The food was pretty tasty. The seating is a bit cramped. Was a little strange for me to be sitting so close to the next table that it was as if they were sitting with us. Lol The kids meals are $ 5.95 with absolutely no veggies; just fried food or pasta and fries or buttered garlic bread offered; I asked if I could substitute and the waitress said«no». My husband got a ribeye steak with mashed potatoes and French onion soup for $ 22. I got a seafood pasta(mostly shrimp though they say there are three kinds) and garlic bread and a salad for $ 18. You be the judge. :) We will most likely not be going back. Not really worth it to us to spend $ 72 on 2 kids meals(with no veggies), 2 adult meals, and tip.

A MUST anytime you are in town! Prime rib is THE Best I’ve had around the country and the horseradish is to die for, while the Natural au jus is the perfect compliment. Fresh baked bread and cheesy corn made this the best meal. Our server TED is a legend here and makes the experience complete. Drove here from Colorado and it is well worth the drive.

it was our first time at this place with our family from Iowa, we went here for my aunt birthday on Sunday for breakfast/lunch. Nice place, friendly staff and great food. I think we will come back, I recommend this place.

Been to many steak houses around the country and had a many cuts of Prime Rib and I will say that the prime rib here is the best I have had yet. Perfect medium rare, fork tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Did not really use the au jus but when I did you can tell it is made with the actual drippings from the roast. The restaurant itself is a bit dated and looks like it has seen better days but that is part of the charm. If you are claustrophobic then you will not like the place because it is small and they pack you in. Not the place for intimate dining. The wait we had was approximately 45 minutes, granted we got there on a Friday night at about 7:30 pm, but the wait was well worth it. So my advise is if you do not want to wait get there at opening or call ahead. The wait staff was friendly. Very personable and offered good suggestions on what to try. My soda glass was never empty for more than a couple of minutes. The food was brought out in a timely manner. No prolonged period between salad and entrée. And it was hot! We had the crème brûlée for desert and again fantastic! Smooth, firm, creamy and the sugar beautifully caramelized on top. A wonderful end to the supper. All in all it was a very good supper. I cannot wait to go back and try more food. If you are looking for a very good cut of prime rib or a good steak. This is your place. Just be prepared to wait and be crammed in the dining room. But to me for good food and good service it is worth it!

It had that old supper club feel which I loved! I had the prime rib and scallops which were delicious. My companions had a burger and a Caesar salad which they said were great as well. I would definitely do this place again! Don’t let the big cow in front keep you from trying this place!

Place is older but don’t let that fool you. Food is excellent and a fair price. The staff all hustle and dust isn’t settling on anyone’s ass here. Excellent service and really good steaks and prime rib Potato soup also excellent.

You should make this restaurant a priority in your life. This is the best prime rib I have ever had in my life. The cheesy corn, onion rings and mac and cheese were also delicious. Fresh bread and salads were top notch as well. If you get a chance ask for Ted to be your server. He really made the meal even more enjoyable.

I had high expectations for the Big Steer and they met most of my expectations. It’s not a fancy place but it didn’t need to be, I still loved the atmosphere and thought it was very comfortable. The onion rings app was fantastic and the ½ order was big! The rings were thing and homemade. Our salads came with house dressings and were amazing-perfect amount of dressing and loved the homemade bread croutons. The homemade bread was some of the best I have had and my son ate 3 slices! For our main meals I had filet tips deburgo over mashed potatoes and it was ok. The meat actually seemed boiled… but the potatoes were good. My husband’s prime rib was fantastic!

Food was fine. The kitsch factor was through the roof. And a slice of spiced apple with my mini sweet potato casserole. Can’t ask for anything else.

We went here for Father’s Day. The big steer in the parking lot and décor is a little hokey, not my style to say the least. But the food was awesome. I ate everything and so did everyone at my table. My stepdad was very pleased with the brunch. Prices were very reasonable. Server was slammed but didn’t miss a beat.

The prime rib wasn’t great tonight. It would be stretching it to say that particular beef graded choice. However the waiter said they roast at least 8 beefs on Saturday nights so we just got the wrong one. The tenderloin and scallops were great and the waiter Ted was better! We celebrated a birthday and he made it special for everyone. We gave it 4.5 stars the last few visits. Tonight due to the prime rib; a 3.

If you’re looking for ambience, don’t come here. If you want a solid meal with competent, no-nonsense service, it’s a fine choice. The experience was reminiscent of a Wisconsin supper club without the lake view — or windows, for that matter. But my burger was big and juicy and paired well with mashed potatoes and gravy and a $ 2 bottle of Leinie. Worth a try.

Slightly over priced but the food is good. It’s a simple place in that you get a steak, side, and salad but it’s plenty to fill you up. The steaks don’t have unique seasonings or sauces on them; just plain grilled steak but they are great. They have the best creamy parmesan dressing! It’s nice to have a good, local restaurant in Altoona.

Always hot fresh food. Wait staff always friendly and orders are always correct. Everything is delicious! Best crab stuffed shrimp around. They grind their own burgers from steak. Mouth watering delicious. Can’t say enough good things about the food and service. Call ahead and make reservations as sometimes you will have to wait. Bar is great for waiting if you’re there early enough to get a seat.

One heal of a place. The stakes are out of this world, when you walk in prepare for a wait and then be amazed by the stake — just perfect.

I have to admit the larger than life Bovine in the front of the lounge has deterred me for many years. Last night my wife and I decided to brave the cold fog and decided to walk into the home of the mutant cow in search of a good meal. At first I was worried as we walked in about 30 minutes before closing and stood at the host stand for what felt like 10 minutes waiting for a host to come. The bartender noticed us and commented«now where is our resident slacker.?» I laughed under my breath and hope this would not be a portent of things to come. We were eventually seated and I ordered the cattlemen’s cut prime rib while wifey ordered the rib eye. We both ordered the baked potato as a side and I had a caesar salad to start. Our waiter then brought out some bread which I must say is some of the best bread that I have EVER had. Not sure if it was«homemade» but it sure tasted like it. It was warm, soft, and addictive. I would rename it crack bread. OMG. I had to stop myself from simply eating that for dinner. The caesar salad came covered in good parmesan cheese(not coming from the green kraft bottle) so if you like cheese this is the salad to order. Then came our glorious steaks. The wife’s rib eye was great but the prime rib is the cut to order. It was so flavorful. I can tell they brine/marinate the beef in some way because it is packed with beef flavor. It didn’t need any gravy and was tremendous with just a few dashes of salt. The potatoes were ok, not with a crunchy salt crust but good nonetheless. Dessert was meh, don’t eat dessert here, I ordered the apple pie and I could tell it was a microwaved piece of costco pie. Not bad but maybe not worth the money although I have to say after all that salted meat it definitely helped to close the meal. I have to say our server was great. He brought us some extra bread to take home to the fam(which didn’t last very long). In short, order LOTS of BREAD. Order the PRIMERIB, then hit Over the top for some ice cream. Perfect night. It’s going to be hard to get back to my vegan days after this.

Excellent service by Krisitn for sure. Came in and the staff was great and sat us immediately even though it was 30 minutes to close. All meals were great and well priced. Don’t let the giant cow billboard scare you away. The décor is very dated — which is why they get 4 not a 5 star. Would give 4.5 but we all know there is no option for that. Would come back for sure. Directions — go to the casino — the. Head towards 80 — turn right — look for a giant cow

I heard this place had a mean steak and that it used to be an Outback steakhouse. Wasn’t sure what to expect till I walked in & walked right into the 80s. However, there was nothing dank or out of date about their food! This place is a hidden gem. My boyfriend and I split the Steak DeBurgo, medium rare. You had a choice between 1 – 6 oz. or 2 – 4 oz. so the 2 – 4 oz. portions were perfect. We each got a salad, his the danish blue and mine was the ceaser. The ceaser dressing was a little too thick but the danish blue was delish. We each got a side and I could have walked away a happy woman with just that! We tried to mac n cheese & the potatoes au gratin. They were so rich and amazing. I dreamed about them later. The server came by several times to refill our water without interrupting us which was nice. The manager stopped by to check on our steak and it was cooked perfectly. I’ll be back again. You won’t regret stopping by and trying this place out. They’ve been around a long time!

Tonight I ordered a 14 ounce ribeye which came with a twice baked potato and small loaf of bread and a side salad with creamy parm dressing. I ordered it to go. My beef was with the steak. It was terrible. There was a huge amount of fat and gristle making it almost inedible. In fact I weighed the fat after the fact and it weighed 3.5 ounces – a full 25% of the 14 ounce steak! Pathetic. Oh, and in case you’re wondering if it was just marbeling, it wasn’t. It was silver skin. fat and gristle. I cannot recommend The Big Steer after this meal. When my wife, who shared the meal with me, called to complain, they said they would call us back after«inspecting the uncooked steaks in the kitchen.» I received no such call. That’s just bad customer service. I think sometimes restaurants skate by on whatever success they’ve achieved and get lazy and don’t strive for continuous improvement. That’s bad business because eventually someone will come along and put them out of business. Can you whisper«Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse?» I’ve eaten at the best steak houses in the country, and while I don’t expect The Big Steer to be on par, I do expect more for my $ 26.

I had the filet and lobster tail with cheesy corn, french onion soup & bread… $ 31.95. The steak was amazing. It was cooked perfectly and was very tender. The sides were great too! We had a reservation on a Saturdaynight for 6:20, only waited about 15 min after getting there to be seated. The place was packed! It’s very casual. hoodies and jeans will do.
