3700 Centerpoint Dr is the anchorage office of Alyeska Pipeline Service Co, which is the non profit organization that operates the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, and transports the oil for the owners from the slope to Valdez. Centerpoint also has Exxon Mobil, Udelhoven, LRS, Nana Worely in the building, as well as other oil and gas companies. TAPS address probably should change since it doesn’t run through this town… Yup, I work in the oil industry…

The Trans-Alaska Pipeline runs 800 miles from Prudhoe Bay(Northern Alaska, in the Arctic) across(under?) Alaska and terminates in Valdez, Alaska. The pipeline was built between 1974 and 1977 in reaction to the 1973 oil crisis that caused petroleum prices to rise. An incredible engineering project, the pipeline crosses some extreme terrain that is very cold and very isolated. Reading through the wikipedia article gave me a lot of insight that I did not know. I was able to visit the pipeline at one of its above ground spots in Fairbanks, at mile marker 450.(Yes, there’s a «450» sign.) Very impressive. You can put your hands right on it and I didn’t feel any vibration and didn’t hear any noise at all.
