I had a really great (well, as great as sleep studies go) experience here.
Making reservations was pretty painless — the sleep study coordinator that set me up, Davina, was helpful, informative, and thorough. She got me all set up with a date, the paperwork, and later followed up with me to make sure that I knew the procedure.
The day of my sleep study, I got to the Ashburn site (they also have a Fairfax location) about 1950 for my 2000 appointment. Alex, my awesome sleep technician (who happens to manage the daytime sleep practice here) was outside the front door to let me in and set me up with some prep paperwork. (Random aside: why are all the cute ones taken?!) He then went back outside to wait for the other study participant — they do two patients per night.
Shortly thereafter, I was out in the main area getting glued to a bunch of electrodes and being strapped into bands to measure chest rise. Alex talked me through what he was doing and was totally knowledgeable and friendly. It made the half hour of getting wired up pass by quickly.
The entire facility was clean and comfortable — the bed was comfortably sized for my frame, the video camera to record me was unobtrusive and with the lights turned off, I couldn’t even make it out in the darkness. Alex reassured me that if anything went wrong with the electrodes, or if I needed to get disconnected from the diagnostic boxes to use the loo, he’s be readily accessible by a holler toward the microphone in the wall.
As usual, I passed out into dreamless oblivion, and it seemed like no time had passed before Alex came back in and warned me that the lights were going on. This happened somewhere around 0530 the next morning, and I didn’t even feel like I’d slept, but he assured me that they had a couple good hours of sleep to analyze later. He got me all unplugged from my wires painlessly, and I was on my way home shortly thereafter.
Solidly professional, quality service throughout — from registration through execution. Great facility that’s well-​maintained and comfortable. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Totally great practice that I’d be perfectly willing to come back to. If you (or your sleeping partner) thinks you’re apneic, don’t wait to make an appointment here!
