Amherst Farm Winery

This is a fabulous winery with a huge variety! The staff is so wonderful and caring! We were so lucky to have Jen as our tasting host! She was so knowledgeable and friendly! The goats are cute too!

Fabulous spot, Steve was a great guide and informative of the wines — beautiful and comfy area by the fire. Will be back!!!

Very awesome place to taste some wines and relax!!!
The outside may look strange, but once you’re inside its great. Very affordable and simple. We tried some wines, then bought some bottles ourselves for there and home. My favorite was the University Blend. Highly recommend if you want to kill some time and relax.

OK if you’re in town anyway, but not really a serious winery. Most wines are infused with flavors, which is a little more like chemistry to me rather than winemaking. There’s a gargantuan human foot casting outside for some reason which is not a landscaping plus. Owners of many New England wineries should visit some of the better New York wineries and take extensive notes and pick up on best practices to take things to the next level. We won’t even talk about Niagara On The Lake, Canada, or the west coast just yet…

My first winery experience was Napa Valley, ever since then, any other winery we’ve been to is crap. Never knew this place existed back when I was a student at UMass until the wife looked for things to do out in Amherst, and this was a place we decided to stop by. For $ 5 tasting, I expected more, I think the total amount of wine we received wasn’t even half a glass. Plenty of fruit wine, but seriously all tasted the same to me. Maybe we should have gone to wineries here and made Napa last but seriously, I’ve had better, Newport Winery in RI and Nashoba Valley Winery is better, stick to those.

The property is fairly big and flat, with a few goats roaming in the back. The tasting room is in a large farmhouse that has several rooms, an upstairs, and a deck in back. This winery offers about 15 wines for sampling (but there are probably about 25 wines for purchase), from which you can choose 5 for a $ 5 sampling that includes their logoed glass. The sample sizes are generous, but the wines are just okay. They seem to get busy, so don’t expect speedy service. The people working here mean well though. A receipt from here gets you a free tasting at Hardwick Vineyard & Winery in Hardwick, MA and vice versa.

After reading some of the previous reviews we went into this winery expecting to have some strange experience, but in the end we were pleased with how much we enjoyed our time here. The building was incredible and overall the atmosphere was relaxing.
When my fiancé and I walked in we were warmly greeted by staff members who welcomed us in and explained how the tasting worked, since it was our first time. $ 5 dollars for 5 wines was a steal and we loved the fact that we could take our cups.
The wine itself was great, yes they were sweet, but we found them to be deliscious. If you are a wine snob hoping to walk the vineyards while a wine aficionado explains every last detail, then go elsewhere. The staff here did a great job of explaining the wines and allowing us to have fun as we enjoyed each others company rather than burdening us with unwanted information.
In the end we had a blast, had some great wine, and walked out with a few bottles. We also loved the space so much, we think we want to hold our rehearsal dinner here.

I went to the winery a couple of years ago with a group of friends. They had mostly fruit wines which were alright. I ended up buying two bottles of their blueberry wine, the only wine I really liked that they had. When I opened one a month or so later, it didn’t taste like the wine I tasted there at all. I just assumed perhaps it was a different year or different batch and came out differently. I saved the other bottle and went to open it a year later… the blueberry wine turned into a neon green color and had an aweful smell. I had to throw out the bottle, and they aren’t cheap — I believe they were $ 25 each. I contacted the owner who offered a refund and replacement, who stopped responding to emails after I sent my information. Awefule wine and an aweful business.

Amherst Farm Winery’s wine was just okay. They specialize in fruit wines, and while I enjoy the occasional glass of «novelty» wine, I found these too sweet. The pourers– a couple of guys that looked to be in their early to mid-​twenties– couldn’t have been less enthused about the product or the process. That said, the visit was saved somewhat by the winery’s back deck, which was a pleasant place to sit and share one of the winery’s more drinkable bottles, the Weathervane White. If you’re in Hampshire County and like visiting vineyards and wineries, I’d still recommend Amherst Farm Winery (unless you really can’t stand fruit wine) as long as you’re not terribly interested in learning about the wine and winemaking process, but have some time to kill on the deck.

To start, if you like fruity wines, this is the place for you. If not, then stay away!
I’ve been going to Amherst since a few months after it opened. I went with a group of 6 people the first time. we ended up leaving with 4 cases. Every time I’ve gone back I’ve brought a different group of friends so they could experience the amazingness that was Amherst.
Unfortunately, the service at Amherst has gone downhill. The employees just don’t seem to care. they don’t tell you anything about the wines, and they don’t even rinse your glasses out for you! They all seem to want to be somewhere else. They’re mostly college students. so who could blame them I guess. The service is a far cry from the days when Craig worked there. He was just so happy and uplifting, and made the wine tasting experience fun. I miss him. :-(
All in all, this winery needs to work on its customer service to get back into my good graces. Which is a shame, because the blueberry wine is my favorite!

This winery was not my cup of tea. The winery serves a series of fruity wines. Blueberry, strawberry, etc. I thought it was strictly dessert wines, until they got out the actual dessert wine. This may be my taste, but I was not a fan of any of them.
Also, the employees doing the tastings seemed like they didn’t care. Unlike other wineries, they didn’t explain how each was made or the tastes you would get from each (I guess you don’t have to describe strawberry). They seemed distracted and like they wanted to be somewhere else.
Also, there is a huge foot in the parking lot. It was literally on a truck bed it was so huge. I’m not sure what that was about, but it was weird. It had painted toe nails!

My friends and I attended the Greater Boston Wine Festival yesterday. All but one of us purchased wine from this winery. Everyone that did purchased the Chocolate Raspberry «Diva» which was pretty good.
We bought and PAID for our wine and were given our vouchers to pick up our bottles at the end of the festival. However, when the time came to pick them up, we were told that they had sold out.
When we walked back to the place where this winery’s table was, we discovered that they were already packed up and were ready to drive off. My friend asked who was in charge, the lady who had poured for us became hostile and defensive. My friend (who is not one to tolerate dishonesty or BS) told her that there were no more bottles of wine, the woman shrugged and told us that we should have picked up our wine when we first bought them.
Now, the voucher system is in place so that patrons aren’t wandering around toting multiple full bottles of wine and can pick up ALL their bottles at the end of the festival. Makes sense, no? Apparently not to this rocket scientist. :/​
In any event, instead of apologizing and offering to rectify the situation, this person (who identified herself as the owner of the winery) made multiple excuses, ranging from «I’ve been here all day» (as if a full day’s work explains downright rudeness and abysmal customer service) to, «We had an entire case of wine stolen» (while she implicated the festival employees).
Eventually, and after having to be PROMPTED several times, this woman offered to refund two of the bottles my friend purchased. The kicker? My friend had purchased THREE bottles, as was reflected on the voucher. The winery owner angrily refunded the last bottle but only after it was demanded of her.
Dear winery owner, if indeed that’s what you are: Here is a tip from a long-​time consumer and from someone who TEACHES entrepreneurship: CUSTOMER SERVICE WILL MAKE OR BREAK YOUR BUSINESS. What you should have done was offer your sincerest apologies and offer to either ship the bottles free of charge or refund the money immediately and without prompting.
I strongly suspect that one of three things happened. Either they indeed had a case stolen (in which case WHY would you simply drive off without making sure that your customers weren’t refunded?) or they need a remedial math class in order to better take inventory. (Hint: 1+1=2, n’est-ce pas?) The third, and most likely, in my opinion, is that they were simply greedy and decided to pocket the money (and drive away with it) before their customers could be the wiser. I think this woman thought that because it was a wine tasting, their customers would be rendered witless by the wine, as she accused my friend of being. (Although my friend quite upset, she was nowhere NEAR intoxicated as she was the designated driver. I am also an ex-​cop, so I am hyper-​aware of signs of intoxication and would most certainly not been a passenger in her car if she had been.)
If possible, I would give this winery a negative rating.

Came here with four friends, and despite coming in with a completely open mind, we were all appalled. $ 5 gets you a tasting of five wines out of a selection of about 15, so between us we tasted the majority of the list.
The dry white I started with was ok– not particularly good or interesting, but quite drinkable. However, all the wines we tasted afterwards were uniformly terrible: extremely sweet (think candy flavored wine) with strange aftertastes. We also tried the mulled wine (again, too sweet and not at all good; I have had better mulled wine made at home from $ 5 bottles) and the sangria (truly bizarre, tasted like cleaning fluid). The two reds on offer were again too sweet. We did not finish most of our tasting portions.
This was unquestionably the worst wine tasting experience any of us have ever had. Stay away.

This place was love at first sight…
It is cozy, quaint and relaxing. Several different rooms and a back deck. Staff was exceedingly helpful by phone and while we were there. Very fun, very entertaining personalities. We both had a full wine tasting and the result was a box full of wine to take home.
Favorites: pumpkin frost and peach.
I Loved about ½ of their 17 wines. Some, not so much but it is all a matter of taste.
While I would probably not download mp3’s of folk or jazz (more of an upbeat, bass girl…), The Bee’s Knees band (accordion included) was a festive addition to the winery and we enjoyed them.
Looking forward to going back occasionally.

This was a great outing with a friend last Sunday afternoon. We got there and Craig (I think that was his name… this is the name tag he was wearing), was FABULOUS. We tasted some very interesting wines including cranberry, pear, cherry, apple, blueberry, also a great red wine and some pumpkin too! We ended up getting some cran-​cinn goat cheese and crackers to munch on. This was a GREAT afternoon. I can’t wait to bring more people here :) I ended up purchasing a bottle of cranberry and red rooster. The red rooster is a light red… so yummy! They served it chilled and room temp so you can see the difference. They also had their mulled wine hot. It definately warmed you up! If you are near this area. I say GO! Plus there is a huge foot in the parking… get spot for photo ops :)

I came here last month for a bridal shower and was pleased all around. The building is an old farm building, there are flies and open doors. fire places.that type of thing. Everything is dark wood. It was a very country feel. The bridal shower was located in a room inside the main building. It was a small room, they provided us chairs, we provided food… so I don’t know if they ever provide food… prob not?
There were two people working that day, one guy and one woman. They were great, the guy especially. He was so entertaining. We all got to choose between trying 3 wine samples or having one glass of wine. A lot of people ended up buying a glass or buying a bottle, which were all very reasonably priced!!! I decided to try the three. I have seen a lot of complaints about the fruity wine… but this is what I LOVE.
1^st I had the peach wine. It was great. It really tasted like peaches and was smooth
2^nd I had the blueberry wine, this was realllllly good. It was a white wine but had a blue tint and you could tell it was made with real blueberries. yum.
3^rd I had the pear wine and I really enjoyed that as well.
They offered crackers while tasting and they were so friendly. My Nana and I stood at the counter just chatting with the guy pouring the wine for a half an hour. It was like he was part of our family or something. Overall I really enjoyed coming here and would love to come back! I also heard its great to come when its a little chilly out and sit by the fireplace enjoying some wine… I think I will be back for that!

The old farm building was cool — it was originally in the Quabbin before it was flooded, and then reconstructed.
As for the wines, it’s for those that like fruity white wine. I’m a red wine drinker, myself, and I wanted to like the wines (because it’s a local business). All of the wines were fruity, most were sweet, and although some were packed with flavor, I found them to be lacking in body. Even their Sangria, which they claim to have a hard time keeping in stock, had a smell of cleaning solvent and tasted like bad kool-​aid with a kick. For those of us that had the privilege of having true sangria in Spain, this was an insult to the term «sangria».
If you’re a casual white wine drinker, this winery would be perfect for you. For those of us that like red wines (even the light red wines like a Pinot Noir), I’d pass this winery up and continue down to the Spirit Haus to get a quality bottle.
Tastings are $ 5 that includes little sips of 5 different (of their appx 15) or so wines. Also comes with a complimentary wine glass. Bottles of wines range from $ 10 — 15.

This is a great place to visit. The tastings are generously hosted by the nicest people who will be pouring some great fruit wines and grape varietals. You can also order up a nice cheese plate or create your own!
They have a deck for enjoying a glass or bottle of wine or if the weather is not favorable there are many spaces inside.
Check this place out as its definitely worth it for a relaxing afternoon of wine.
