I’ve never actually been to this particular Radio Shack, but I nonetheless feel honor-bound to give it a glowingly positive review. Some years ago, my mother went here to buy my late grandfather a tape recorder for his birthday. When he tried to play it, it didn’t work, so Mom went back to the Pentagon City Radio Shack, where the employees very kindly and helpfully replaced it with one that wasn’t a dud. The music that Granddad listened to on that new tape recorder was a major source of comfort to him during what turned out to be the very last stretch of his life.

I needed a replacement rechargeable battery for my cordless phone. Yes, I still have a landline. Anyway, after exhausting other avenues to find a suitable replacement, I went to Radio Shack. Frankly, I wasn’t even sure Radio Shack was still in business before googling it and finding a convenient store location. The Bad: Indifferent customer service. There was only one other customer in the store and two, maybe three, employees in the store. When I stepped up to the register to pay, one of the employees saw me(we made eye contact), then took some garbage to the backroom, and didn’t return. After waiting at the counter for almost five minutes, the second employee finally came over to ring me up. She seemed less than excited to be there and to have to take care of a customer. Weird. The Good: They had what I needed when I needed it. This is the electronics store of last resort. Call it 2.5 stars… rounded up to 3.
