Ye Olde Donut Shoppe has always had a reputation for great donuts & pastries. When I come home with donuts my family checks the bag & if they are from Happy Donuts they turn their noses up & refuse to eat them. I only do this when i’m short of cash & need to use a credit card. I love every thing they make.

While the building may be a bit of a put-off, it’s better inside. Believe me. Many who were regulars at Happy Donuts quit going when Philip, the original owner, had to leave and give it to his nephews. It hasn’t improved and they close even earlier than before! That’s where this places comes in! While the inside may be a bit aged and ‘creatively’ dusty, it definitely has some amazing donuts and fair-priced coffee. You get a bigger cup here for less money than across the street at Happy Donuts! Of course, going in the morning guarantees you fresher products and more products with crème-filling!(As with any doughnut shop I suppose.) Their Kolaches and cheese-filled goodies are amazing! They have a pretty fair selection, but not as big as Happy Donuts [which is probably why some go across the street]. But if you want good doughnuts, or pastries, then come here. It’s friendlier, and fresher, longer! It’s almost cheaper than Happy Donuts! But yes, it is true, they do not take credit cards or checks right now. But rumor has it, they are in the process of obtaining a credit/debit card machine to make transactions easier.

The building is a little austere, and everything looks like it could use a good cleaning. There was just one employee and they don’t take credit cards. I know a lot of locals who swear by this place, so I decided to try it. I went around 11 a.m. so the place was pretty empty and most of the donuts were picked over. I got a dozen plain glazed and ohhh gosh they were good. Real yeast donuts made fresh every morning… soooo tasty. It’s no Krispy Kreme but very satisfying, at good prices. Don’t be scared away by the building… it’s worth it.
