So this is the traditional«special occasion» go-to in Beaver County. First Communions, confirmations, birthdays. The place does a good job with groups. The place is decorated pretty aggressively pseudo-European. The age of the clientele averages in the high 70’s. But the food and service are 5-stars, easily. It’s basically one step below fine dining. They specialize in steak and seafood. The menu ranges from burgers to surf and turf and can be pricey. Cloth napkins and a huge, well-trained staff lend well to the dark, euro atmosphere, but jeans and flip flops are totally acceptable. I had the veal parm, which was top notch. The veal was paper thin and tender. The marinara was on the sweet side, but very good. The starter caesar salad was awesome and obviously made fresh by the kitchen. The mini loaf of bread was still warm and absolutely delicious. The baked potatoes seemed to be popular, and came with a small lazy susan with butter, sour cream and bacon. Will definitely try that next time. As for the other reviews, I think the best restaurants are those where you can say«I’ve never had a bad experience there.» This place fits the bill.

Okay. The place is okay. The salad bar is the best and I almost gave it 3 stars just because of that. Service is good so that is a plus also. It is old. New décor is weird and unappealing. Glad old owners are back tho!

Had dinner here last night with hubby and friends. We ordered the shrimp cocktail for appetizer. The shrimp was a little on the chewy side. I ordered salmon with a side of Brussels sprouts. The salmon was perfect. The sprouts were very dry. No amount of salt gave them flavor. My hubby had the fillet Mingnon and baked potato. He was very pleased. We both had the salad bar. Everything on the salad bar was fresh and looked very appetizing. The service wasn’t as good as we have had in the past there. I think she might have been fairly new. The best part of the meal was the cheesecake with strawberries. All in all it was an enjoyable evening with fair service and good food except for appetizer and sprouts. And yes I would go back.

Had the Reuben and it was the best. We all had something different. Plus the appetizer platter. We were all happy and full. Out waitress was attentive and so was the hostess. I wish we had a JW’s in Georgia.

Ordered sangria and it was odd tasting. Dinner got chicken parmesan and found a bone in a bite. Gross. They took $ 5 off!!! Server was very nice and tried to correct it but just a bad experience. I will not be back.

We’ve been to JW Hall’s many times and it’s been ok, but nothing that has ever been great. The last time wasn’t very good though. This is supposed to be a steak and seafood place. You’d think that seafood dishes would be great here. I had a seafood combo dish that included, shrimp, langostinos(lobser kettle) and scallops. All of the seafood was way over cooked and rubbery. I was so disappointed. The staff was very apologetic and took the meal off of my bill, but my meal and evening was still ruined. We used to go to Hall’s at least once a month, but I think it’s going to be a while before I decide to go back.

Got a to go order here last month. Food was horrible, cold, and seemed like it was reheated. I ate at Harold’s Inn down the street a few weeks after and had a great meal. The prices are better and the food is much fresher. There are so many other choices then to visit this place where the prices are high and the food terrible.

My family resides in the area and loves dining at Halls. When I come up to visit they constantly choose J.W. Halls as our family dinner destination. It’s nice that they have a local place they enjoy and frequent. However, if I lived nearby it wouldn’t be my first or second choice. Don’t get me wrong… Halls isn’t terrible, but it also isn’t great. Besides being clean and having a loyal fan base of 65+ year olds… it doesn’t appear to have a whole lot going for it. I’m underwhelmed over and over again. The décor is dated. Green leather booths… low lighting… a self serve salad bar… located in a shopping plaza… Need I say more? The servers have always been polite and attentive. I’ve never had a complaint about the service. The menu has a decent assortment of lunch and dinner options. It’s always nice to have variety. Although, prices are a little on the high side… salads can be upwards of $ 14 and pasta options are $ 16 and up. The biggest mark against this place is the food. I have never found a meal that would make me return(on my own free will). I love a good Pittsburgh Steak Salad… but this one is just ‘blah’. The burgers and sandwiches are average. Fries are your typical frozen fries. Everything is edible, but nothing has flavor and nothing stands out. Last time here… I was recommended the Turkey Devonshire. I thought ‘surely I can’t go wrong with a casserole that includes bacon and cheddar cheese’! Wrong… so wrong. It was simply loads and loads of processed melted cheese over turkey, tomatoes, and toast. I’ll stick to the frozen fries in the future. I’m certain Halls was a hopping place in the 80s and 90s. Not so much today.

I have been going back and forth between what to say about this eatery. After looking over some of the previous reviews, I think I’ve figured out why it’s been so difficult to write about. I have nothing good, nor bad, to say about JW Halls. Nothing stands out as far as location, atmosphere, food quality, service or prices. On the flip side, I found nothing offensive about the establishment either. So, what it comes down to, if you haven’t been here before and are looking for a quiet place to take the family, it’s worth giving this place a try.

I noticed there weren’t any current reviews so I will remedy that. Hubby and I ate there over the weekend. We are recent transplants to Beaver Co so don’t know(or care) about what WAS. we care about what is. and we had an enjoyable meal here. It was not the best meal I ever ate but the place was clean, friendly and fairly priced. I ordered a prime rib sandwich and hubby had fish on a dish. My sammich was fresh prime rib, cooked to order and his fish was prepared properly. The salad bar was good– just lettuce and toppings with a few sides. IF you are coming here just for the salad bar you may be disappointed. They made their desserts in house and looked delish but we did not have room for them that night. Overall a decent place to eat dinner and or have a drink in their large bar. We will be back again.

I went here once so far, and some parts of the dinner were really good, while others were lacking. What was ordered: one fillet minot(me) and one salmon steak(husband), plus salad bar. Pros: +The salmon was absolutely amazing. I will come back for it. +The dinner comes with whole-wheat bread loaf(or you can choose white) which was really good and seemed fresh. Cons: +My steak was not as good as I expected for the price. It was OK, but not quite good. It was thin, not seasoned very well, and they over-cooked it despite me asking for it to be medium +The salad bar leaves a lot to be desired, especially for the price. It has less options than an Eat N Park salad bar. It really is just salad, and no frills. You can’t even get soup at this salad bar. I was disappointed by this. So to sum up, there are certainly good options on the menu, salmon is really good if you like salmon, the steak is eh, OK, and don’t go there expecting to fill up on salad bar because there aren’t many options.

I grew up going to J. W Halls. I have never complained about the food while Joe Hall was the owner. They have the best salad bar in town. Also, their fish sandwiches are incredible. All around great service and amazing food.

Not crazy about the décor and atmosphere, place has a dated look and feel to it, but I must say I’ve never had a bad meal here, I even tried some new things they just put on the menu and I was very pleased.

I have been living in Beaver County for about 5 years and when I first started going to Hall’s I found the French onion soup too salty, the steaks bland and food simply mediocre. However, I went recently for a group dinner and was surprisingly impressed. I ordered the turkey club which was delicious. I also had a side of the lobster mac and it was wonderful! They also make 90% of their desserts in house and had the best coconut cream pie. When it came out it was about 5 times the size of a normal slice and I had plenty to bring home with me. The menu is new and improved as is the food quality.

Excellent salad and bread with each meal. The lobster was very good and baked potato just right. Service was professional and friendly. Very nice atmosphere with the exception of the bar in the front some lady must have had a few too many and it was loud. Overall very nice we will return.

Food and service have always been amazing. Just a great high end atmosphere for family and friends. We’ve came here every year for as long as I can remember for my mothers birthday. We’ve always had a great time. 5 stars indeed.

The food is really good. It seems steak, lobster, Longestinos and wine are popular choices. My husband ordered the prime rib medium and it melted in our mouths like butter. I ordered the Filet and it was very good. The baked potato was perfectly cooked. The staff is always professional and friendly. The atmosphere is casual to dressy. It’s a great restaurant to take the family or a date to if your celebrating. There is a bar area in the front when you walk in.

First of all I have to provide a disclaimer: I live in Texas and was just visiting the area. We have lots of great steakhouses in Texas and I am possibly biased based on the quality of what I normally have available. I recently ate at J.W. Hall’s and found the service to be adequate. The food was just ok. My grandfather ordered his steak medium well, I ordered mine medium rare, and both came cooked about medium. They also didn’t use a rub or anything on the meat to provide flavor with the steak, so they offered steak sauce. A good steak place would not only refuse to offer A1 to you, but be insulted if you asked for it. It’s not snooty to use some black pepper and salt when you cook a steak. The sides were ok, the baked potato was average. The salad was basically a step up from the salad in a bag stuff. The green beans were ok, although a bit too oily and cold. I probably wouldn’t go back here unless someone else invited me and was unwilling to listen to suggestions of other places.
