I stopped in to this place because I was in Arvada and I can’t resist a used bookstore! According to the counter guy there are four rooms and they are packed to the rafters with books and more books. It was a cozy place that I wish I could have spent more time in — I guess I will have to come back! So Tara it looks like they are still alive and kicking — and judging by the crowd of people that were in there when I left hopefully they will stay that way

Grandfather Books sits quietly in the heart of Olde Town Arvada. It’s a little disorganized inside, but I’ve never met a nicer bookstore owner. He offered to show me around and when he found out I was a librarian, he offered me a job for 3 hours a month and would pay me in books. It was adorable. While I was there, he gave me a pristine copy of Tom Clancy’s Executive Orders. I don’t need it, but how could I say no to a free book? The books are arranged by subject and there are many corners to hunker down and sift through the treasures. I can’t bring myself to say anything bad about it though because I am extremely concerned for it’s continued existence. While chatting, the owner seemed unsure how long he would be able to remain open. Selling books online out of your garage is cheaper and easier for the seller. But for me the buyer, Grandfather’s Books, however long it remains, feels like family.
