Quiche!!! Today’s had chunks of goat cheese, so amazing!!! I Also got coconut macaroons, thin cookies that have a perfect little chew and sweetness to them. And nobody can beat there coffee. I’ve lived downtown going on 4 years and can walk anywhere I want to to grab a bite. I would recommend old Europe to anyone wanting a delicious creative fresh breakfast and coffee all the way to a late night yummy creative dessert that is just as tasty as it is beautiful to look at. The place has a relaxing cozy dark relaxing atmosphere that so many places lack. Go and enjoy!!!

After our wine bar trip, we stumbled into Old Europe, as some of us in our group was getting tired. We came for a little bit of a pick me up of some coffee! This little spot is cute. Let’s just say it’s not like your starbucks or some panera. It sort of reminded me of a place somewhere in New York or some coffee shop in a big city. Noted that this place has definitely limited seating. I ordered what I believe was a Mocha Latte. I can’t be quite sure, but I believe it was maybe an Hazelnut Mocha. Yes. Let’s go with that. It was good! The atmosphere here made it for me. Along with the coffee, you can also order desserts. I wasn’t quite in that sort of mood, but I was extremely tempted on getting a Tiramisu. But, that didn’t happen. If you’re looking for a small intimate spot to drink coffee, this is your place.

Relaxed atmosphere with excellent pastry selection & lattes, friendly staff, outdoor & private indoor seating with free wifi(no password required). Was able to plant a flag and work quietly for a good few hours with a window seat, without anyone bothering me. Music is just the right volume. Great little friendly spot close to downtown.

Stopped in to get a coffee and pastry after our tour of the Biltmore. Everything was delicious and the ambience was just very laid back and relaxed. Perfect ending to our last night in Asheville

First visit here based on Unilocal reviews and am not disappointed! People are friendly, coffee is great and my ham and cheese croissant is quite tasty. My wife had the apple strudel and she said it was like her grandmother’s-big compliment!

Good coffee, nice pastry selection. Service could have been a little friendlier. Cute little coffee shop in the heart of Asheville. I ordered a cappuccino and the most delicious shortbread cookie I have ever tasted. Looking forward to visiting again the next time I’m in Asheville.

Cute hole in the wall coffee shop. Cheap and a great selection of desserts and pastries with many gluten free options. Perfect place to bring work or a book and relax for an hour. Right in the heart of the Asheville action and is a much better alternative for after dinner espresso/café drinks than ordering at the restaurant. Backs up its name – this tiny coffeeshop could easily be in Vienna, Barcelona, Prague, or any number of old European cities.

Best. Tiramisu. Ever. Next item on their menu I want to try someday: the Marzipan Square.

Delicious treats and several gluten-free options. Had the pumpkin tiramisu which was SO good. My husband had the carrot cake and said it was pretty good but not as sweet as he’s used to, the frosting however was spot on!

I asked the friendly barista, «What really good coffee can you make me?» «I can make you anything, everything…», she replied. Had the espresso, and overhearing a lady saying she was watching her calories, I decided to watch mine too, as they filled up my belly — with a carrot cake slice and crème brule. Take that. This reminds me of the cafes you’d come across in Paris, Barcelona… I expected to see Julie Delpy & Etha Hawke sitting a table, holding hands, after a night of romance, «Before Sunset», «After Sunset», «Before Sunrise». Go anytime with your sweetheart and the sparks shall fly.

I sampled the Godiva chocolate cheesecake and a berry Pavlova from Old Europe while visiting Asheville. The pastries and cakes seem to be better here than at French Broad chocolate. Old Europe is open fairly late, which is definitely a plus. However, when I did stop in late at night, the selection was much smaller than a lunch time visit.

Asheville is packed with all sorts of nooks and crannies. Places that if you walk too fast you would shoot right by. Old Europe is one of those. I can best describe it as a fancy and cute hole in the wall pastry shop. At night, the lighting is dim and romantic. The seating area to the left is very small and cozy — you will definitely be cuddled up tight next to your date. My Café au Lait was not only enormous but delicious. The Tiramisu — well, let’s just say I can’t remember the last time I had Tiramisu that good. The bittersweet cocoa powder — precise density to the cake portion — and the Mascarpone was so fresh with a perfect slightly grainy creamy texture — out of this freakin’ world! I would not be surprised if someone told me an Italian Brain Surgeon made that stuff! There is no picture of the Tiramisu because I broke Unilocal rule number one — take a picture before you eat it. There was never going to be a picture…

I have been to many coffee shops around the United States, but Old Europe really stands out in my mind. It may be a little small but that contributes to the home like feel. The staff is friendly and willing to help you decide what to order, but you really can’t go wrong. They offer all of the traditional fixings of a typical coffee shop with a few extras. All of the coffes come from a local source and are delivered within days of being roasted. I ordered a latte with no sugar or flavorings, this becerage had plenty of flavor on its own. It was mellow without the bitterness of a light roast and not the charred taste of a dark roast. My wife ordered the cold brew coffee which was described to is as having more caffeine than a traditional drip coffee and the process takes 36 hours to brew. It tasted strong and complex with the rich flavor of the coffee bean oils. Because of the boldness of the cold brew coffee it would be appropriate to add flavoring to this drink. The desert and pastry display cabinet was full of deccadent treats from the soft and light to the more sweet variety. I had the tripple berry moose cake. It had a soft sponge cake base, a creamy moose center, and fruit and gelatin top. It was simble and light and not very sweet at all making it a perfect compliment to my latte. My wife ordered the tiramisu and she enjoyed it so much she didnt want to share. It too was not overly sweet allowing you to enjoy the pastry to its fullest.

Are you looking for the most delicious pastries in town? Get yourself over to Old Europe! I went there for my brother’s birthday yesterday, and everything we ordered was a rousing success. Key Lime Pie? best I’ve had in years. I generally avoid dairy, but I a was overcome by the temptation of a truly epic key lime pie! It was worth it! My brother had the bavarian lemon something or other, which is basically a citrus chiffon base covered in fresh berries. Amazing. My sister in law had a pavlova. Honestly, I never saw the point of pavlovas. Until THIS pavlova. This, friends, is why people order pavlovas. Are you looking for a quiet intimate space to share a sweet with your sweetie? Maybe look elsewhere. The whole city of Asheville is well aware of the delicious wonders that await in the pastry cases at Old Europe, and this little counter-style café only seats 15. Which means on a Friday night, there will be 15 butts in 15 seats, and another 30 people standing, ordering, waiting, eating, or lurking over your pavlova hoping you’ll get up and let them sit down. In sum: It makes for outstanding eating, but not for the romantic seclusion one sometimes expects in a dessert shop.

Old Europe is charming. This spot has a long history with Asheville, providing delicious pastries and coffee for the better part of a decade. Its most recent incarnation is intimate. Some might call it small, but you’re being deceived by the walls that shelter the seating section. It’s bigger than it appears. Old Europe might have one of the best cold brewed ice coffees in town. Strong, delicious, and with a buzz that will keep you going for hours on end. Although I feel like it’s a touch more expensive than any of the other standard coffee spots in town, it’s seriously top notch. While I’m not the type of guy that buys sweet baked treats on a regular basis, their pastries are epic. If a friend needs a pick me up, or someone’s visiting town and has a major sweet tooth, there’s a good chance we’ll be stopping in here. Focus on the chocolate. I feel like the main reason I don’t stop here more often is due to the absolute lack of parking that currently exists around Old Europe. It’s located at one of the busiest parts of Broadway. The parking deck that did service this busy part of town is now a giant hole that will soon house a new and massive hotel. This is good news, as that means there will be more parking, and a constant infusion of visitors to enjoy this charming little spot.

Tired of French Broad Chocolate Lounge … then here is where you come :). Cozy indoors. Definitley a place to bring your date for a sweet talk :). We had four desserts on our first visit. Expresso Roulade, Chocolate Mouse, Chocolate Soufflé. Marzipan Square and Éclair. Expresso Roulade lacked the strong taste of coffee that were expecting. Éclair was a complete disappointment. It is more like a lame attempt on french cream puff. Marzipan square has a subtle almond taste to it(if you can spot it). Chocolate soufflé was a best of the lot. It was soft, rich and creamy. We picked their cheesecake as our late night snack. The cheesecake was good but not so great to rave about. To sum it up, in my opinion, I felt the desserts lacked the killer taste punch that I came to expect. Bottomline: Cozy interiors, good desserts(choose wisely) and affordable prices.
