Virginia Academy

This school has all the bells and whistles. My nephew and niece go to this school and love it. They have a uniform system and a good emphasis on variety of subjects they cover. The teachers give progress comments on a detailed manner. My nephew is 3 and can’t stop talking about his teacher, Miss.Maria. He even wants to take her to Disney World next time he visits. My niece (5) as well enjoys going to VA Academy for school. She was very shy as a kid and really grew more confident after attending this school for 2 – 3 years so far.
I happened to pick up my nephew and niece with my mom last time I was in VA. They have a good system of pick up. My mom was on the list of people who can up my niece and nephew. The classrooms seemed spacious and had multiple teachers in each room. If you are looking for a private school around the Loudon area I think this one is rated very highly. Overall, the school is clean and inviting.

This is the best thing we did for our twins. After debating on putting them in preschool, we decided to go ahead and have them go. When they started, they didn’t even know the alphabet. Now they know all letter, upper and lower case, numbers, as well as learning handwriting, cutting and reading groups. They went from two very attached to mommy kids to loving to go to school, make friends, and truly flourish. The curriculum is phenomenal, the results are astounding, and we are looking forward to their kindergarten next year. If you want a place filled with positive reinforcement and teachers who get to know your children and build up their confidence and character, look no further!

The Virginia Academy presents a lovely package — shiny new building, well lit classrooms, small class sizes, and a great music program for a reasonable price. However, after my child began kindergarten there, I immediately became concerned about the teacher. She was unpleasant, and disorganized. When I met with her to discuss things my child needed in order to progress acadmically in her class, she was uninterested and unresponsive. Students sat silently in her room coloring, completing worksheets from a 16 year old curriculum, and watched videos with no instructional value. I complained repeatedly to the teacher, the team leader, and principal. Although I met with the principal, nothing changed in my child’s class. I eventually removed my child from the school, rather than subject him to more unpleasantness and watch him waste a whole year of school sitting with his head down so the teacher could have quiet time.
This is a school that values having kids wear the correct uniforms and put on a nice show at Christmas. It’s not the place to go if you want academic challenge, rigor, or individualized instruction.
Don’t make the same mistake I made! Stay away from this place!
