This is a camp-​like jail facility operated by the san diego country sheriff on the eastern outskirts of alpine. The address actually says alpine but it’s more like «descanso.» It’s about a 35 minute drive out of down town. I’m not exactly clamoring to go to jail, but if I had to do some local custody this would be the place to be– guards are relaxed and the atmosphere is about as easy going as you could imagine a jail could be. All the inmates are here because they are low security risk– first time offenders and non-​violent offenders: car thieves, identify fraudsters, etc. Professional visits require no advance notice, call ahead for social visits.
