What a great value! Free salad/nacho bar with great salsas. Better than average beer prices, and very good food! Give this place a shot, you’ll like it

Wow. It’s hard to put in words. HUGE burritos. Meat was great, sweet and tangy. A great medley of favors. Oh and it all comes with complimentary salad bar. Soup and tortilla chips and salsa. I’ll be back for sure. But come hungry. In fact come for lunch and plan on skipping dinner.

Ok… I’ve eaten here two times now. First time was interesting. So many conflicting tastes here. You get a basket of chips with very garlicky salsa on the side, a bowl of asian egg flower soup, and they have what they call a salad bar, but its really just lettuce, and condiments for your meal. We ordered the Ronnie Taco’s. Which came with three tacos with like bulgogl type meat in them, and a side of vegetable tempura with one piece of shrimp tempura, and a side of rice and beans. It was A LOT of food! The tacos’ were interesting, and honestly not bad, but it was just such a crazy mix of different flavors… Mexican, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese, that it was almost overkill and just impossible to really reconcile with ones taste buds. I left shaking my head and really undecided about what I thought. I did like the tempura, and the tacos were different for sure, but ok. Went here with my son again last night. Same routine… soup, chips, lettuce. This time we ordered the Mexican bibimbap. Bi bimbap is a korean dish, usually served with rice, bulgolgi type meat, and a lot of banchan vegetables. It’s one of my favorites. This was much like a taco salad. It has spanish rice on the bottom, beans, bulgogli meat, lettuce, cilantro, and cheese. I personally didn’t really care for it, and while the bowl was again huge, it was mostly unfulfilling and not a place I feel I will be coming back too. It’s all just too weird, and random for me.

A man cannot go through life without trying new things and Casa certainly qualifies. Casa takes classic Mexican dishes and throws in Asian elements to mix things up a bit. The question is, Should they? I had the Ronnie Tacos which is essentially Mongolian beef in corn tortillas like a Taco. Unique as it is it just didn’t leave me satisfied with the fusion choice. My wife had the Bulgogi Quesadilla and it was a little better but still ended up on the sweet side. So food wise it was a little lacking. On a positive note the music, service and atmosphere are wonderful. Soft Jazz with dim lighting made for a relaxing tone. I think this food is probably for a lot of adventurous diners. Just not for me.

The Asian/Mexican mashups at this place blew my mind, it’s awesome! I had a burrito filled with spicy Korean pork(list price: $ 14). Did it come with chips and salsa? Yes. But it also came with egg drop soup! Did it come with rice and beans? Yes. But it also came with tempura prawns! This place is crazy. Crazy like a fox. It also has a salad/sauce bar which takes things up a notch. You want wasabi mayo in your refried beans?(You do.) Sour cream, teriyaki sauce, and habanero salsa with that next bite? Do it! The staff is friendly and the décor is incomprehensible. I used a Groupon to get half off. I don’t think I’d be as happy if I paid full price, but this was an incredible experience for a $ 7 burrito party in my mouth. See pics.

Mexican-Asian fusion. It was good, not great. I ordered the beef enchiladas with chicken teriyaki. I certainly liked the egg drop soup and the salsa. The chips were awful, I’m starting to think every place in Anchorage gets their chips from Sam’s club. The salsa selection was great, and I could tell the habanero salsa actually had a little bit of habanero in it. Service was spot-on, but I mean there were only three tables with customers, so that was really just meeting expectations. As for the entrée… The menu says to expect different tastes because while the dish composition is Mexican, the meat and some of the other stuff is done Asian style. I don’t know what kind of Asian food inspired the beef I had in the enchilada, but I’m not a fan. Just kind of dry and chunky. The chicken teriyaki was quite good, as well as the rice and beans. Oh and the menu says nothing about pico de gallo, but it’s on there. I hate pico, scraped it off easy enough though. I’ll have to give this place another shot with a different entrée.

I went here with a friend a few weeks back and had a great time with some misses. Hits: Huge portions, I had enough for a second meal which is a rarity for me. The servers were super nice, speedy, but also were patient when my friend and I wanted to take time with the menus and chat post-dinner. Spicy pork: tender and flavorful, not as spicy as I would like(I’ll admit, I’ll have a high spice tolerance), but this leaves me to another hit: the salsa bar had peppers, and once I doctored up my burrito it hit my spice needs. Another hit: the pre-dinner egg-flower soup, I thought the cilantro was a nice touch. Misses: The spicy pork burrito as a whole; it was chock-full of bell peppers that I didn’t feel added much to the dish. Additionally, some of the salsas were rather bland. All in all, a very tasty/interesting meal, Casa just has a few kinks to work out.

I wanted to like this place. Large and interesting menu, salad bar included with your meal and the food had a very nice presentation… Looked delicious. Sadly, it was not as good as it looked. I had the carne asada burrito which had a strange sweet flavor to it. My daughter had the chicken teriyaki burrito which had no flavor at all and was all thigh meat. The food was plentiful, but we didn’t care for it.

This is the first time, fellow Unilocalers, I have felt led astray by a place’s reviews. I live on the east side and had seen CASA, bookmarked CASA, and genuinely got excited to go and try CASA(so much so that we made a night of it for«family dinner» with my roommates). But my excitement, and sadly, trust in a 4-star Unilocal status, were misplaced. Dubbed and Asian-Mexican fusion, CASA is a pagoda style building with a bold Mexico flag on the outside. The décor inside was Asian inspired. We sat in the dining room, as the bar was housed separately and empty at the time(an earlyish 6pm dinner on a Saturday night). The light jazz/elevator music and relative emptiness in the dining room made us feel like we needed to talk in hushed tones, for fear of upsetting someone’s ancient ancestors. Our waitress was a tag-team duo and both were sufficiently friendly and helpful. The«complimentary salad bar» was a bizarre ensemble of ice berg lettuce, various salsas and hot sauces, pickled jalapeños, pineapples, black olives, and mandarin orange slices. That is all. Oh, and your choice of dressing: ranch, or a watered down version of the perennial ginger dressing. The yakitori appetizer was flavorful, but the cut of chicken included tendons, making it a little chewy. The nachos were small, but tasty. Our entrees were a strange and complicated mess. I ordered a Ronnie chicken burrito, I didn’t know what«Ronnie style» was, and the waitress informed us it was a sauce like that on Mongolian beef. Other members of my party ordered: the same but with steak, a steak teriyaki burrito, and the spicy pork fajitas. When they came to the table, she auctioned off the chicken burrito, which I accepted. Halfway through, we realized she had switched to two and I had the beef. An understandable mistake, since the proteins are tucked away inside, but also confusing how she was so certain mine was chicken but still so wrong. The steak teriyaki burrito was the only entrée that was enjoyed. I will say – the portions are large and the side of tempura is a generous offering. Unfortunately, we left our entrees mostly uneaten and made a sad, disheartening stop at Taco Bell on the way home.

Asian-Mexican Fusion food is very interesting! I have come here twice now and I live on the other side of town :) I tried the Ronnie’s tacos and the server suggested spicy, they were way to spicy for me so she ended up taking them off the check, as I was full from my moms fried rice(HUGEPORTION, enough for 3 – 4 people for sure). The fried rice was delicious. I have also had the mexican sushi which was good and the chicken terryaki burrito(forgot the name) and it was pretty good. My hubby had the bulgogi taco/burrito that was very good. This place gets five stars for anchorage, i’ve only seen one other place that could compare for cuisine and I have not tried them yet. So, yes five stars! The interior is very well decorated. This could be a date night kindof place! They are wheelchair accessible :)

This was our first time there and wasn’t impressed. I got the Ronnie chicken burrito and it was VERY salty. It was probably due to the fact it had too much sauce mixed in with the chicken. My wife got the bimbimbop Mexican style with no egg on it and she looked sad so brought it home and ate it for her. It was mostly just rice mixed in with steak and veggies in a bowl. I liked it better than the salty burrito. I’ll give it another try but I will not get the same stuff. I like the idea of this place but just didn’t like the damn salty burrito. Service was ok at best. We had to wait for our ticket for about 10 – 15 mins.

I have taken advantage of the food here twice with the use of groupons, but I have found that the food and service is worth full price. The complimentary salad bar is fairly rudimentary, but it’s also very fresh and includes both Mexican and Asian type accompaniments to the iceberg lettuce. Upon ordering, complimentary egg drop soup + chips and salsa show up. You may be full before your entrée even arrives. The fusion part may not be fully integrated in every entrée item, but it’s a fun collaboration and the portion sizes are very big. Both times I have gotten the special — spicy tofu & chicken fajita plate for 16.95. A semi-spicy/sweet Asian marinade is tossed with grilled chicken thigh, lightly battered tofu, peppers, onions and fresh tomato. I would normally not pay that kind of money for lunch, but this meal easily stretches into 2, if not 3, meals(plus, the groupon makes me extravagant). I found the Asian marinade sauce to be a little heavy handed, so I asked for that to be backed off in the last preparation. The meal overall was quite delicious! Service is prompt and enthusiastic. I will be returning!

Really enjoyed this place. Thank god Muldoon is wising up and opening some restaurants that serve tasty food. Entrees are 10 – 13 bucks. Food is very flavorful with nice portion sizes. Our server was polite and magnificent and was able to recommend a delicious beer to go with the meal. Will absolutely go back. Avoid the Mexican sushi appetizer– it was mediocre but I do recommend the chicken taco salad. Very flavorful and delicious.

I really wanted to like this place, but when I heard from some co-workers that the place missed the mark on attempting fusion, and after reading other Unilocalers reviews I knew that I should stick to Ronnie and Ronnie 2 for their take on sushi, and avoid this place, but alas we were taken here for a meal and well… It felt like it was trying to reinvent fusion food without following any of the established rules. First of all, don’t try to reinvent the Korean taco. Just keep it simple and give me what I’d expect from a food truck,(ie. Bulgogi, cabbage and a soy lime dressing.) When I asked the server if the Korean tacos had slaw she was confused. I explained that I meant cabbage and they didn’t have any cabbage. It’s kinda weird that a Korean restaurant in a state known for root vegetables wouldn’t have cabbage on their Korean tacos, but… So, I ordered the Dwaejibulgogi(spicy pork) burrito as that seemed to be the preferred choice of other reviewers. In the meantime, we received egg drop soup with cilantro in it. I love egg drop soup, but the cilantro ruined it. The chips were good, but the salsa had an overwhelming taste of tomato sauce. I felt like I was in college again and my roommate tried to make me salsa with 3 items or less. So, I took a trip to the salsa bar. No kimchi. Okay, no problem, let’s find another salsa. They all tasted the same other than the salsa verde which might have been really good if it wasn’t so watery even after stirring. The spicy salsa was pretty mild, and oddly the track lighting was positioned at a really strange angle so that the sneeze guard reflected the light as you reached for the back row salsas. I ordered horchata and it was tasted watered down, so it was passable at first until the ice started to melt. I got the burrito and the menu doesn’t indicate it is a smothered burrito, but luckily I had read the reviews and knew what to expect. Unfortunately, it had the same tomato sauce tasting salsa which also got into the tempura. Ketchup soaked tempura isn’t my thing. I tried eating the burrito as a whole but it just didn’t work. I did really enjoy cutting away the tortilla and eating the spicy pork. When I think of a Korean burrito I’d expect kimchi fried rice, sour cream, maybe more kimchi and vegetables like cucumber, bean sprouts and pickled daikon. As far as atmosphere, they did a good job of taking a creepy building in a creepy part of Muldoon and making a nice interior, albeit a bit awkward and with almost no exterior light. The taxidermy across from a Mexican blanket with acoustic guitars, a cowboy hat and boots nailed to the wall was out of place from the rest of the décor. Also, the men’s bathroom was tight and whoever did the wall tiling didn’t finish the job well. The service though. Our server was great, and it reminded me of what I’d expect from Ronnie or Ronnie 2. It strangely made me wish I was down the road getting an open your mouth roll again. Ronnie and Ronnie 2 have done a great job of making Korean fusion sushi accessible to Anchorage, but I really wish that they had stuck to the fundamentals of fusion food rather than reinventing the wheel. I love Korean fusion food — bulgogi bakes at Costco in Seoul rather than chicken bakes at the food court, sweet potato mash on pizza, French style bakeries with red bean, cali style Korean tacos and burritos — I just think this went a step too far and would return if they completely revamped their menu, but otherwise if I want Korean fusion in Anchorage I’ll stick to Ronnie and Ronnie 2 and anything I can get from the food trucks.

I really liked this place. The Mexican-Asian fusion thing may be weird to some people, which could explain how salsas taste different and preparation is strange. But I don’t understand why people are returning food that is obviously Asian-marinated — it says it right on the menu that they marinate their meats in Asian sauces, not Mexican. You’re going to a place that is not advertised as an authentic Mexican restaurant, so don’t be expecting that. The inside of the restaurant has had some definite TLC in it – totally redone, painted, decorated, flat-screen TVs, everything. It’s impressive, as I did not expect such a nice interior. Like typical Ronnie service, there was only one server at the time we went, but luckily it wasn’t too busy. We ordered the fried tofu for an app — good, but I wished it was crispier. Our meals were pork enchiladas and vegetarian burrito. Both were generously-sized, with rice, beans, tempura. I thought it was weird to get a shrimp tempura with my vegetarian meal, but my partner didn’t mind eating it for me. The salad bar was a little lacking of substantial toppings — iceberg lettuce, some olives and jalapenos, but about fifteen thousand different salsas and dipping sauces. But you’re probably not going there for a complementary salad bar. I think this is a great place if you’re really hungry and can’t decide if you want Mexican or Asian to satiate that need. The prices are very reasonable for the portions, which is a big plus. As a friend of mine said, «This isn’t my first time here, but it won’t be my last!»

This place is interestingly good, yet slightly confusing! Interesting and confusing because it’s not your typical fusion, its more like Mexican with a side of Asian. I will say the only real fusion thing we tried/saw on their menu was their Mexican sushi! It’s delicious! They fuse the pico, salsa, sour cream with a teriyaki deep fried sushi roll!!! It’s awesome! The start the meal out by bringing out chicken egg drop soup, which tasted like traditional egg drop soup and a thing of chips and salsa. I ordered the Korean Spicy Pork Burrito, this thing was massive and also spicy! The flavors were delicious and the pork was tender. The only thing I didn’t like was the side of tempura. It didn’t really do anything for the meal, expect take up space on the plate. There was no tempura dipping sauce, and no flavor to tie the tempura in with the burrito flavors. It was actually a huge let down, because I really like tempura but sadly only had one bite and didn’t eat the rest. They also have a salsa bar, which has a pretty good selection of different sauces and salsas. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was again, interesting in a tasteful and in some way modern way(Mexican colors and decorations on one wall and the other had Asian decorations).

This place was soooo good! We got: Ronnie Burrito(was easily a 4⁄5 for me!, it is more sweet than spicy FYI) Bulgogi beef burrito(was not as good as the Ronnie, it was not as sweet much more savory, I liked it though!) And ended our meal with: Fried Cheesecake, I would not order this again, it was interesting but why change something that is already so good?! Churro, yummy! Except next time I will ask for no strawberry syrup on it(it did not mesh well with the cinnamon sugar) Complimentary to our dish was: Egg Drop Soup(kinda salty) Chips & Salsa(there’s a salsa bar available at no extra cost) Tempura side(2 sweet potato and 1 shrimp) We will be coming back here for sure! Service was awesome! You have to try the apple vinaigrette sauce that is available at the salsa bar! It’s the best.

CASA Asian Fusion Mexican Restaurant an odd juxtaposition: T’was more like the Hannah Montana(Miley Cyrus) song, «The Best Of Both Worlds» and less like the awkward 1982 Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder’s duet«Ebony and Ivory.» CASA serves a novelty mashup of Korean and Mexican cuisines, and unlike the famed singer songwriters, the twain ought meet again. The experience en masse is best described like the cuisine, a smashup akin to a first class international flight on Asiana Airlines and an economy cattle car domestic flight on Southwest. The portions were sufficient to abate my hanger. Meal service began with a primer, an all-you-can-eat complementary salad buffet that was reminiscent of a first-class flight through the orient. The appetizer and main course was an umami mix of cultures; it gave understanding and meaning to Brangelina’s culturally blended superfamily. Unfortunately, the beer and wine menu was less than celebrity; it was domestic, and appropriately fitting for the trailer court across the street – I die. The ambiance, minus the chopsticks, was analogous to the«Juan and Won» restaurant in Dumb and Dumber II, with added tchotchkes generously placed throughout the restaurant and likely purchased from the«Worldstock» section of . The service was impeccable with a subdued Tiger Mom level attentiveness, and without the bitter clash of cultures. Though only open for two months, CASA Asian Fusion Mexican Restaurant, like the newly en-rage designer Labradoodle, is initially confusing, but will soon trend for it’s irresistible haute crosscuisine.

In the PacNW there has been a recent EXPLOSION of fusion food. And I don’t mean your Daddy’s fusion. I don’t mean«Asian-inspired» food with fancy blue lighting, servers wearing all-black, and ridiculous pricing(burger with tempura crumbles and wasabi ketchup for 19, that sort of thing…). I mean Asian elements intertwined with MEXICAN elements. In the NW this usually consists of a burrito or taco, stuffed with Bulgogi-fied meats, often served out of a truck. It’s good, it’s really good. In what is probably one of Alaska’s first takes on the style: I’m surprised to say, they take the«fusing» up a notch. For starters: you get both chips and salsa AND a tofu soup!(Some people have pointed out to me that this is technically *NOT* fusing. They are probably right, but I like getting TWO things before my meal, and I’ve never seen anything quite like this) There is a really nice sauce bar with a wide variety of Mexican inspired(green, red, habanero) and Asian inspired(Sriracha to wasabi aioli!) condiments to choose from, awesome! I got a spicy pork burrito, it was large, wet, and delicious. These are the type of burritos that must be eaten with fork & knife, unless you’re an even bigger pig than I am. In which case, congrats! It came with two, large, pieces of tempura: shrimp and… I think sweet potato? Ambiance was surprisingly cool. Lots of weird lighting and a darkish atmosphere. All in all, very satisfied. I eat a lot. I’m always hungry. This place filled me up, and I had enough left over to take home. Definitely give them a shot!

A very interesting take on Mexican food I have never heard of before. This is an Asian/Mexican fusion restaurant. So most of the menu is the standard Mexican fare, burritos, enchilada’s, etc. but with an Asian twist, for example, I ordered the teriyaki steak enchilada’s. Enchilada’s served with salsa and drizzled with a sweet sauce that reminded me of soy sauce. The food was very good, and very different. They had ‘Mexican Sushi’ in the appetizers, I didn’t get it this time but will next time. Also ordered the Thai Tea, super yummy, not too sweet, not too strong. The atmosphere was great, they had tv’s with football on but it really felt more like a dating place, quiet, warm and cozy feel. There was also a bar the owner seemed particularly proud of. Prices were average, with a basic dish going from around 12 to 14 bucks. Portions were adequate, they weren’t too big and weren’t too small, they bring out egg drop soup and chips and salsa at the same time! Crazy! I’ll definitely be going back.
