This was, without a doubt, the worst Thai food I’ve had. I’ve had better Thai in mall food courts. The calamari may as well have been onion rings. I ordered Tom Yum soup and there was no flavor, it was bland. How the heck does a Thai restaurant screw up Tom Yum soup? Then I ordered the Ka Pow chicken and it was cold, bland, and swimming in a salty broth. I sent everything back… I almost never send anything back. I paid for my drink and left. Gross food. Zero stars.

My family’s go-to restaurant in Old Town. Hugely satisfying portions and very well cooked. The green curry was flavorful, the crispy duck was cooked perfectly to order, and the drunken noodles were huge and satisfying. Perfect mix between sweet and savory. They must have really taken note on the service complaints, they were incredibly attentive tonight. Not that haven’t been for me in the past, but it seemed like they have been really trying to redeem themselves lately.

Quick and friendly service. The Ladna Kapow special was incredible! Although, I expected more than three shrimp for a $ 15 entrée. Iced coffee was strong and sweet, as intended. Would explore more of their menu for sure. I’ll be back!

My first time visiting Mai Thai, I would rate the place 3.5 stars. Met up with one of my dear friend for lunch and we both had the hot green tea to start out. She ordered the chicken with cashew and I ordered chicken drunken noodle. My friends chicken was lightly battered & fried vs just think slices of chicken stir fry with cashews. My friend said it wasn’t bad but wanted stir fry chicken. My drunken was tasty and they did give generous amount of thin chicken meat ;). The view was great since we sat by the window looking out into the water(right by the Boat Club). Old Town have so many places to venture and we always love hanging out there, but today was a bit overcast, chilly with rain drizzle…

At the very end of King Street, just before the river, there is a wonderful, quirky Thai restaurant that has become one of my favorites. On warm days, it’s great to sit outside and watch the tourists(there is very little vehicular traffic on this stub of a street). In colder weather, it’s great to sit upstairs by the big windows and watch the boat traffic on the river. Their pad thai is what others should be; the green curry is delightful; and I love the pepper beef. Service is good, and there is a small but well-stocked bar on the lower level. Just thinking about this place makes me hungry. Only downside is that I’ve had two girlfriends break up with me immediately after eating here. Can’t say for sure it’s their fault, however.

While the food was decent, it wasnt spectacular in comparison to other thai places that i’ve been so it did not warrant the increase in price. additionally, the service was horrible. we went at a slightly off time for lunch and it wasnt busy inside, but we kept having to flag the waiter when we needed something. and most of the time it was because they were just chatting with each other. It got super frustrating always having to get their attention. save your money and go someplace else with better service.

The food was good but not great especially as there’s lots of amazing Thai food in the northern Virginia area.(It’s possible that I just ordered wrong.) The drinks were excellent and delicious so certainly if you’re looking for a few drinks with your Thai food this is the spot. The service we had here was barley above average. The waitress seemed to understand the idea of good service i.e. She kept the waters full but rushed us to choose, didn’t ask for drink refills, seconds or desserts and didn’t acknowledge the birthday at our table. The atmosphere was nice and the food was ok so I might go back, but wouldn’t be top of my list.

Visited Mai Thai with a group of friends last evening. Being Halloween the restaurant was fairly empty and we were promptly seated. Service was decent enough. They took our order, brought the food in a very timely fashion. I ordered the drunken noodle tofu. One of my friends had the crispy duck. She was unable to enjoy or finish her meal as the duck was incredibly salty(another friend tasted it and said the same thing). My tofu noodle was salty as well but not so much that I couldn’t finish it. We were generally pleased with the vegetable spring rolls. A number of us took our leftovers to go. Bad idea. After dinner, we went for a walk along the water front. I noticed that I had a mild headache and was slightly dizzy. I chalked it up to a long evening of excitement. This morning I had a bit of the leftovers. Less than 30 minutes after, forehead throbbing. I’m now writing this review with one eye open, from underneath a blanket with my blinds closed. Full fledged migraine. An MSG-induced migraine. If you like MSG, and don’t have a history of migraines Mai Thai is fairly decent Thai food.

I never post on Unilocal. In fact, I post so infrequently that I had to get a new password to post this review because I had forgotten my original one. Anyway, this review is for customer service alone. We never made it in to eat. For my friend’s bachelorette, we made reservations for a party of 5 at 7pm a month in advance. Then called in an additional time to confirm. We arrived at 7pm on the special day only to find… They had no reservation for us. They informed us we would have about an hour wait. We expressed our frustration in an understated way, only to have them explain«Well, our servers are Thai.» Nice– throw your servers under the bus. No words. On a plus, Pizza Paradiso was able to accommodate us quickly and was(is) delicious!

I think I’m done with Mai Thai. Food is neither over nor underwhelming and I mainly order it for delivery. Last three delivery orders have been messed up. Also, after leaving a nice umbrella in the restaurant a while back, management said they would hold it for me. Went to get it and the management had no idea what happened to it. Not very good service.

They have an outdoor patio on the street with a narrow view of the river. I forget how annoying the king street trolly, which stages across the street, can be. Perhaps eat in doors unless it’s a great day out. Old town is a great city for remaining in day light or night for that matter. Too bad Mia Thai has some negatives on its location When the Alexandria waterfront plan gets completed the view will improve. But that’ll take years. Speaking of waiting… The service was slow but the food is good. There are so many good Thai Resturant s around. Mia Thai doesn’t stand out above the rest but worth it if you don’t want to leave the waterfront area. You can always take the annoying, but free, trolly up king street a couple of blocks and find better options for your Thai tastebuds.

Mai Thai serves good Thai food but one dish is exceptional. They offer a whole red snapper that is deep fried and coated with garlic and Thai Sweet Chillie sauce. the skin is savory and crispy, and meat is sweet and tender. It will have you picking up the bones and sucking the goodness out of them. It’s a must for fish lovers, but if you’re squeamish about digging around the fish head, this is probably not for you. It’s a true foodie treat. The restaurant is in the prime location of Old Town Alexandria, literally a pebbles toss away from the Potomac on King Street. They have an outside dining area which dependent on the weather, is a fun place to dine and people watch. Although the restaurant is clean and trendy, the indoor floor has the feeling of a slight stickyness to your shoes. If you’re in Old Town and enjoy Thai food, give it a try.

We visited here last Friday August 21st at 6:30pm. We got in just in time as both the upstairs and downstairs filled up right behind us. The service was great(her name is Best) and made up for the food which was not the best It was good, but after reading the reviews here, I expected better. Cost vs Value? I would probably go elsewhere next time.

Food is pretty good but the service rude. My brother, my 11 month old, and I came here for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. There was I think one other group eating there but for the most part it was empty. We choose to eat outside on the patio just in case the baby started to get fussy or noisy. I had the stroller parked behind my seat and a waitress comes and says you need to fold that up! Ok, no problem, I folded it up even though there was absolutely no one else on the patio. My daughter was being a little grabby as an 11 month old wants to touch everything so she picked up a napkin and dropped it on the ground. I picked it up and set it on the table and she picked it up again, this time the waitress taking our order grabbed it out of her hand and took it away. For the entire meal she kept glaring at the baby with dismay. I cleaned up the few food scraps that were on the ground under her high chair and she really was pretty content through the whole meal but it was clear that they don’t like dealing with babies there. Will never go back for that reason. If they don’t want babies there then maybe they should get rid of the high chairs they have. I wouldn’t have been offended, we just would’ve found another place to eat. Definitely not a kid friendly place.

Worth trying if you are in Old Town and want a nice meal with a view! It was too hot to sit outside so in that case I recommend eating upstairs because the view of the river is really nice. t was very intimate upstairs as it was lunchtime on a weekday. Crab-shrimp Spring Rolls are a must get! The Mojito was flavorful and extra minty! I was slightly underwhelmed by my dish. My go-to Thai dish is Tofu Panang. The Panang was super thick and I prefer it a little lighter. I’m not sure why I didn’t love it but the sauce didn’t stand out to me. The Green Curry however is delicious and the sauce was perfectly balanced. Service was good.

I’m from Hawaii and Thai food is much much better in Hawaii than here. But Mai Thai is pretty good. They have Thai iced tea(didn’t see it on the menu but asked the waiter if they had any). You must order Thai iced tea if you’ve never tried it! I also had drunken noodles with beef and papaya salad. The food was pretty tasty and the service was good. The restaurant is really nice and trendy looking so overall I enjoyed it.

Mai Thai was the closest thing I have had to mainland Thailand food and it was delicious! I had the Tofu drunken Noodles and a beer and was I a happy camper. My foodie love had the red curry chicken and all I can say for that is, keep ya mamma away from the place, cause you’ll will slap her its so good(I dont condone violence BTW)! Seriously the price was right, it was Friday night and it was doing all right! Ill be back for second soon, stay tuned!

Service can be better. Food is pretty good. I ordered Minced Chicken with grilled Eggplant. It was pretty tasty plus their portions here are LARGE. The kids ordered spring rolls and steamed dumplings. They crushed it. Wifey ordered Basil Mussels. Again… HUGE portion. If they improve their service, they would get an extra ½ star from me! UPDATE: I’m changing my review to 1 star. We found a piece of BLACK Rock in our mussel dish. It was around 3 inches long. At first glance, you couldn’t see it because it blended in with the«real» mussel. This is UNACCEPTABLE.

Came here for lunch on a Friday w/my 2 brothers — no wait/reservation required! Ambience/décor: — beautiful! Two floors, big art structure hanging from the ceiling in the middle, awesome view of the river, lots of sunlight — definitely recommend a table by the window on the 2nd floor Service: — Not great. Really hard to get waitresses’ attention. From where we were sitting we could see the waitress in the kitchen on her phone… — Even had to call down other waiters b/c our waitress was nowhere to be seen Food: — Chicken skewers: came out super undercooked, very pink in the middle. Sent it back, they gave us another one which was better cooked but flavor-wise was still meh — Pad Thai w/Chicken & beef: delicious! lots of veggies and full of peanut flavor. Pretty big portions too — Pad See-Ew w/Beef: good but nothing out of ordinary. Compared to the pad thai it seemed a bit lacking in ingredients/flavor — Mango Sticky Rice: sooooo yummy — highly recommend! Overall I’ll probably still go again since the main entrees are decent and it’s a block from my office. Hope the service is better next time though!

It was 6 pm on a Thursday night, and two foodies walk into a bar… Where the bar tender barely makes eye contact and the staff is VERY stand-offish(shy and stand off– ish). One of the thirsty passers by order a saketini… They were out of sake. Non apologetic. Place is not clean… ew. So a round of waters with some steamed dumplings — although the flavor was ok, the color was off-putting… greyish. Thai spring rolls, ok. Paid bill and hit the road. Straight to the Wharf… End of story.
