Fast service in a wonderful atmosphere with rich food. The food is excellent quality with large portions and most meals come with two sides. The have a fantastic selection of beers and the Hermans know how to do BEER.

Guten Tag! I freakin’ love this place. Granted, I’ve only tried it once but so far so good. There were two of us on a Friday night & the place was packed. To our surprise, there was only one waitress… she did seem a bit overwhelmed but she handled it very well & did get some relief/help from the overwhelmed manager. So, full disclosure, I don’t think anyone is actually German(owners.etc.) except I do know that the one waitress who is originally from Mongolia, is part German & came over from Germany. I grew up eating German food & I frequent Germany often & the one thing Anchorage doesn’t have is a proper German food place. I’m happy this place exists now & hopefully it’ll withstand the test of time. I also like that they went ahead & chose Mountain View. It’s a hard area & to see it packed on a Friday makes me think that people are going outta their way to eat here. I ordered the sauerkraut balls for apps… honestly, didn’t really like them that much, probably should’ve gone with the pretzel but was told they were out. We split two entrees — the curry wurst & the Rahmschnitzel. The curry wurst was OK but I could have used more curry-ketchup sauce. The spaetzle were spot on. I could eat tubs of it. The Rahmschnitzel was delicious, I’ll be ordering more of that next time. I wasn’t sure about the apfelstrudel… not something I would see in Germany. They used that super thin, flaky dough that you see more in mediterranean cooking(is it Filo?) than somewhere in Germany… All in all, it was a really good meal. Portion sizes were perfect but the ultimate kicker was the price. With beers included(and we’re talking about the 1l size mugs), 2 entrees, apps & dessert the bill came to $ 55. In hindsight, she may not have charged us for the app since they forgot it but you get the idea!

Horrible horrible food! I couldn’t eat it! What few bites I could swallow were because of salt pepper and mustard! Bland, tasteless gristle. Never going back. Actually felt sick after leaving.

I really miss great German food. Not anymore, West Berlin has filled that void. I had the Sauerbraten with Sauerkraut and Potato Salad. Each item reminded of a little of a place outside of Mainz called the Wackenhiemerhof. Don’t even get me started on the beer. Try this if you are tired of corporate robot food.

This restaurant is delicious!!! I had the curry sausage sauerkraut snd potatoes and every bite was yummy. I also ordered the potato pancake and this was also delicious BUT the reason for only 2 stars was because the front of house can’t keep up with the back of the house. We waited 25 minutes for a table(which I don’t mind) but there are no chairs or anything so you are literally just standing there when we got seated we didn’t get menus for another 10 or 15 minutes(and me and my friend had to share a menu, we were never brought a second menu) and we were never offered water or to put in a drink order(really decent beer selection is a Plus) also there was no silverware on the table, when our food came we had to ask for utensils. I ordered a beer and a side salad which I never received. So if you plan on eating here during a busy night like Saturday be prepared for terrible service but delicious food! I will def eat here again but prob on a slower night. This place would be better w a busser, food runner, and another waitstaff. Hope they work the kinks out because the food is great! If the service was better this would have been 5 stars.

I had the soft pretzel and the jagerschnitzel with spaetzle and sauerkraut. So good! My BF doesn’t like sauerkraut, he missed out. My only regret was not trying the sauerbraten which was one of the specials tonight. I can’t wait to go back!

I wish more people knew more about this place because it deserves to be packed, constantly. All the food is fresh, including the sausages which are made daily. The sauerkraut is made of red cabbage which is an interesting feature. I don’t like sauerkraut but my husband loved it and said it «blew his mind». Also, getting a pint of Ayinger Celebrator right off the tap was incredible. I wish I lived closer to this place so I could eat their more often.

Very delicious place to eat. The atmosphere was amazing. Felt very warming and welcoming. I didn’t feel out of place or all uptight. The service was phenomenal. Both the lady and the gentleman that helped us were very nice and helpful. Without feeling intrusive, they made our dining experience unforgettable. The food we had was amazing. We had the sauerkraut balls, pretzel, bratwurst and currywurst. Every bit of it was delicious. I will definitely make it a regular place to eat. The deserts were amazing as well. I cannot remember the names of their deserts, but it was delicious.

Love this place. First time had to try different things, so had the curry wurst with fries and rotkohl, and schnitzel with spaetzle and mashed potatoes. Don’t waste your time with the fries unless you’re a kid — probably the only disappointing item on the menu. Now we just get the pretzel appetizer and jägerschnitzel without mushrooms and with spaetzle as the(best) only side. The 5 year old loves the pretzels and currywurst without the curry ketchup. Great German beer selection. And the apfelstrudel is delicious!

Been here twice so far — The first time It was at 745, and they rushed us by telling us the kitchen was about to close — and they were out of half the items. Wasn’t too happy but we decided to try it again — WOW. Great service(not hard to see the owner is very hands on), and the food was SPOTONGREAT. not just some of it, but everything was really good — I was impressed with everything, and I’ll definitely be coming back.

Pretty cool spot! I came close to licking my plate clean, in fact. The location is a little random and the hours are a little bit of a bum out. I came with a large group and though we were seated and served quickly, we were notified that the kitchen was closing at 8pm. WHAT?! Without much time to figure out an order or even decide on getting more food, we all raced to get our food orders in and then hung out over a few beers. The food was great, the atmosphere was a bit lacking, and the feeling of being rushed was a little disappointing. It won’t keep me from coming back though. If you’re a meat and potatoes type — this is your jam — check it out!

I have been here twice. The first time was decent, the second time was terrible. I had the Jaegerschnitzel, it was tough and gristly. The sides were not great either. The potato salad was tasteless, and the so was the red cabbage. Thankfully there were salt and pepper on the table. The food had sit on the counter a bit before it was set in front of us. I say this due to the gravy and meat both being tepid. Drink refills were non existent. Our server was sub par. There will not be a third visit.

My first thought upon walking in here: Wow, Anchorage is lucky to have a place like this! I’ve been meaning to make it down to West Berlin since it opened, and showed up at the bottom of the Unilocal Anchorage splash page under«New Businesses». They still are quite new. First of all, I love the décor. There is a real risk of German joints coming off as kitschy and cheesy. I’m talking about lederhosen and Maß’s bolted against the walls, non-stop accordion music, trite wooden plagues with one-liners about drinking beer, cliché technicolor Oktoberfest photos, that sort of thing. West Berlin has none of that. The space is nice and contemporary with classy accents and great lighting. There’s an attractive, bistro-style cooler in the front showcasing some the fine bottled German beers, nice touch. Our server was very helpful and was knowledgeable about the food and beer. We actually had THREE servers; we were very well taken care of, something I can’t say about too many businesses these days. Orders were taken at tables using tablets, really nice touch! I wish more places had high tech systems like that in place! I guess most folks wouldn’t care about«other people’s systems», but…“I’m a systems guy”…read: I’m a huge dork. Anyway, the food was gorgeous and delicious. The presentation was top-notch, the portions were generous, and the quality didn’t leave me wanting. I got the brisket with cabbage and spaetzel, I’m not an expert on either of those, but they were tasty! Oh, and the beer. They’ve got all the great German beer you would want here. They don’t have EVERYTHING, but they have the major staples covered. The better Munich breweries, Ayinger(best German brewery out there, in my opinion), and even an(organic) Alt beer. We got some bottles, but only because I didn’t notice they had a couple of taps! Oh well, something new to try out next time.

Had the Jagerschnitzel and sauerkraut balls as an appetizer. The food and service were really good even as the restaurant got busier. There was always someone refilling water or asking how the meal was. Definitely will be coming back.

Parking is awful. Not enough spots. No soup of the day No cups with lids for kids They are trying but to survive they need to improve Pretzel appetizer was good. One pretzel was a bit over done(half crunchy) mustard with it hit the spot

West Berlin rocks!!! If you like German food this is a great place to try. I had the Jaegerschnitzel with Spaetzel and Red Cabbage. Also had dessert strudel and vanilla ice cream. The music was great(Paolo Conte) and the service excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I wasn’t wild about this place. It seemed a little«helter skelter» to me. I may be spoiled because I go to Germany on business, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. The owner/server was extremely nice and knowledgeable, and does a good job of working the floor. However, my coworker and I had business to conduct, and it was a little difficult with all the interruptions. We started with some of the sauerkraut balls, and little did I know that would be the culinary highlight of the evening. The menu listed that it came with a honey mustard dipping sauce, but they were out of that, and the substitute mustard was just average. Not the kind of nostril-clearing European mustard I am used to. There was a marinated pork dish on the menu, but it was not available on this night. I went with the jaegerschnitzel and my buddy had the sausage. Both of them were just meh to us. I had spaetzle and sauerkraut as my two sides, and did not finish either. When it came time to pay, we were presented with a check folder embossed with an AMEX logo. We pulled out our company AMEX, but were told that it wasn’t accepted. No big deal, but it was just the icing on the cake of a very disappointing visit.

Yummy! This is what I ordered: Sauerkraut Balls Appetizer Jäger schnitzel entrée(sides were the rotkohl and spaetzal) It was delicious, service was great. I did not favor the spaetzal quite as much as the rotkohl. The appetizer was meh. I loooooved the jäger schnitzel though, the gravy was perfect consistency with sliced mushrooms. I thought I tasted Marsala wine? I will definitely return and try the Kessler or something. The waiter said that they would start a dinner menu which I will patiently await!(He said maybe in a month)
