The JB Merrick Apothecary has been at the same location in Ardmore for many years, has no other stores and has not expanded its” product line” nor is expected to. An apothecary if we go by the old definition is a pharmacy that dispenses not only all strata of medicines and prescriptions but also herbal remedies. They don’t sell toys, candy, kitchen utensils or other stuff that doesn’t belong in a bona fide pharmacy. The pharmacists that are employed at a true apothecary such as Merrick’s also dispense sound advice on the advantages, side effects and overall efficacy of the medicine that they are issuing. They are in effect the perfect liaison between you and the doctor who has prescribed your medicine. Unlike chain drugstores, the pharmacist at the counter at Merrick’s will be the same year after year so you don’t suffer the musical chair system of young newly minted pharmacists that the chains must employ to staff their many stores. Which of us who have any proximity to a resource such as Merrick’s would still go to a CVS or any other chain drug store for that matter?
