I love this place. Sometimes it’s really busy and other times you’ve got the place to yourself. Service is always great. Everyone is so nice. I’ve been trying different things on the menu and have learned not to order the«meatloaf» definitely get a burger. Nothing fancy here, just good old fashioned diner food. BLT add an egg… Great! Omelette sate great. Unlimited coffee. Whatever you’re in the mood for just ask! They usually can accommodate you. Enjoy!

Skip the lines for the trendy spots, and give Tastee Diner a try. The place is full of locals, so you know it must be good. Service is fast and polite as they come. The food and prices are what you would come to expect from an old school diner. We ate there for breakfast and lunch while staying in Asheville for the week, and its the only place we went twice during our stay. The menu has plenty of southern staples to choose from and you won’t leave hungry. The next time you’re in Asheville, give this little diner a try and skip the wait at the popular spots.

It’s great when a place knows what it is. Tastee Diner is a place where locals eat. We had the fried cod, green beans(nice smokey pork notes), cole slaw, meat loaf & squash casserole. Wonderful find; delicious. Don’t forget to get dessert. The coconut cream pie was ridiculous.

Super sweet staff. Great tasting pancakes and crispy bacon! Eggs were a bit overcooked but that was my only complaint. One reviewer said before it’s mostly just older regulars that’ll stare at you… no, it’s a multigenerational place(I love older folks anyway). It was great. Pretty small in there though. Great bar seating. The cashier really remembered my husband’s grandfather that used to eat there 9 years ago almost on a daily basis. Pretty cool.

This is where we went for breakfast and then back for lunch when I worked for the City Of Asheville. It is the place to get as close to a home cooked meal you will find now days. The breakfast is enough to get you going for the day, and the lunch puts you back on your feet if you have burned up all of your energy that morning. You will see many of the working force eating there daily, but it is also a favorite to those who retired and still go back for the food, and some business folks go there to either enjoy a good meal or to introduce someone new to a taste of what dining was like before the fast food chains ruled the world. But remember to take cash with you to pay for your meal since they don’t accept plastic/

Ok, so you’re in Asheville for the day and you’ve got to try the ‘best’ breakfast in town. Everyone is going to point you in the direction of West Asheville and Sunny Pointe Café. But, oh no! there’s a three hour wait that turns breakfast into lunch while you sip coffee in the shady trees with all the other tourists who were directed there. If you’re a local it’s a rare Tuesday at 8:30 in February you get to taste the cuisine. During peak visitor season, give Tastee Diner a thought. It’s local, it’s friendly, it’s fast, and its TASTEE. Rib stickin’ tastee. Rub your tummy tastee. Nap at 10 a.m. tastee. It’s just one of those diners where you may not be getting scratch made biscuits with whole wheat organic flour and butter from grass fed cows but it’s still delicious and cheap. Tomato biscuit and grits runs a penny over $ 2 which is more than worth it considering it will fill you well into lunch time. The Diner also provides one of the more unique interiors in Asheville second only to Mama’s right down the street. Everyone is super southern friendly and the counter is a great place to read the paper and watch the locals get their routine breakfast. The place keeps the Organic Mechanics crew across the street full and happy from open to close. It’s a perfect place to perch while you get your car fixed and keep your stomach full as well as your wallet. A must try at least once if you live in Asheville.

A tiny diner big on friendly service and terrific home cooked meals! We had the country style steak, pot roast, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, green beans and pinto beans. All delicious! Oh, and a side of cornbread and biscuits. Definitely recommend a trip to the tastee diner!

Just like the other reviews say, this is a hidden little local spot. Came here specifically to try livermush, but everything was delicious. I loved that the grits were nice and thick and the biscuits were light and fluffy! If i’m in Asheville again, I’d definitely make a stop here!

Meat and three! Wood paneling! Framed NASCAR photos! Ancient Formica counter-tops! You’ll see a lot of old-timers and people in laborer uniforms sipping on coffee. You’ll drink a lot of sweet tea. And you won’t pay more than about $ 5 for your meal. If you’re looking for the kind of diner that serves organic, locally-grown food, this is not your joint. If you’re looking for an authentic diner that caters more to its large base of regulars than tourists, enjoy!

Only locals go here. The head of the history department at UNC Asheville takes new professors to Tastee Diner to really get a feel for the city(and kind of freak them out). Most people think Asheville has a bunch of hippies/alternative lifestyle type of people but Tastee Diner gives you a feel for the old blue collar«Worst Asheville»(what they used to call West Asheville until it began to be gentrified). The servers are sweet and call you«darlin’.» Go for breakfast and TRY to spend more than $ 5, you’ll be stuffed if you do. It’s delicious and perfect for the value. Make sure you bring cash OR check because they don’t take debit or credit cards– it’s old school. The coffee is terrible, but that just brings more character to the place.

This place has an awesome breakfast. They certainly know how to make good gravy and biscuits. One of the best around.

Thank you Unilocal!I have been driving by the Tastee Diner for years but never ever thought to stop there until a few days ago. I am glad I did. I had a simple ham and cheese omelette, two huge biscuits w/gravy and lots of coffee, all for about $ 5 – 6(not including tip). I was stuffed all day! The food was good and filling. The coffee was hot and fresh. Our waitress was super nice. I will definitely go back! I’d give this place 5 stars based on value.

Blink and you will miss it. Nice people in here. A really cool meat and three, diner with fabulous cheap breakfast. This place is cheap too. Makes homemade biscuits. Tons of options to put on them including… yes…my favorite… Livermush! I had a livermush biscuit and a coffee for $ 2.50!!! This is a locals place. I was in a tie and had a lot of curious looks but also was welcomed. Lots of seniors, working men, a few folks with kids. Good people looking for a good meal. The décor is decidedly NASCAR. No joke. Really. Tons of memorabilia and even collector hoods of cars on the ceiling. I really love diners and really love the place. I will go back for lunch.

This is the essential hole in the wall that all the locals eat at. The food is simple and the menu changes daily. The wait staff is the best and they have the best cheese burger in town. the food is inexpensive and be sure to try the pie as well but order early as is sometimes sells out. Again don’t expect fancy but the food makes it worth while.
