Dr Carder was awesome and really took the time to explain everything. I appreciated how thorough and helpful she was

Very helpful and friendly staff. The doctor and the team were very helpful and answered all my questions. I had a great experience and would recommend Bennett to anyone looking for an eye doctor.

Grad students beware, go to the Optometrist at the Health Center on Fletcher Street!!! The service I received was actually quite good, though they are a bit pushy when it comes to up-selling on contact lenses and glasses. The unfortunate part is that because of the way they bill your insurance, it ends up costing around 30% more out of pocket.

I’ve gone to this location for a few years(on Green Road) and overall, it’s similar to what you’d experience at the Main St. location, which is where I went before for a few years. First, the positive. The doctors I have seen at Bennet have always been great, which is why I continue to go back there. Looking at some of the other reviews, I was surprised to see people having experienced the opposite(they thought the doctors were just alright and that the front desk staff was superb). I think the doctors are great at Bennet Optometry. The reception area, however, could use some help. They’re not that friendly and frankly are more interested in chit-chatting amongst themselves to provide much service. if they did their jobs and didn’t mess up billing, I guess I would not complain. but at my visit, I asked them to please look into billing my insurance company, because I was 99% confident that my fancy schmancy insurance covers one eye exam a year. On my paperwork that they had me review, they had my insurance information correct. The numbers were all correct and the policy was written in there correctly. but when they went to supposedly check to see if it was covered, they called the wrong insurance company, which doesn’t cover an eye exam. how the miscommunication occurred I’m not sure, but it did, it was Bennet’s error, and they never even apologized. they tried to blame it on the insurance company getting confused. anyway, I had to call my insurance company myself, call Bennet back; they gave me the run-around some more, so I called my insurance company again, and they initiated a 3-way call w/the dr’s office, where everything was explained to them. I spent about 30 minutes on the phone that day trying to sort out the confusion. also, it takes FOREVER to get glasses through there. It doesn’t really make sense to me because I can drive to the mall to Lens Crafters and they’ll do it in an hour or so. Life is short and I don’t like wasting my time. I’ll probably switch offices for next year because of the shenanigans with the billing and how long it has taken so far for my glasses(it’s already been two weeks and I still don’t have them). If you don’t mind listening to secretaries gossip while they should be calling your insurance company, then you will enjoy it there. I myself would prefer people to do their jobs and provide good service, which is why I likely won’t go back.

I’ve been going here for two years now and have never had an issue. The physicians are great, quick, efficient and courteous. The reception staff is kind and helpful – they even walked me thru operating the incredibly complex coffee machine!

I have been a customer here for 20 years. They have always treated me and my now grown son great. This time around I actually got Dr. Bennett, nice guy. I also like the help I get in picking out frames. I always get magnetically attachable polarized sun glasses.

I went to Bennett’s on Green Rd. with my fiancé to help her pick out a new pair of glasses and I was really disappointed with the help we received. I can’t comment on the doctors, but the experience looking for frames was bad. We are two very friendly people so we simply went with the flow, but we will be looking for frames in other places from now on. I really didn’t like how the salesman talked about the glasses in the discounted section. He said without a second thought, «if you want a pair of ugly glasses, that’s where you should look.» I would hate to be broke and be a patient of Bennett’s. The salesman also didn’t want to get to know my fiancé at all. He kept referring to the glasses that he personally likes to wear and wasn’t listening to the style of glasses my fiancé likes. We will definitely be looking for a different optometrist for my fiancé’s next appointment.

I work in downtown Ann Arbor, and Bennett Optometry is literally around the corner from my office. I suppose I felt compelled to write this review based on the not so glowing reviews posted before me. First of all my wife and myself have been going to Bennett since moving to Ann Arbor 13 years ago. I have never had an issue with service, or the quality of product that they offer. I have never felt pushed into a service I did not need. Our prescriptions for eye ware is always spot on, we did stray one year and went for a mall store and that was not a good experience. Dr B is a good guy and we are fans for life.

When it comes to things like Doctors and mechanics, I’m hesitant to change. It’s such a pain that it rarely makes sense to me. I’ll endure marginal service. I’ll ignore screw ups. It takes quite a bit for me to go through the painful process of finding someone new to take care of something essential. Well I finally got there with Bennett Optometry. I’ve never been in love with this place, but it served my purpose. Over the years the high turnover rate among staff bothered me, but it’s not like I want a personal relationship with these people. Some were good, some were bad, whatever. But then more and more were bad. And a little rude. And REALLY indifferent to my wants or needs. So after screwing up my glasses order for the second time in three years(and half insinuating it was my fault) I’m out. I can get indifferent pretty much anywhere, so if I(and my insurance) are going to pay a pretty sum for it, at least I should find a place with a better selection of eyewear.

The receptionists are friendly and the actual exam is fine, but the customer service from the doctors is terrible. The doctor was very pushy about ordering contacts — they only carried my brand in boxes of 90, and since I’m newer to that brand, I wanted to buy just a few(opened boxes are non-returnable). He lectured me for perhaps 10 minutes on how I should only buy from their office, despite the fact that they didn’t stock the smaller box I wanted and wouldn’t order it!

First off I would like to say that I believe I am a very patient and understanding person. I work in a hospital as a health care professional, and I understand what it is like to work with patients on a daily basis. I think this makes me much more understanding for other health care professionals in terms of the care that I receive, because I understand that sometimes you have to wait, and sometimes don’t always go your way. With that said, I am very critical of my health care, whether it be my dental, cardiovascular, or vision for this matter. I can say with my heart’s full conviction, that the way I was treated at Bennett Optometry was one of the most upsetting examples of service, not just health care related, that I have ever received. The receptionists were very friendly and very welcoming. Past then it became an experience that I wish I never would have had. The tech or helper was down to business and wasn’t very personable at all. She made me feel rushed throughout the whole montage of tests, and wasn’t personal to me at all; if I wanted to be treated as a faceless number and rushed through my exam I would’ve went to Wal-Mart and saved my hard earned money. I usually like to support local businesses, and local business owners, which is the reasoning behind going to Bennett opposed to a «chain». I like the more personal feel, the extra time spent, and to build rapport with the ones that provide the care for you. I won’t be building any rapport with anyone at Bennett anymore because I won’t be a repeat customer. Working with the optometrist was the main reason in which I became so upset. He was a younger male, and he had the ego of a male probably about 15 years younger than himself. Anytime I mentioned my feelings or experiences that I had previously with my previous optometrist of which I had for multiple years, he would respond so matter of factly and so subtlety that that wasn’t the right way of doing it. He would get upset with me and actually become confrontational with me when I mentioned to him that I didn’t want to upgrade my contacts; I felt like I was getting scolded by my parents for not eating my vegetables at the table during dinner. I felt like he was condescending and thought of me only as a uneducated piece of swine; granted I «only» have a bachelor of science degree in nuclear medicine technology. Overall, if I were to describe the feeling after leaving Bennett, I felt like I just left a bad restaurant, and the dish that I just ate didn’t taste very good, and it ended up giving me food poisoning. If I wanted to be up sold on everything I would’ve went and got my oil changed, they would have at least been more polite when doing so. Next time I need vision care I’m driving home 2 hours to go see my hometown optometrist; I’d be happy to even pay 2 – 3 times more there…

i was a loyal — cash — customer(read my first review below) for many years until bennett’s front desk manager did all but literally call me a deadbeat in front of a packed waitingroom this morning. yeah. cash-only and a deadbeat. somehow they just dont exist on the same plane. anyway, i would recommend blindness before placing your $$s in the hands of bennett optometry’s dumb, catty, unprofessional desk staff and billing department. i am truly sorry to have been a good — cash– customer for so long. bennett did not deserve my dollars.

I just got my eyes checked out here about two months ago and overall, I was satisfied with my experience. The optometrist I got was young, but very knowledgeable and didn’t seem to be in a hurry to push me out of there. Two things: He had an intern run the initial tests on me, but then again, they didn’t seem hard to do so it didn’t really matter. The other thing is, just like every other optometrist, they usher you into the room with all the frames hoping you’re crazy enough to spend $ 400 on a pair of designer eyeglasses.
