucked in the back with chef who takes a lot of pride in his dishes and really wants to please customers. Owner is super nice and helpful; when he didn’t have the rice I was looking for he offered to let me try a comparable brand and gave me a taste of a dish I am trying to learn to make. I can’t imagine anyone going in here and not leaving with something delicious.

The market seems pretty standard for what it is, I wasn’t there to shop. I tried the deli style restaurant in the back, and while the service was amazing(lots of free samples), I didn’t enjoy the food. I’m vegan, full disclosure, and gluten intolerant, but I have had delicious Afghani food before so I was excited. I ordered the eggplant without yogurt over rice and was given eggplant with yogurt and completely mixed with some kind of dairy. My stomach’s upset since I tried to eat it so the food wouldn’t go to waste, and I feel guilty for not being able to finish my food. The man running the restaurant area was really kind and brought out another vegetable dish, but it was made with egg – I’d told him repeatedly that I only eat vegetables, and nothing from animals. All that said, my boyfriend, an omnivore with no food restrictions, ordered some meat and rice thing that he said was okay, but not stellar. My dad, also an omnivore, tried to branch out passed his standard American fair and was obviously disappointed. Hopefully, he won’t judge all new experiences by the few mediocre ones.

The market is definitely has the best selection in the area I have been to. It easily has double/triple the space of the other similar shops in the area. 5 stars for the market and grocery part. Café in the back has good food– about par for the area. I recently went for lunch, and sat for a while catching up with an old friend. When seated there for about an hour or so, the proprietor brought out soup and chai for my group as well as another group seated at the limited tables back by the café. That sort of hospitality is rare and was greatly appreciated. As other reviews have said, the bread would have been better warm. Overall, you can find better prepared food in the area, but you definitely cannot find it with the market as well. If I need to get shopping done, I definitely will return to the café for lunch as well.

Keep in mind that this is not a restaurant, it is a market, first & foremost. That being said, I was excited to try the restaurant food. The lamb kabob and rice is delicious! Perfectly cooked and a little spicy. I did not care for the spinach or salad sides. The bread would have been better warm and the sambusas were not what they should have been. Also, the food was missing the key Afghani sauces that I love so much. As a market, definitely 4 stars. All the typical Middle Eastern favorites are sold here and it is one of the bigger Middle Eastern markets I have been to. Staff is extremely friendly.

You can’t judge based on looking at this place, but the food here is very delicious. In the back, there is a kitchen area with seating. The menu is simple. I suggest trying out the chicken kabob. It’s moist and tender. Be patient, the service is not to the caliber of a full time restaurant staff, yet the food is worth the wait. You can enjoy your food in a quiet and peaceful setting. This place is a gem.
