I have been going here for a while but never tried the espresso. That was foolish of me, because the espresso is to die for! Best espresso I have ever had.

This coffee is the best! Not only is it cheaper from the large coffee corporations, it’s organic, and is made fresh. You can’t beat this place. The whole coffee shop has a great atmosphere. The owner is the best, she makes sure you’re happy with your time spent here and are 100% satisfied. Also, if you’re a college student at muhlenburg she gives you a discount. When you come here, expect great coffee, great people, and a great environment. Highly recommended

I go to college right around the corner and I really want to say that I like Hava Java, the location is great, and the coffee is good, but unfortunately the prices and the owner — as some other reviews have stated, make me hesitate before going there. I’ve only been a couple times in my four years here, but definitely prefer supporting an independent coffee shop over Starbucks any day. However, I was just in there with a friend and she was not at all friendly. She took a long time to get us what we asked for and kept suggesting that my friend didn’t actually know what he wanted. There is a discount for college students, but unfortunately that doesn’t do very much to help the very expensive prices. As a student, I really can’t afford to go here very much in the first place, and when I consider the experiences I’ve had at the coffee shop, I generally decide against it. It’s disappointing that I have to advise people that their money is better spent somewhere else, but alas, it is what it is.

The coffee is excellent, the chai is fantastic, and the owner is the best! Best coffee shop in town. And the open mics on Friday nights are a great way to start the weekend.

Fun atmosphere with the cups on the ceiling and the painted tables in the shop. All the coffee is organic and GMO-free, which is rare to find in Allentown. Wide variety of home-made baked goods that are absolutely delicious. To top it off, free wifi and one of the best locations in Allentown.

I’ve stopped in the Hava Java on a few occasions. On my first two visits the coffee was fine, though the owner was a bit rough around the edges. My most recent visit was much more disappointing, and I will most likely not return. The food and drink is mediocre, but the attitude and horrible customer service from the owner is what will keep me away. I’m looking forward to the day when she realizes that she hates her job and sells the coffee shop to someone who will be more pleasant to patron.

I like the atmosphere a lot, but the actual coffee isn’t particularly interesting. Not much in the way of choices for beans or brew options. Espresso drinks and service were fine. A decent coffee shop to check out.

This place is an average coffee shop and I would have most likely come back, however the woman working there has the worst attitude. The customer service is HORRIBLE! When asked a simple question she mocked us in her response. We had a unpleasant experience and she made inappropriate gestures, like rolling her eyes and taking on a condescending tone. I just found her to be very unprofessional and immature. I am all for supporting independent coffee shops and small businesses, however she needs to transform herself and her attitude. I would recommend NOONE to ever go here! Just find a Dunkin or Starbucks before ever stepping foot here!

Organic coffee and excellent atmosphere. Recommend checking it out if you are in the West End of Allentown. Much better than chain coffee joints.

I read some varied reviews and unfortunately, my experience here was terrible. The hours were open till 11, i was kicked out after waiting for my friend to meet me for 10 minutes(10 minutes to 10) and she said without warning that they closed and he can’t come. She was very concerned with her laptop, rude when speaking to me(though pleasant to the 2 fellows she knew that walked in), and I would not recommend it based on her customer service skills…

Terrible place. I walked in to the lady at the register having an argument with a repair guy, that went on for twenty minutes. The coffee tasted very bad. The tables were all rickety and unstable, and it was quite cold in there. It was just all the things that I don’t want out a coffee spot, and felt really uncomfortable there.

The coffee is mediocre at best. I saw another reviewer noted the high quality of the espresso… But I cannot say I feel the same way. Even mediocre coffee shops in Philadelphia, like the Last Drop, Gleaners or Rocket Cat know the difference between a latte and a capaccino. Furthermore, the owner acted like she was doing me a favor to acknowledge my presence. I understand that a lot of baristas have that devil may care attitude going on. But this was not that, and the place is hardly high volume enough to warrant such an attitude. Its a shame. I’ve been going to hava java since high school, when it was under different ownership. I have find memories, but I won’t be back until it changes hands, which I truly hope happens soon.

I have been here a handful of times and each one was a weird experience for me. I am giving two stars just because I support what they represent; a coffee shop that supports the arts. Outside of that I really dislike it. Each time basically just had bad service. The owner comes across as rude to me, I only ever was served by her except for tonight when she had someone else working… she was kinda rude too. First time just seemed like she didn’t feel like making my mocha, seemed grumbly, not friendly. Another time scoffed at me when I handed her a $ 10 bill and asked«Is this all you have?» as in she wanted smaller bills, the place was dead, as it usually is and I’m assuming she didn’t want to make change… not my problem. After that I swore I would never go back, which sucks because Allentown really needs more places like this and I love the vibe that 19th st. brings to the city. Tonight I stopped by to check out the open mic they have on fridays, seemed like a decent vibe, family oriented, artsy. I ordered a mocha and the girl working again seemed weird about it… it’s a coffee shop just make the darn drink! This time I paid with a $ 20 and had a feeling that it would cause an awkward situation, and it did. She didn’t make a big deal about she just shook her head a little bit and gave me my change. I will take my coffee business elsewhere with no intentions of going back.

Cute décor, but strange experience. The woman running it was just chillin at her laptop until we looked like we wanted to order. They don’t have a hot chocolate of cider option, so she made me a mocha type thing. I’m not sure what she made me, she just threw a bunch of stuff together so I would purchase it. The price was decent and her concoction tasted ok, but I felt slightly sick later and it seemed like it was due to the coffee. There were also little bugs flying around. I will not be back anytime soon.

I was excited to learn there was a café within walking distance of my home. But it’s been a year and I’ve only been twice. Both times I was served by a woman who seemed more interested in surfing the web on her laptop in the café than serving customers. She rushed to throw together drinks both time I ordered and I was unimpressed by the product. The pastries look boring and kinda dried out. I wish this place was more tempting.

We were staying in the Poconos on President Day Weekend to enjoy some skiing, tubing… etc. Little did we know that we would stumble upon a gem like Hava Java. For starters, the décor is quaint and cozy. Mugs hanging from the ceiling, bookshelves with a variety of books, a comfortable couch and cute tables scattered across the room. Next the coffee! We all enjoyed excellent caffeinated hot beverages(think rich mocha and flavorful foamy cappuccinos) additionally to a delicious chocolate covered biscotti. Last but not the least, the ambiance. There was a talented singer, Not for Coltrane, check him out if you can. He sang original songs as well as other artists’ like Bowie, Radiohead and many others. All that while playing the guitar and indulging us by taking our requests. Very cool! The owner is a lovely lady who doesn’t pass up an opportunity to talk about local artists and featuring their work inside her coffee shop. Bottom line: if you live in the area or are just visiting, you should definitely stop by for some Java and fun.
