I travel to Buffalo quite a bit for work. This was my first visit to Kyoto. The atmosphere is very nice. They have a decent bar, which is where I planted myself. The sushi is reasonably priced(I ordered a la cart) and very good!

I go to Kyoto annually to celebrate my friend’s birthday. It’s always a fun time getting hibachi, the chefs are entertaining and will get your group engaged. The prices are also fair for the amount of food you get. They also have a full bar that offers an array of beautiful drinks, including a flaming one. There’s a lot on the menu and the quality of the food is pretty good but I’m docking stars for a few reasons: 1. They’re not good at accommodating allergies and are actually rude about it. I heard a women at our table tell the waitress ahead of time about her shell fish allergy but they threw the shrimp appetizer onto her plate anyway. When she asked for a new dish to be prepared separately in the kitchen, the waitress started scolding her and said that she would have to pay for 2 meals. Not only a bad experience for that woman, but it also interrupted the great time our party of 6 was having. 2. Compared the the rest of the restaurant, the bathrooms need some maintenance. The toilet paper holder was half missing in the woman’s bathroom and it just didn’t seem that clean. 3. They no longer take reservations, just«call aheads» so our group had to wait at the bar with about 15 other people until we got our table over a half hour later. 4. Told our chef that it was our friends birthday(the one we come every year to celebrate) and she didn’t get the«Happy birthday» song and cake like everyone else. :( Not sure if we’ll come back next year, but I’ll leave that up to her.

Love this place mostly because of the staff. I came here for hibachi dinner on a Friday night. It wasn’t crowded so we were escorted to a table immediately. We started off with some drinks. I shared the scorpion bowl with two other girls. Taste wise– it was alright. But it’s such a fun drink! It’s lit on fire before it arrives to the table. I’ve had the Bahama Mama and Sexy Lady before and those are probably one of the best drinks. I had the shrimp and steak dinner with rice. Comes with a shrimp appetizer(which is just two shrimps) and vegetables. It’s good but not worth the $ 25 – 30. Nothing special for the price but the hibachi show is worth it. I wouldn’t come here for a regular outing but for celebrations, this is the place to be. The chef puts on a fantastic show. Everyone always end up having a great time!

Kyoto is one of my favorite places to go to for sushi or hibachi. All of the sushi is fresh and I really love their specialty rolls. I really enjoy the rainbow, spider, and dancing lobster rolls. However my absolute favorite roll to get at Kyoto is the Rock’n Roll roll. It has a combination of shrimp tempura and spicy tuna on the inside and it is delicious! I also enjoy their classic rolls as well, such as, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and sea scallop surprise. The fish always tastes fresh and the presentation is always beautiful. Hibachi is always fun if you’re going out with a group of friends or for a special occasion. The food is cooked right in front of you from start to finish by one of their hibachi chefs. It’s actually quite entertaining and they’re always so funny. The chefs always make sure to get the guests involved, whether its flinging broccoli at you to catch in your mouth or squirting sake into your mouth. The hibachi entrées come with soup and salad, your choice of noodles or fried rice, and then your choice of meat. I usually choose the filet mignon and chicken combo but sometimes I like to mix it up and order the scallops. The food always tastes amazing. If you don’t have time watch the chefs make your food and enjoy the entire hibachi experience, you can still order hibachi entrees at a regular table. Aside from sushi and hibachi, Kyoto also offers kitchen entrees such as various teriyaki dishes. Their specialty drinks are also delicious. I would highly recommend coming to Kyoto whether its just for sushi or hibachi dinner. The prices are very reasonable and the service is always great!

Had two bad experiences here; I had hoped to chalk up the first one to their staff having a bad day, but twice seems more than coincidental. First, the food is good at this hibachi-type grill. It’s pretty standard and is comparable to most other places where you sit in front of the chef and they chop and cook the food in front of you. No complaints there, nothing incredible, but pretty good. But the service here is atrocious. Both times my party was told the wait was 30 minutes, and both times we’ve been kept waiting over two hours. Second, both times we were rushed out of the restaurant by our waiters, clearly itching to shuffle in more patrons. I understand that turnover is essential to maximize profits, but they were plain rude, we were ordering a LOT of food and drinks, and we were not there particularly long. Lastly, the second most recent time they told us there were no desserts that could be ordered but we got the feeling that they simply wanted to hurry us out. Overall their staff(waiters/waitresses/manager) have been pretty rude with exception of the chefs. I will never go here again and I strongly recommend that others avoid it too. If polite service is even moderately important to you, do not go! Their staff will turn what should be an enjoyable experience with family and friends into an experience that has been tainted by their poor attitude and service.

Nothing’s bad but nothing’s wow either. Interior design is quite nice though. Bathrooms are extremely clean. Sushi is okay. Menu is basically anywhere you can find. But it definitely doesn’t taste bad.

This is your average hibachi restaurant. The food was good but the chef didn’t seem interested in cooking that night so the show wasn’t anything special. I’m glad that I was there for the food and good company since the show wasn’t up to par with what I’ve seen at other hibachi restaurants.

It’s was my girlfriends birthday and I decide to bring to her try the hibachi here. Food was good but the portion size they serve was just too little. The meal come with appetizer which was literally 2 piece of shrimp. I can go to any mall and get the same meal with larger portion that will cost me less then 15 buck for sure.

Always a great time at Kyoto. Super fun atmosphere, especially when you go with a group. The staff if always friendly and the chefs are entertaining. It always amazes me how they can keep the orders straight when they are cooking, throwing broccoli, and shooting saki at a table of 9 people! In addition to the show the food is tasty and you get A LOT of bang for your buck. The hibachi dinners are in the mid $ 20 range and come with soup, salad, rice or noodles and your choice of protein cooked to order. Birthdays, ladies nights, after work, family dinner or any time you have a group of folks check this place out.

This was not my first hibachi experience, however, it was fun when I went with a group of friends. It’s also not favorite hibachi in the city(check my reviews for another location) but for what it is… its pretty decent. The atmosphere seems to always be busy and upbeat on the weekends. This place lacks in flavor for me. Maybe bc they do low seasoning to satisfy a majority of everyone’s taste… idk… the performance is mediocre. I’ve seen much better.

Too expensive for the portion sizes. It seems that for the cost you don’t get enough food. Our chef wasn’t very engaging as the other chef was and the guests at the other tables seemed more excited than we were. Why so stingy with the rice? I’ve been here a few times and each time I come, my experience diminishes. Won’t be back.

Service is alright the food came out fast but the fish they use in the sushi is NOT fresh at all. I ordered the spicy tuna roll and you can tell they used frozen tuna. Gross texture and smell never coming here again. Would not recommend.

Love love love the sashimi bar. Awesome food — temperature on the fish is perfect for great shashimi! Bar chefs complete the awesome experience — they rock. Come here solo or in a group — awesome every time! Chefs Leo and Howard are worth coming to the sushi bar alone not to mention the hibachi! They truly make your meal their art.

I just had dinner there this evening with a large party of eleven people. The service was mediocre at best and the food was ok. It’s all over priced and you’re obviously paying for the show. This was my first time at this particular restaurant but I’ve had far better experiences at similar restaurants. When my group and I left, in haste I left my take out container and when I returned for it 5 minutes later it had been thrown away. The manager offered me a $ 5 gift card. Really??? I just paid $ 77.95 and you can’t hold on to my carton of food for 5 minutes when I waited 30 minutes for a drink? Unreal! I do not recommend this restaurant at all.

Me and my date came here on a Friday night after work. She chose the place because we both love sushi but she wanted to have the option to get hibachi if she wanted. I love eating sushi but, I’m far from a sushi connoisseur. I don’t know every fish, flavor, and texture but I try. So, a lot of sushi menus tend to be over whelming. Which was good that Kyoto offers the chefs special sushi platter starting at 35. You give them a price point and the chef will get you sushi and sashimi worth that much. Ive never done something like this before and I was pleasantly surprised when the good came out. I was worried that it would just be 3 or 4 expensive rolls without enough food to fill you up. But the plate came out with a ton of sushi and sashimi of different tyoes. It was amazing. Easy for 2 of us to dig into, enjoy different textures and flavors and leave full! The service, was great and the venue was clean. I want to go back and checkout their hibachi. Unfortunately, their drink prices were a tad steep, comparatively. And their seats were awkward and uncomfortable. But other than these slight gripes… A great time.

Have been here for numerous birthday parties because everyone loves to do their birthdays at Hibachi spots. They are pretty accommodating for large groups as I had a party of 20 for my birthday, and the chefs keep the crowd entertained. The hibachi food is pretty basic, tastes like every other hibachi restaurant so nothing spectacular. Pretty expensive for buffalo standard, but worth it for the experience !

Let me just say that being a vegetarian(and speaking for fellow ones out there) we don’t get a lot of options when it comes to sushi and hence there are no «stars» that fairly rate any good Japanese joint. Because every roll is the same regardless of where you eat. That being said, I liked Kyoto. It’s a massive place, very unlikely of a Japanese/Hibachi place. I’m talking 20 seater Hibachi stations. We walked in there for sushi and sake and sat at the bar. I’m an avid sushi eater and usually like sitting there because I like conversing with the sushi chef and expanding my knowledge on this ancient«art» of sushi. The chef was really nice and lively. Very positive vibes. He made us the special and a little extra. The rolls were well balanced on the palate, rice was perfectly cooked but not too hard. The seaweed wrap was not chewy but very fresh. Overall a really good experience.

When this place first opened, my friends and I were all shocked by how poorly priced everything was. Expensive and mediocre. I didn’t come back for another two years and when I did, my experience was terrible. I even requested to speak to the manager. I didn’t come back again until the beginning of 2014 to give it another try. Obviously things have changed since my first two horrible visits. I made a habit of coming once a week when I was still living in the area. I liked coming here for the three roll lunch special. The sushi quality is pretty good for the area. I’m surprised there wasn’t more foot traffic since it’s really close to UB, supermarkets, and the mall. It’s usually just a table for one and a book to keep me company when I come. Because I’m by myself, the waitresses check in on me more frequently. The service is pretty good that way. The interior of the restaurant is very nice. Nice traditional Japanese vibe.

It’s no Benihana, but it’s alright. It’s not bad, I just prefer Benihana’s fried rice and their salad dressing. Their sushi is really good and they have a really nice presentation. Desserts are good and inexpensive; fried banana, deep fried ice cream, mochi, green tea ice cream. It’s all good!

Came in for restaurant week on a Thursday night. It was not very crowded. We opted to forego the hibachi table and strangers for a booth. I have to say the booth was extremely uncomfortable with the bench too low and table too high/far away. Restaurant week featured an appetizer and entrée for $ 20.14. I got the pork dumplings which were standard and my wife got a California roll which was also standard. Soup was included with the appetizers, we both got hibachi soup which was average I suppose maybe a little less than. I got the steak hibachi dinner medium rare which came out medium and was unseasoned. Only chopsticks were on the table and I was not offered a fork which I kind of thought was a thing of the past. It was difficult to eat my rice with just the chopsticks as I’m not all that experienced with them. My wife got 2 more rolls, the Christmas tree roll which was alright and another one wrapped in lettuce which was surprisingly good. The service was not very good. Drinks took a while to come as did the check and to go box. House red was behringer which is more or less a joke, even funnier was the $ 7.5/glass price tag. I honestly won’t bother coming back here and wouldn’t recommend to a friend. Simply put, there are cheaper, better options within a short drive. This place just isn’t really worth it.
