New to the area and I needed to find a barber near here. Followed the Unilocal reviews here and waited for henry. Wasnt at all disappointed. Got one of the best cuts I’ve ever had.

great cuts, fast efficient and decent price, had to double check on the cut before leaving but still they made a great cut. If you are looking for something more high class this is deff not your place but if you only need a quick cut then this is the place. Very friendly staff and very helpful with my son as well(3yrs old)

I’ve been doing here since I first moved to the area in 2008. Though I no longer live in Alexandria(I live in DC), I still come down to this particular shop. They’re courteous, knowledgable and friendly. At this point, I just sit down, and they cut. no questions… which I like.

I’ve been coming here for over 5 years and have received a near perfect haircut everytime. Before coming here I’ve had a few disappointing haircuts from other barbers nearby, however after my first cut here, I’ve been a loyal customer ever since and never look back

I’ve been getting quality fades here for a few months. Waaaayyy better than around the base. They do a shave at the bottom which is rare. I am also ecstatic that they understand not to cut my bangs too short, unlike 90% of the places I go.

Come out here and check out Henry. That man is nice with the clippers. Precise and detailed. Customers kept coming in for Sonny? Never met the kid but he seems really popular.

Every barber there is skilled, except the Asian lady. With all due respect, this woman doesn’t have a clue what she’s doing. I don’t know if she simply can’t cut hair, lacks observational or communication skills or if it’s all of the above. To give you an example, I explicitly told her, and more than once, not to cut my bangs. What did she do? She cut them off. She also seems to think it’s a good idea to dust men with baby powder. And trust me when I tell you, I don’t give off that metrosexual, froufrou vibe. She should’ve known better, and permanently lost a customer. Nevertheless, she is the only one there to avoid — and is the reason I give the Van Dorn Barbershop four stars instead of five. They would do well to hand her her hat and show her the door.

I have been using this place for about 2 years since we moved to Alexandria. Pros: clean, rarely a wait, and they never rush to get you done. Con: the comment below is correct, they tend to cut your hair short, no matter what you ask for; the«pro» of that is you can go longer between visits.

Great place. Never much of a wait, they generlly have between 3 – 4 barbers working. So if you go in and it looks full, the turn over is actually fairly quick. I go to Henry, who I have developed a great relationship with over the years, but they have all cut my hair at least once. This is the first time that I moved to a new area and found a great barber shop on my first attempt.

I have been going here for about 6 months now and go twice a month. I had Henry cutting my hair only for a while because he did an excellent job the first time. I walked in one day with a slight wait and I was in a rush. I opted to let Sonny cut my hair as Henry was busy. Walked away just as impressed and now I let either of them cut my hair. This place is not fancy and the soap opera on TV may bore you a bit, but they will take damn good care of you and you will be back. I leave them a $ 20 every time and am treated like an appreciated customer, and that’s all I ask for. I will be back here as long as I live in DC

I think I’ve found a keeper… Henry was very friendly and very competent. He took his time, gave me a great cut and I walked away gladly leaving $ 20(15 plus tip) without buyers remorse

As a kid I had that uneasy feeling every time my dad said«were going to the barber shop». I would try and pretend to be sick or put on a hat. Like my dad ever fell for those tricks. The main reason I got nervous was we lived on a military base and that meant my head could be shaved at any moment. Not that my hair would ever be longer than a crew cut until high school anyways. I have been getting my hair cut by Henry for over 3 years. I don’t care how long the wait is. I will wait for Henry. I guess that makes me a barber snob. Henry does a fantastic job and always smiles. He is eager to hear about my travels and weekend racing adventures. He’s a good guy. Don’t show up on Mondays looking for Henry. It’s his day off! Van Dorn Barber shop is located in a small strip mall between Akasaka Japanese restaurant and Country Cleaners. It’s only $ 14 for a cut which ends with a straight razor shave and that old fashion blue after shave which leaves the skin tingly. Even if I move to DC, I would come back to see Henry to get what’s left of my hair cut.
