Paul C Uslan, OD

Dr. Uslan has been in the field for 35+ years and it shows in the way he interacts with people. He is consistently personable and professional. I felt comfortable talking with him and felt that I was receiving great service. I will definitely continue «seeing» (pun intended) him in the future.

picked up glasses over a month ago. prescription/​fit still incorrect and i’ve gone in twice to have them fitted properly. promptly told no, don’t bother taking off your contacts, we don’t need to check your vision with the glasses on, i can adjust them while you stand in my waiting area with your eyes. closed.
have had them ‘adjusted’ twice that way and am getting the feeling there is no interest to get my order correct, just to rush me out the door.

Went today for my eye exam and fitting for my new glasses that the very personable Georgia help me pick out. Her sense of style and caring is great. I have been to many optometrists over the years, but going to Dr. Paul is the most pleasant office I have ever experienced. Dr. Uslan and his wife Georgia are a great pair and make each visit special. They really care about their patients.

Dr. Uslan has been the only Optometrist I will see (pun intended). He has been nothing short of amazing for the twenty plus years he has cared for my families vision care needs. Dr. Uslan is consistently personable, professional and exceptionally talented. His Office Manager extraordinaire, Georgia, greets us with a smile and exhibits’ customer service and an enthusiasm that is always warm and inviting. These folks bring me back to a day when your health care professionals knew how to treat people and understood relationships.

Reading the other reviews I can only assume the satisfied customers at this location have no idea how many better options there are out there. Here are some of the details of my experience:
The good:
Dr. Uslan is very nice, conversational, and seems to genuinely care about his patients. His assistant gave me a free mini-​bottle of saline solution, a small plastic lens carrier, and a new case for my spare glasses. Once my correct prescription was identified (see «the bad» below) my contacts arrived fairly quickly.
The bad:
The office manager/​assistant has no people skills, makes frequent mistakes (appointment error, chart mix-​up, etc) and makes it seem like a chore every time she interacts with customers. Every phone conversation I have had with her (perhaps 6) makes me feel like I am wasting her time. From the other reviews of this office I assume the only reason she is still employed is because she is married to Dr. Uslan.
A few of the things the Dr. Told me contradict the medical opinions of other optometrists I have used and my own experience. Miscommunication, incorrect lens Rx/​fit, and the need to schedule additional visits to find the correct Rx were part of my experience.

Couldn’t have asked for more. Knowledgeable, up to date, efficient, informative, straightforward, patient, and incredibly good at helping me select a frame. And they take my insurance. I wish I had found Dr Uslan’s office years ago.

I found Dr. Uslan through my insurance website and upon verification by Unilocal,decided to give him a try after I got tired of one of the big local practices continued to disappointment with their callousness and lack of attention to detail. I can say unequivocally that this is the best optometrist experience I have ever had.
It felt personal. I am naturally uncomfortable in these situations, and the staff here put me at ease. Plus, I learned more about my eyes in one visit than I had in 20+ years of visiting eye doctors. That alone is awesome.
But what I really wanted was to have someone there to help me pick out glasses and show me what to wear. I got that in spades, as the third pair I was handed were exactly what I wanted (and weren’t $ 500 — their selection is great.) I love stylish older ladies who can tell me what would look good on me — they’re never wrong.
Bottom line, I love to be able to recommend something when someone asks «Anyone know a good _​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​?» I now whole heartedly have my optometrist.

I’ve seen Dr. Uslan over the last few years and always had a great experience. Recently I’ve had a couple issues with my eyes and he’s seen me the same day both times and was able to get me out of discomfort/​pain right away. Couldn’t ask for better care!

I have really hard to fit eye balls, as far as contacts go. I’ve tried over 3 – 4 times to get the right set over the course of the last 15 years and they have all given me headaches. (When I was a teenager, the places I went to told me it was normal so that they didn’t have to fit me multiple sets and use up their time or money. I didn’t know better so I thought migraines were normal and just gave up.)
Dr. Uslan has been the only doctor who has been able to fit me with the right pair! Turns out my astigmatism was the trouble and could not be corrected by simply increasing the prescription strength. He went through maybe 5 – 6 kinds of contacts before we got to the right prescription (in power AND astigmatism) and now I can wear contacts while I do sports without having the world spin! Dr. Uslan is an excellent doctor! He’s also knowledgeable and gives fairly good explanations if you ask.
Just a few side comments: He and his wife, Georgia, own the business and have been doing that for a long time. Because of the excellent fitting and medical service, I am willing to forgive how abrupt they are on the phone, and sometimes in person (almost to the point of rudeness). Just don’t catch them at a bad moment and be very brief/​succinct about what you want if you are calling on the phone, or you might be chewed out.

I had a great experience with Dr. Uslan, and I’m glad I was able to find such a good eye doctor upon moving to Ann Arbor.
The first thing you’ll probably notice upon walking into Dr. Uslan’s office is that it’s *covered* in Batman posters. No, he’s not same crazy Batman-​obsessed guy — his brother has actually produced every Batman film made to date. Look him up on IMDB or Wikipedia — his name is Michael Uslan.
Dr. Uslan took his time thoroughly checking out my eyes. While doing this, he mentioned that my contacts didn’t seem to be sitting on my eyes correctly. So he went ahead and re-​measured the curve of my eye, something that no doctor has done since I originally got contacts when I was 16. Sure enough, the curve he measured didn’t match my prescription. He explained that because of this my contacts weren’t sitting on my eyes correctly, which accounts for a lot of the discomfort I’ve had with my contacts for several years. He gave me a sample pair of lenses with a different curve, and all I can say is WOW. I’ve been wearing these other lenses for about a week now, and they’ve been fantastic.
I feel that Dr. Uslan took time and care in examining my eyes. Most other eye doctors I’ve been to over the years generally just rush through things so they can get my money and move onto their next patient, and I’m glad to have found a doctor who doesn’t seem to do that.

I am totally pleased with the care I’ve received from Dr. Uslan since first visiting his office a few weeks ago. A long time contact wearer, I’ve suffered intermittent but persistent eye problems over the last three years. I’ve been to eye doctors at four separate practices, but none have come anywhere close to properly diagnosing the problem.
Dr. Uslan took the time to do a very thorough exam and to explain exactly what he saw happening in my eyes. Instead of just giving me an antibiotic, then slapping me in new contacts the following week, he really helped me understand what was happening, and why the contacts that I’ve been wearing for the last few years have caused and then exacerbated the problem. He seemed genuinely interested in my well-​being, rather than just my insurance dollars, which is completely the opposite of my last experience with an eye doctor. Once my eye problems cleared up, he fitted me with new contacts and glasses, recommending that I order the full year of contacts because if I have to make a change — as I did when I started seeing him — he will exchange the unused lenses. That’s more than I can say for
or any other place where I’ve bought contacts.
There’s a reason this guy has been in practice for 38 years. My fiancé has subsequently been in to see him, and came home with very warm and positive things to say. I’m glad to have found such a great physician on the first try!
