Great variety of ethnic foods(mexican and armenian). Good produce section. Great parking. Terrible ambiance and the staff seems as unhappy as they come. The mexican bakery is plain — I was never a fan of mexican breads anyway. Good market for basic staples and some ethnic stuff. Could be cleaner and more welcoming.

I’m finding it hard to find decent food in Altadena lately. Local business need to clean up their act. This store was closed for months due to a change of ownership. Which would give them ample time to hire quality employees and have those employees inspect their own inventory before selling poison to the masses. I recently bought seafood salad here and became violently ill within 45 minutes. Now this was the second time I discovered such carelessness in my own town. Totally unacceptable. Considering the two food items that made both my son and I sick in the same week were not prepared by myself gives me even more validation that society is walking a fine line between quality and dangerous negligence. Clean it up people.

EGADS! The Store was closed! Something is fishy here. Something about the property owners not doing the right thing. We want Farm Fresh back! Please come back! We don’t want you to reopen as Gigante or Super A or whatever. This was the greatest market in the area. It was full of folks, full of great produce at bargain prices direct from local farms, multi-cultural food items, naturapathic remedies. The sushi bar was excellent — as were the 8PM specials the sushi chef had. I was very excited about the great little mini-mall this store was a part of in our dear ol’ ‘Dena. But as this anchor store closes, all that’s left is 24-hour fitness, a post-office/copy shop, and Panda Express. Come on! Let’s get it together, and have a great shopping area that the ‘Dena really needs. NEWSFLASH: OK — so our store has reopened with a different name: Super King. Big plus: the produce is basically the same great quality, cheap, eclectic, yummy stuff. Changes: Lots more Armenian/Middle Eastern products — 17 kinds of feta cheese, yummy halva, freshly made baklava by the pound — yum. Big minus: vibe. The last owner often bagged the groceries, talked to you about everything, asked you what kind of produce you liked. Really a people person. The new guy? I made a friendly suggestion that they allow cash back at the cash register with ATM cards.(Duh) I got a cold nod. Harumph. Let me just say, I miss the OLD store. Even with only 2 kinds of feta.

Except for the produce section, and the cute sushi bar, this is definitely a market to skip. It’s huge, but the shelves are not well stocked and the prices for groceries are no bargain. The hispanic-style bakery is OK, but nothing special. Neither is the meat section. Wonderful produce can be had for a great price here, but it is definitely«caveat emptor». If you know your fruits and vegetables and have the time and patience to sort through the offerings you will be rewarded. So, a couple of stars for the produce and sushi, but little else to recommend this place.
