If I had a dollar for every time I’ve been to Ann Arbor Sewing Center… I could buy a lot of fabric! When I lived in Dexter, my mom and I would visit every time she came to town. It’s a beautiful store full of many different types of fabrics. Prices appear to be reasonable. They offer plenty of classes and have a nice open area for teaching and working on projects. In addition, they sell plenty of patterns, threads, tools, and sewing machines! The technology is pretty amazing. The store offers plenty of natural light, which If find valuable when fabric shopping. The staff are very nice and we have never had to wait a long time to have fabric cut or to make a purchase. I’m not a quilter, so I probably am not using the correct terminology to give it justice, but if you like to quilt or sew, it is worth a stop!

I was all set to love this shop but ended up just feeling meh. It wasn’t the selection(my wallet can attest to it being quite good) it was more the atmosphere. I came in the back way and, as a first timer, felt like I was using a staff entrance. Then, when I made my way upstairs there was a group huddled around a sewing machine talking who didn’t acknowledge me at all. So, I went in to the next room where a class was getting set up and, again I wasn’t acknowledged — I also thought that maybe I shouldn’t be in this room. So, I went to the third room where I found most of the fabric and cutting tables. Staff was talking to other customers so once again, no acknowledgement. Spent quite a bit of time looking around and finally after I had selected some fabric and placed the bolts on a cutting table was I acknowledged! Once I had staff’s attention they were very nice but it just seemed unwelcoming.

Never thought I’d see the day that Civil War reproduction fabrics and hand sewing came to A2 Sewing Center. There is a monthly Jo’s Little Women group, where members receive a monthly pattern for a small wall hanging or doll quilt sized project. Our group leader reviews the sewing methods(both machine and hand sewing techniques), we have a show-n-tell, and then of course we indulge in a little fabric buying before we go home! Jo’s members get a special 20% discount on the day of the group, and 10% on the days in between. Even though I am very experienced with quilting, making the smaller blocks is a wonderful challenge and I really enjoy seeing what the other people are making. Lots of fun.

The best sewing center in Ann Arbor with the nicest, most knowledgeable staff! The fabric selection is diverse and high quality. They skillfully service all makes and models of machines. They offer a wide variety of classes and I have enjoyed every one I have taken. I only have great things to say about them!

So, I am not really so knowledgable about sewing, I only came in here to get an extra long soft measuring tape(which they had) so measure my draft horse for a blanket, BUT this place seems to have it all! I also noticed that they seemed to have a nice little community of sewing friends working on projects and chatting together. Seemed like fun!

I sew my own clothes and I move around a lot so I’m always looking for a new sewing store. This place is awesome! I googled around to see what was nearby, and I’m so glad I went to this store first! They are primarily a quilting establishment, so almost all of their fabrics are cotton or cotton-blend. That’s okay, since the majority of clothes I make are supposed to be comfortable and practical– a perfect fit for cotton fabrics. However, despite this, I have always had great experiences with every person who works there! They are helpful, chatty and they volunteer all kinds of great information. I have also taken several classes here. The instructors are great! I got a lot out of each class, from the instructors and the students. I feel so lucky that they have enough interest to actually offer classes! It is rare to have that nowadays. My machine was serviced there several months ago, and it came back in much better shape. They are a vendor for specific manufacturers, but they have expertise in almost all machines. I do not own the brand they sell, but they are always able to help me anyway. Be careful– shopping here is addictive! They have so many great things that I always come out with more than I planned.

They are great! This is the same location as the Ann Arbor Sewing Center. I’m not sure why they have two review spots, but both get great reviews for a reason. I took my sewing machine there today to have it serviced. It turned out that it was just desperately in need of oil. The repairman was so friendly and helpful and didn’t make me feel at all stupid for not realizing that was the problem. If my machine acts up again, I will certainly take it here!

We went here when doing a scavenger hunt for fairy doors while in Ann Arbor. The sweetest woman works here! I really wish I remembered her name, but she made my day. We went in to look at the fairy door and take some pictures, and while doing so, this sweet, sweet woman comes up to us, of her own accord, and offers to take the entire set out for us to make picture taking easier(thank you, again). It really was an unnecessary, but kind, selfless gesture. I had a great time talking to her about fairy doors, if a lot of people come by to see it, and if it ever gets tedious. She said that it was actually quite fun to have people come by to see it and that they were soon going to renovate their little fairy door to make it even better!(For those that would like to know, their fairy door consists of cotton/wool around the perimeter of the door and a doorbell on the outside. When you push the doorbell, the inside of the door lights up. Inside, you can see a little sewing machine and some dresses. What you can’t see are the actual fairies. I saw the fairies when the set was taken out for us to see by the sweet woman). My little anecdote definitely shows that this sewing center prides itself in customer service(especially since I didn’t even stop in to buy anything). I would imagine that their customer service be equivalent or excel even more for those customers that come in for sewing materials. I highly, highly recommend everyone to stop by and support this business! Or to go take a look at their fairy door. Or to go chat with this lovely, welcoming, sweet woman.

What a neat store this is! The interior is sunny and colorful with vaulted ceilings; it’s laid out well and decorated with lots of gorgeous, modern quilts. The selection of fabrics is not as large as, say, Joann’s, but it’s of better quality and more attractive, in my opinion. They also have a stellar-looking lineup of machines for classes, if you’re into that. I called before visiting to inquire about having my sewing machine serviced, and the woman who answered the phone was incredibly pleasant and helpful. When I took my machine in, the service technician immediately plugged it in to take a look before giving me an estimate. It turned out to not need to be serviced at all – I’d inadvertently hit a control that made it run slowly – but he was still nice and not at all condescending despite my feeling like a huge idiot and wasting his time. I definitely plan to go back and explore when I have more time!

I go to Viking Sewing Center for quilting fabric and thread. They have a good selection of premium cotton fabrics, from seasonal stuff, to modern prints, to the traditional calicoes. They also sell sewing machines(Vikings and Berninas) and they have quilting lessons(ask them or check out the website). Sewing machine repair is available. This place is family owned and operated and everyone who works there is really polite and helpful.
