In searching for a new dentist, I did a lot of research before making an appointment anywhere. I found Dr. Tsui via my insurance plan’s within-network provider search function and after reading good things about the practice, I called to make an appointment. A man answered the phone when I called and I said I was a new patient who would like to make an appointment. I asked him to confirm that they accepted my insurance; he replied in the affirmative and I made an appointment for two weeks out. He told me to make sure to put the appointment in my calendar, because they do not call to confirm appointments. Fine. On the day of my appointment, I arrive a few minutes early only to be unceremoniously and unapologetically informed that they do not accept my insurance. Both the receptionist and dentist(he was in a white jacket, so I’m assuming he was Dr. Tsui) were rather argumentative with me when I said they should ask to be removed from the insurance plan’s provider database. The doctor offered a half-hearted«sorry,» as I left in a highly annoyed state. It was obvious that they really didn’t care one way or the other. Surely they know that patients take time off from work and other obligations for these appointments — not to mention the fact that people generally don’t enjoy wasting time on doctor’s offices who say one thing when you make an appointment and then another when you actually arrive. If this is how they treat people before they even get into the dentist chair, I don’t have much confidence in anything else they do.
