New to vinyl… I was so thankful to walk into Static. They were very helpful and not intimidating. Thank you!

As far as my tastes in music go, Static Age tickles my fancy. They have a fine selection ranging from black metal to indie pop rock and all of the glam in between. I very rarely set foot inside without making at least one purchase. The only draw back is that their POS system for some reason does not get along with my wellsfargo debit card and typically sets of the fraud detection alert on my account. After this happening a couple of times the young lady that runs the counter jokingly reminds me to go get cash before browsing the crates to feed my vinyl addiction! So in short, don’t be deceived by the somewhat less refined outward appearance of Static Age compared to that West side juggernaut(whom I also spend a small fortune in support of) go in and spend some time browsing for your next favorite record!

Static Age is so cool. Great Punk selection as others have mentioned, and the guy working was friendly and helpful. He pointed out damages on the cover sleeve to make sure I was aware and okay with it before buying.

Best record store ever. The owner is a real nice guy. If you shop anywhere else you’re a dumb dumb.

Static Age may be small but it boasts an impressive collection of punk, metal, and experimental records. You won’t be walking off with any amazingly cheap deals but I would certainly call the pricing fair. Go here for good recommendations on local punk bands and shows.

Just a great little record store in downtown Asheville. I’ve found some great classic rock in the dollar bins and in the main stacks. They also have some used speakers, receivers, etc along the back wall. The staff is friendly and allows you to browse without looking over your shoulder. I always inspect each record I purchase, taking it out of the sleeve, etc; no problems here with that. Asheville has a lot of great record stores — Harvest over in West Asheville and Voltage two doors up. You won’t go wrong making Static your first stop to dig. As a plus, a huge parking lot is just across the street for a buck an hour.

This is how a record shop should be — Cool owner with a great eclectic collection of records from dj Shadow to Paul Johnson to greek folk — nice selection of world music and he’s picks up independent records if they look /sound cool enough ;)

Great store with great selection and layout. Picked up stuff I never see. Most of these reviews say the selection is mostly punk and metal, but they had all my stuff from the 70’s as well. Hip vibe, cool dude behind the counter.

A great store with a focus on punk and metal, but you can find a lot of decent classic rock and jazz there as well. The indie section is pretty damn good too. The owner and staff are friendly, and have recommended some pretty cool music to me. Just in used is replenished regularly Reasonable prices. Great location. Dog friendly. Vinyl only.

I love that we have a record store like Static Age in Asheville. This is not the place where you’ll find plenty of copies of the new Band of Horses record. It is, however, a best-kept-secret type of place if you’re into anything and everything that is «out there.» Their primary focus is on punk/metal, as well as lots of underground bands in general, but where they really shine for me is in the weird, experimental type of records. They also have a great«New Used Arrivals» section where you’ll find anything from a $ 10 copy of Unknown Pleasures to a rare psych-folk record you previously thought you’d never find. They also have a lot of shows in the back room several times per month, which are usually touring metal or punk bands. A really great DIY feel to this place and the guys who run it are super-friendly and down to earth.

Cool record store. The place isn’t very big, but they have a nice selection of indie/punk-oriented vinyl. I managed to find a Mark Sultan record that’s been on my wishlist for a while, and it was only $ 8. One thing that really caught my eye was the collection of vintage stereo gear on the back wall. I wish I could have spent more time looking around, but I had pretty much exhausted my girlfriend’s patience for looking at records by the time we found this place. Plus, we were eager to check out the Downtown After 5 festivities that were going on directly outside the store. I’ll definitely have to come back the next time I’m in Asheville.

We stopped in Asheville as part of our East Coast record buying extravaganza and found the town to be a cute little place nestled in the mountains. Static Age is located in the downtown area and, I admit, I had high hopes for the town’s record collection because of its reputation for being pretty hip. Sadly, I was mostly disappointed. Static Age was a small shop with a fairly haphazardly displayed, random and small vinyl collection. They had CDs, t-shirts and some assorted vintage-y record accessories like 45 holders and turntables. I was looking for really specific, niche things and found a couple of records to buy but I really had to dig. They do have a large $ 1 assortment made up mostly of old classic rock, r&b and soul, the kind of things you typically find in thrift store vinyl sections. While we were there, someone brought their dog in so they are dog-friendly which always counts as a bonus in my book.

Wow! This is a great Vinyl Store! Should be called Statik Rage! All my friends under 30(that would be ALL of them) talk about Character of Sound… My KISS Destroyer has more Character than yours, for example and what about that Culture Club Album that skips(you know it does)! I have read other reviews for record stores in Asheville and a lot of them comment on the attitude of record store clerks… not in a positive way. I was so relieved to wander into Static Age records and find a friendly helpful staff and a great record selection. The new section had some really cool records but in the alphabetized section were some nicely priced albums(we got the Concert For Bangladesh [produced by George Harrison] for $ 3 along with several others). Overall, great experience and great selection with decent prices.
