The food was really good. The service was good, and the owner was awesome. I would definitely come back for the Samosas and eat like 12 of them!

Having seen this place several times recently I knew I had to try it and I wasn’t disappointed. The Tandoori Chicken was a great twist on an old favorite and garlic naan was absolutely delicious, light and fluffy bread with fresh aromatic garlic. And our waiter was fun and gracious. Never had an empty water glass and the house reccommendations were spot on. Prices were reasonable and the food was devine.

Loyal customer for over a decade. We eat in once or twice a month and take out about once a week. Love, love, love everything on the menu; their range from super spicy to mild satisfies everyone in my family. I’d give them 10 stars if I could!

Began with fresh made tasty garlic naan(next time I’ll ask for more garlic), mango lasso was delicious. I chose the coconut curry cod and enjoyed it very much. The lil salad it came with had some unfamiliar spices on it. I will return to try other items.

Vindaloo, a spicy dish, barely had any spice/heat and the Jalfrezi – nothing to rave about. Worst than the blah food was the service. Our waiter badgered us to order appetizers, was annoyed that we didn’t want to order drinks, took our small plates away and half joked that we didn’t deserve them because the plates were for appetizers. We informed him the Vindaloo was not spicy, but he was more concerned whether we wanted more nan or rice. I’m so glad we didn’t order more than a main course as the food was mediocre. Tip: Good quality and flavorful food will sell itself.

Best Indian in the area. Good deal for lunch and everything was delicious. Came here right before they closed for lunch and they served us anyway.

I’ll start by saying that I am not super fond of curry so that is why my rating is lower than it would be if I liked it. I came with a group, we got seated immediately and everyone was very nice. The owner Or manager talked to us himself and was very nice and accommodating. The food was good, chicken wings had a nice flavor and were cooked well. I ordered the chicken curry and it was really good, I mostly just used the sauce on my rice because I really enjoyed the flavor. I would highly suggest the butter chicken, my friend had it and the sauce was divine.

I always loved Indian food and never left the place unhappy but today I did. I had chicken curry but it was not even curry. It felt like there were no spices at all, tasted bland. First of all we found a nice table outside in the corner and then some guy came and changed our table and that’s WEIRD!!! He put us at a table with the sun directly in our eyes. We wanted to stay to give the place a shot even though they changed our table but we regret it now. I wish we had gone next door to a Mexican place and enjoy some margaritas. The service was awful. No one came by our table to ask how the food was. This place is not worth the money for Indian food. Never going back again!

Love it. My new favorite Indian place that doesn’t require driving to Fairfax. Every time I’ve tried to go here there was a really long wait, but on a nice day when everyone wanted to go to Los Tios, this place was wide open. The Onion Kulcha, Samosa, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Vegetable Biryani were very good. I definitely will be back, especially for takeout. Service was great, it didn’t take a long time to get the food or the check. I like that it isn’t full of kids like other places in Del Ray.

I’ve been going to this place since before the relocation, at least 10 years. Quality is still AMAZING! Their naan is fresh, their butter chicken is moist and zesty and their tikka masala is HEAVEN! LOVEIT!

It was a short wait on a Friday night. Sat down at the same time as another couple and ordered around the same time as well(different staff waited on us). They had their food came out way faster and ours only got served easily 25 – 30 minutes later as they were done and paying up! Chicken kadai was great but the butter chicken, eggplant and saag paneer was pretty standard. Don’t think we will be going back anytime soon.

Like a lot of people, I don’t ask much of my Indian restaurants. After lamenting the loss of our old favorite, Tandoori Nights, my wife and I began getting our take out from a place near Crystal City, and then we heard about Bombay Curry Company in Del Ray. Honestly, we love this place. For what I enjoy(butter chicken, naan, raita, samosas, etc) it is fantastic. The flavor a are rich and savory, the chicken is always tender and delicious. But let me talk about the samosas. I can’t believe how good these things are, especially when you drizzle a little of their spicy green sauce(I’m sure it’s some sort of chutney, but I’m no expert). Now that I have established how well they do on my old standards, it might be time to venture into things like chicken vindaloo, which I am very much looking forward to. Do yourself a favor and forget Evening Star in Del Ray and give this place a try! It’s right next to another Del Ray favorite, Los Tios… Jaldee milengae!

So I think I like this place. The waiter was crazy. He told me I couldn’t order something. I kinda liked that he was so bold(I’m glad I listened). The food was good! The lentils were so creamy and delicious. I’m picky about my chicken quality, so I would’ve liked less tendons and fat in my chicken curry, but I don’t know — maybe I’m picky. Had a good laugh with the busboy because my finger was bleeding and I meant to ask for more napkins but instead asked for more fingers. We were like best friends after that. I like this place! It’s a cute little boutique restaurant. I would order something different next time, however.

I ordered curry chicken, side of nan and the dhahi bhalla to go. The curry was okay as was the nan. I admit I expected it to be better though. The dhahi bhalla starter was flavorless and the presentation altogether was lacking. For a to go order I would expect to get napkins and plastic utensils but there wasn’t any. The food was put in styrofoam and most of what I had had a lot of sauce which of course spilled in the bag. They should put their food into black plastic bowls with secured lids(like with Chinese take outs) instead so the sauces don’t spill and it looks better. I’m new to the area and was hoping to find a good Indian restaurant to get my takeout so this was disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend it or go back. Staff was friendly, atmosphere was nice when I went in to pick up. Just the food needs work.

Wonderful little Indian restaurant in the heart of Del Ray! My boyfriend and I came here on a Tuesday night to grab some dinner. When we walked in, the place was packed and we had to wait a couple of minutes for a table. For the duration of our meal, at least 8 more people walked in either to get a table or order carryout. So poppin’ even on a Tuesday night! I ordered butter chicken with a side of dal makhani(black lentils). Both the chicken and the dal makhani were fantastic. Really buttery and creamy. We also ordered samosas and garlic naan. The samosas are so, so good. All the food I had was very tasty and reasonably priced. I’m so glad to have found another quality Indian restaurant that isn’t too far away from home. Highly recommend! Additionally, the service here is wonderful. Everyone is super polite, friendly, and helpful. If you’re in the area and in search of some great Indian cuisine, stop on by.

Finally got around to trying this place. Took me forever. It’s small. Saturday evening and It was not crowded at 630pm. Service: good. Waiting time for food was very reasonable. Food: Delicious. My experience with Indian food is limited because many of the flavors are alien to me. So I have to choose carefully and let the waiter guide me. Appetizer: a puffed rice dish. It surprised me. It was a salad. Just a little heat and a little sweet and crunchy. And really pleasant! Dinner: I had curry lamb and friend had lamb vindaloo. Both very flavorful but I stayed clear of the vindaloo because of the heat in the dish. You are not overwhelmed with choices on this menu. I like that especially since it will make it easier for me to explore other dishes without being overwhelmed. Menus the size of an encyclopedia drive me nuts. Hopefully with a small menu, they do what they do well. I am going to drag a friend of mine to try the food after Christmas.

WELOVEBOMBAYCURRYCOMPANY!!! Tough day at work? Bombay. Unexpected friends over for dinner? Bombay. Celebrating the fact that it’s Friday? BOMBAY! Our go-to order is pretty simple — samosa, butter chicken, and vegetable biryani. Saag paneer and garlic naan are also faves. All their curries are fabulous, though — great cuts of juicy meat that have been simmered for hours in richly flavored curries. We usually ask for extra brown and green sauces. The managers and servers are warm and welcoming. They once messed up an order and invited us in to dine for free the next time, which speaks to the amount of care and love they put into making your experience a good one. They had to close for few years, when their former building was renovated.(We call that period The Dark Times.) The new Bombay is in a super-tiny space without much fabric, so the noise level can get a bit intense, if that’s the sort of thing that bothers you.(I don’t mind but my husband does, so we get carryout most of the time.) They now have some seats outside, it’s a lovely spot to enjoy great food, friends and the steady parade of kids and dogs that makes Del Ray such a homey, friendly neighborhood. Thank goodness Bombay Curry and their wonderful staff are back. A true neighborhood gem.

Finally a decent Indian place in Arlington/Alexandria. Food and service are both great. Not as many choices as I usually see on other Indian restaurant’s menus but what they have is enough and tastes good. I liked their Bhel puri as well. Do not go for tawa roti as it could become very hard.

My experience was less than ideal here. I came here Friday night Oct. 9th with my mom and brother. It was supposed to be a birthday dinner for me, but my mom was nice enough to not count it, because I just did not enjoy myself. I was already having a bad day, and my experience here was the unsatisfying cherry on top. I’m sure it’s a lot better when it’s not as packed, because it’s a very tiny space with very good acoustics. It was quite loud. I could barely hear my brother across the table.(I never have trouble hearing my mom, she has no indoor There are only 2 vegetarian entrée options, and one of them consists of a choice of 6 sides. They have more veggie sides. I had the Vegetarian Thali, and it was pretty good, but not as good as I’ve had before. This is considering the fact that food always tastes betted when you’re starving, which I was when I came in, plus it built up over the 45MINUTES we had to wait to get the food. None of the dessert choices(between the 3) struck my fancy. Their hot tea is plain low quality black tea, dust and fannings in a paper tea bag. That just a personal peeve, I work at a tea place. Good things: I think it was the owner that came over and talked to us. He was really nice. Hostess was cute. All employees were nice people. Décor is pretty. The people there seemed to be enjoying themselves. Bathroom was clean. Mom got a nice bottle of wine which was apparently a really good price.

I have in the past bemoaned the relative lack of Indian food in Alexandria. Indeed, this still may be true of the Metro-accessible Old Town area, but if you’re willing to drive to Del Ray, you’ll find a quaint small-town vibe with a number of appealing restaurants, including this perfectly nice Indian place. What I got was very simple, a samosa and chickpeas. These are the sort of thing that is hard to screw up; a samosa is pretty much either good or great. This one was great. What a wonderful and distinctive mix of spices. As to the chole, they asked me to make sure I understood it was hot, to which I said yes. And damn if those weren’t some spicy chickpeas, a small portion but some of the best chickpeas I’ve had in a while, accompanied by a small salad. They nailed the basics. They offer a lunch menu rather than a buffet with low priced entrees and single portion appetizers and breads, all of which I appreciate. The only thing that miffed me a bit, really, was the selection on that menu. They do get the basic options right, but it seemed like that’s all they really had; it wasn’t as extensive a menu as I might have hoped. But sign me up for some more of that kadai chole any time.

We’ve been looking for a good indian food place in Alexandria since we moved here(more than three years ago). I’m so happy Bombay Curry Company is open since it totally fits the bill. The paneer tikka is particularly good and everything else we’ve tried is really good too.

One of our favorite, favorite restaurants. We waited(it seemed) forever for the restaurant to re-open in its new location but it was well worth the wait. The food is so good and the service is excellent. My favorites are the butter chicken, yellow, fish curry, and the chicken tandoori wings as an appetizer. The chicken tandoori is so moist and full of flavor. The butter chicken is not too spicy and delicious. My husband loves the lamb biryani and any of their lamb dishes. Besides the good food, the people really make this restaurant. They are very welcoming and so friendly. It is a relatively small restaurant but we never have a problem getting a table especially coming on the earlier side.

Food– Great Indian food. Great place. I don’t generally give 5 star ratings, but this place deserves it. The food was amazing. They have a lot of options from vegies, to chicken, to seafood, to goat curries. Their Chicken Handi is the the most recommended dish– mind you this is VERYSPICY and when i even requested the server to make it less spicy for me, he said that this is their signature dish and he cannot alter the spiciness level, it was indeed very spicy but tasted equally good. If you cannot handle spicy food DONOT order this :-) We also ordered their chicken tikka masala, fish curry {i absouletly loved their fish curry, i haven’t had a fish curry like this ever, its a yellow coconut curry, you have to order this}, chicken tandoori, and malai kabobs. Everything was 5 star. Absolutely great food. Price– It’s not super expensive. The price is around $ 10-$ 14 which is the average price around here. It’s definitely worth for the quality of food. Ambience/restaurant style– The place is very clean, a little small as in there are may be 10 tables, but its very well lit, and the waiters are very friendly too. OVERALL– A GREATRESTAURANT– A MUSTVISIT. GREATFOOD.

I ordered to go, had been looking forward to trying this place for a little while. I don’t eat a lot of Indian food so I can’t vouch for its authenticity. I can say that it certainly tasted like the real deal to me! Ordered the chicken kedai with side of roti. Loved it! Was delicious. Super spicy! I love spicy food, I’m from Cajun country and enjoy it. so I can tell you that this dish made my nose run and my lips burn, which is good. If you don’t like spicy, stay away. Roti was very large. I’ll definitely go back! Small and quiet, looks like about 12 – 15 tables inside. Hope they stick around. Del ray needs some variety.

As a recently migrated Indian and also as some who cooks Indian cuisine quite regularly, I am really disappointed in my takeout meal. I ordered the veg curry and chicken jalfrezi along with onion kulcha and plain naan. The ordering process was easy and the owner really polite but their online website menu does not match their new menu availability. I also asked my entrees to be spicy, which the owner confirmed as a part of the order. However, the food we just ate was neither tasty nor spicy. The veg curry had roughly chopped chunks of all kinds of vegetables, no spice and a runny gravy that held no taste. Thankfully the onion kulcha came with a side of Daal Makhani which was tad better, but overall my husband had a really unsatisfactory meal to wrap up the week. The chicken jalfrezi had big strips of chicken that did not appear marinated(not sure if any Indian meat dish is prepped without marinade). And was NOTSPICY at all. Like zero spice. If you are into non spicy Indian food with little flavor, this place may be for you. One star for the nice and friendly service but talking off 4 stars for a really disappointing meal. You can do better Del Ray!

Alas! The elusive local and delicious Indian restaurant! I tell you, with great sadness, that this… is not it. Local, yes. Delicious? Somewhat. Having recently moved from the Ballston area where I frequented Masala Express, I was quite enthused to sample the sumptuous offerings of Del Ray, having high expectations given the plethora of high quality eateries in the general vicinity. Alas! The takeout did not satisfy! For myself, Rogan Josh, an admittedly difficult dish for any restaurant… particularly for my discerning palate! In the land of the bland, the one-eyed man eats bland food. And bland it was! Alas! My lovely wife, who enjoyed the Nilgiri Korma(sp?)…this, I must admit, was quite delicious! I would order this again, if not for the accruements. Alas! Raita… runny and bereft of flavor! Alas! Mint chutney in a pathetically tiny serving size! Alas! Thus I must give a less than spectacular Unilocal rating… a mere… A-OK. To greener pastures and tastier chutneys. Alas!

This place is fantastic. Trust me on my review, I’m Indian, my parents make the best Indian food, and I’ve traveled that country and many others to try the cuisine. To start, the chicken Kadai is one of the top ten dishes in the DC metro area. Ginger, garlic, pepper, a curry flavor that isn’t the powdered type. It’s fiery, thick. It tastes amazing at the restaurant, and carries out well. Their chickpeas are solid, B+/A-, I like them a lot, they are more of the Indian punjabi style rather than Pakistan punjabi style that I like(Ravi Kabob is the local standard). Still flavorful and worth ordering. Lamb vindaloo is top notch, with the acidity of the vinegar mixed with the fire of the chili making a formidable version of this Goan dish. Their apps are good, bhelpuri and papri chaat is similar to the street on CG road or Juhu beach. It’s a curry house, foremost, so order those. Their veg dishes are pretty good, as good as any in the area, but not the stars of the show. And to those that would give a one star to a place without eating food there … That’s why Unilocal is a horrible place filled with mean people. He even answered you in a heartfelt way. Give the place a chance. It’s high level.

On a whim we went here as we heard it is re-opened(after remodeling?) and we were delighted with the tasty aromatic dishes(saag gosht, samozas, vindaloo at 7 on spicy scale = very hot, and a chickpea yoghurt appetizer, with plain naan bread). Also had a glass of Virginia Reisling and they topped up our iced water all the time. Service was friendly but there was a bit of delay between taking our orders and bringing food out but nothing too dreadful and the wait was worth it. Seems like a family run business. We were there at 6pm on a Friday evening and by the time we left, about 7pm, there was a line on the sidewalk outside to get in! Place is wheelchair accessible including the 2 unisex bathrooms.
