The chinese takeout staples I ordered, General Tso’s and sesame chicken were excellent. Very nice employees compared to most other chinese takeout joints in the area!

Tastes good and is authentic. Well presented. Usually packed with nearby students. Prices a little high but reasonable. Got in and out quickly.

An ok place for authentic Sichuan Chinese food, sometimes food is too spicy or salty, but overall it’s good to enjoy with family and friends.

Depending on where one resides in WNY, it’s almost safe to say Chinese food joints are ubiquitous. Pizza and wings, dentists and Chinese food. We have plenty. So imagine my surprise and excitement after trying stumbling upon and consuming some common American/chinese favorites. Chicken fried rice and hot sour soup. I’ve driven passed this place a bazzion times.. Never gave it a second look. Another Chinese restaurant. There are probably 10 places closer to my house. I stopped out of necessity. Near starvation. The food I ordered was amazing. AMAZING! I’ll be back every time I crave Chinese. Prob once a week. The taste of the soup became almost addictive. Slurp after slurp. Ok ordering again tonight.

All in all, this place is about what you’d expect for a plaza-located Chinese take out restaurant. The food itself is pretty good. I’ve eaten at several(most?) of the comparable local Chinese restaurants, and I will honestly admit that there’s a pretty consistent taste and quality between all of them. It’s almost like they all connect to the same kitchen. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing though! I’m a pretty open minded eater, but I’ll admit that when it comes to Chinese food, I tend to stick to the more«well known» menu items. All of these are definitely satisfactory at China Star. The same is true of portion size. Any combo meal or individual entrée that I’ve had here have been enough to give me the food baby feeling of remorse after gorging myself. The location is pretty convenient, especially if you live in Amherst/Snyder like I do. Prices are about what you would expect for Chinese. Not the cheapest take out option, but not expensive. One word of advice when eating here– or any Chinese take out restaurant– lunch combo prices are WAY cheaper than dinner.

Went for lunch. Mapo tofu tasted like Korean red pepper powder and hot and sour soup was spicy but had no notes of sourness, and lacked salt and complexity in the flavoring.

I would say they are the most authentic Chinese restaurant in Buffalo! I always order Chongqing Chicken and Hot and Sour Soup, they are very tasty. If you are a fan of the authentic Chinese food, this is definitely the place for you to try !

Decided on this place for dinner… now I wish we went somewhere else. Not a fan of what is offered for the price you have to pay. Definitely won’t ever come back here.

We had eaten here this past summer and really enjoyed the food, so we were so disappointed two days ago when we placed a take out order for four people and were served a chicken dish with very little chicken and huge pieces of celery and dried chilies. Our beef dish had more short rib bones than beef, lacked flavor and was just plain bad. We called to complain and just got excuses, so needless to say, we will not be returning.

My favorite dish is Ma Po Tofu, of course that’s what I ordered. I wasn’t disappointed to say the least. The spice level was actually really enjoyable. The sauce was a nice consistency. The portion was okay, compared to other restaurants. The tofu was the only thing that was displeasing. All in all good place to eat!

If u are a big fan of spicy food, u def. need to try it here. Very original chinese spicy food. That’s why they always have a lot of chinese students and people eating there. Tasted just like home food. Just like japanese restaurant if they have a lot of japanese students and japnese, that mean the food remind them of home. The owner is very friendly, always asked people hows the food and stuff.

I just signed up an account to score this restaurant. I often visit it because of its taste. But I don’t think I would go there again. Today is actually my birthday, I’ glad to order its food and then take home to celebrate with my family. I don’t hope it will come a discount(it never happened even you are an old customer), but its total price is larger than menu’s. This is the first time I calculate the price, I usually directly pay what they count for me. Even worse, its owner still let me pay her price after I argued. When I said today is my birthday, she just said Chinese restaurant won’t celebrate birthday… This all just makes me so angry. Not only this time, their service is terrible. I strongly suggest people don’t go to this restaurant. A good restaurant should respect customers, but it doesn’t.

China star used to be a good place if you like hot spicy food. But now their foods are not fresh, service was bad and may steal tips from you.

This one is the best Sichuan food taken in USA. The chef keep the original Sichuan spicy taste. Also the boss and servers here are very friendly. Hope there will be such kind of restaurant in Baltimore!

I’ve tried giving this place a shot a couple of times now in hopes that it would get better, but it’s just ‘meh’ to me. The chicken has an odd, mushy texture to it and the spices are just not there. I’ve also been frustrated lately that they will no longer let me choose between white or fried rice with my meal.(I used to be able to order fried rice but now they have changed it to white rice only with a meal.) Sorry, China Star; I tried, but I’m moving on.

Did you know that when you kneel down in a puddle of Chai tea, you get«Chai Knees.» In fact this concept led to the naming of an entire nationality and Cuisine. That cuisine is known as «Russian.» Hmm. I’ve been to China Star about 5 times. A few were back in the day when I lived nearby. Only twice recently did I come here and both times it was a horrendous experience. Awful fried rice, awful spring rolls, awful General Tso’s… awful service, too. The cheap-ish prices are okay but why pay anything for stuff that tastes this bland or bad. I was last here about a year ago. This is probably my least favourite Chinese place in town. I don’t really like the food, the rice tastes kind of hard and old(at least it did when I got it), and to make matters worse, I do believe I lost my cellphone in the parking lot of this place. It’s one thing to lose your cellphone for a delicious, memorable meal that makes it almost worth it. But this one? Grr.

Came here for lunch with Betty, the Mother-In-Law and two of Betty’s college friends. The space was small and typical of a no frills Chinese restaurant. Here they specialize in Szechuan cuisine. The food was amazing and they had a lot of specials on the specials board. All of the items were written in chinese though so I needed to have the manager translate and he did the best he could. Between the Five of us we each ordered a different dish and added on a couple other goodies like sliced pigs ear. While the pigs ear was not something I would crave for, it was fun to try once and the flavor was very good. The tea tree mushroom dish was everyone’s favorite. It had smoky sliced pork belly goodness to go with earthy tea tree mushrooms that were delicious. The Ma Pao Tofu was well executed as well. I found the sliced cucumber dish waaaay too salty though. Considering all the food we ordered $ 104 after tip was fairly reasonable. I would definitely hit this place up when in the Buffalo area again. Hopefully it’s still open at that point.
