I first discovered HazelSnooks when my friend from NYC was visiting and really wanted some peanut butter fudge. We found this shop online, which looked promising, but ended up being a dud. First off, it lacks that«oomphh» which a candy store needs. The woman who sold us our fudge was extremely rude and acted as if we were bothering her by simply being in the shop. Maybe she was hungover or having a really bad day, but her attitude was just wrong. The fudge was less than mediocre. It was hard, crumbly, grainy, and lacked that deep, rich flavor that fudge is known for. It’s expensive as well. They did have a good selection of flavors, as well as fudge that is diabetic friendly, but definately do a taste test before you purchase. My friend bought ¼ lb of the peanut butter and it tasted awful. One day after she purchased the fudge, it was hard as a rock and definately not edible, unless it had been melted down into peanut butter soup, ewww. The upside is that they sell other candy, like chocolate covered pretzels, which pretty much taste the same as the store bought brands, but some are drizzled with white chocolate or dipped in chopped nuts or sprinkles. They carry your basics as well, like gummy worms, clusters, and chocolate bark. They also sell other things, like mixing bowls and packages of gourmet brownie mix and nuts. I bought a jar of Stonewall Kitchen’s lemon curd. They sell the lemon cake mix as well. My final take: not impressed. I’ve been to ‘real’ candy stores which are stocked full of candy like something you’d see out of Willy Wonka(the original, screw that new crap) and HazelSnooks failed to deliver the magic. The store itself is cute, with a fun window display, an old floor, and barrels of fancy wrapped snacks, but it all goes back to the quality and taste of the candy. If they stepped it up, it could be a great little store.
