Good food, but really? 1.50 for a bowl or white rice? The up charge is a bit much, I don’t like it when I am nickeled and dimed at restaurants.

Had food delivered from Valet Gourmet from Thai Orchid. It was still fresh and delicious! Excellent flavor on the large portion of Pad Thai and the absolute BEST crab rangoons I’ve ever put in my mouth! The fried rice was just meh… but the crab rangoons Pad Thai stole the show!

My wife and I stopped here for lunch while in town for a conference. There were about a dozen lunch specials on the menu. Each includes a bowl of soup(Tom Yum during our visit) and a spring roll. I ordered beef with basil — my favorite Thai dish — and it was delicious. You can request varying levels of heat. I ordered it 4 out of 5. Our server(the owner, too, I think) gave me a look like I was going to be sorry, but it was just the right level of heat. A couple Singha’s took care of the heat. They also provide a tray of chopped peppers and red pepper on request that can be used to adjust the heat. My wife ordered a chicken tempura dish that was also delicious. I overheard the owner say she’s closing for a month to go back to Thailand, which helps explain why the food is so authentic. It was thee best meal I ate my entire visit to Asheville.

My wife and I stopped in here when we were visiting the Grove Arcade. From the outside, it didn’t look overly impressive, but the interior was very nicely decorated and well maintained. Our lunch began with two cups of a spicy soup. I’m not sure what it was as the waitress just brought it out, but it was quite good. It had chicken, onions, small pieces of celery, and a couple of other things that are escaping me at the moment. It was very good; we both enjoyed it. I ordered the Bangkok Chicken and forgot to tell them that I wanted it mild. Expecting to be breathing fire after my first bite, I was surprised at how un-spicy it was. The chicken itself was so-so. It was a bit heavy on breading, and a bit light on actual chicken. It wasn’t horrible, just not that great. It came with white rice and a spring roll. You can’t mess up white rice, and the spring roll was quite good. However, it did remind me of the PF Chang’s frozen spring rolls that I sometimes get when I want to get my Chinese food fix at home. My wife ordered a noodle stir fry with chicken and mixed vegetables. She really enjoyed hers. Like mine, it came with a spring roll. The dishes were $ 9 each. For the portions and quality, this was a bargain. Overall, we enjoyed our experience. I would go back there again if I had a Thai craving in Asheville.

Fried Calamari Appetizer is a must! House salad with peanut dressing was amazing. Pad Thai was delicious. The best Thai food we’ve had in Asheville. Give Thai Tara a try. You’ll be glad you did!

I think this may be the only Thai restaurant in Asheville that’s open on Sunday. Their portions are generous and the flavors are very authentic. The Red Beef Curry is rich, full of meat and veggies and oh so SPICY! The Lad Na noodles are so comforting. It’s as if a Thai mother invited you to her home for dinner. Overall Thai Tara has amazing flavors and large portions. The service however is not much to speak of… Also BEWARE of their spice levels. Number 5 will blow your socks off!

Not horrible, but not impressive either. Had Pad Thai with pork, but tasted like bleached chicken. My husband had garlic pork and it was very dry. Not very busy and the only waiter had a hard time keeping drinks full.

I’ve been there twice and won’t be back. Both times the woman who must be the owner who always takes our order will never listen to me! I have told her specifically which vegetables I like in my ginger dish and both times she ignores me and brings me a plate of things I don’t like. It’s too expensive for the portion and for the quality. Also, if you go there, plan on spending 2 hours because they are grossly understaffed. I think it is just this one woman and a cook. I miss the other Thai restaurant that used to be in that same location! I don’t think this place will last long if they have to depend on repeat customers. If they can survive on the tourists who know nothing of them, they might have a chance.

NO. JUSTNO. I used to go there all the time when it was Thai Basil, but Thai Tara seems overpriced, understaffed and the food is just simply not as good. I went there one time since it changed to Thai Tara and hated it, but thought I would give it one more chance. BIGMISTAKE. Terrible experience, we got berated and yelled at by the cook for returning a less than satisfactory dish and then were ordered to get out. Never going back, nope, it’s just not how you run a business.(This is the only«one star» review I have ever left; it was that bad.)

Not a good place to eat if your eating alone. They make no reasonable accommodation for single folks. I tried to order a single spring roll to accompany my meal, they said I would have to order 4 of them. I won’t eat there again. Thai Orchid is more accomodating.

We came on a Sunday afternoon, and this was one of two places open after the others closed at 3. It turned out to be our luck, because the Crab Rangoon was the best I’ve ever had! The entrée was also delicious, but the appetizer stole the show. Highly recommend it! Great business to stay open when the others close, too. Kudos!

Went here on whim. I’m a Unilocaler! Whim is not really my thing but my annoyed husband was poking at me when he «spontaneously» said we should try it EVEN though I was itching to a try this place that sounded fab right next door. BUT that fun married word«compromise» came to mind so Thai food it is! I pick my battles carefully! Anyway ordered the pad Thai with chicken. Big portion and pretty good. Typical I suppose but I’m not a huge Thai gal so I played it safe. He got the fried chili seafood dinner thing. Neither of us liked it. Flavor was just not good to us. Seafood portion was pretty good but again didn’t matter because it was all flavored the same. The lady who helped us, possible a manager was sweet and had a good sense of humor which was cool! Sodas are not fountain so be aware. All in all I was ok. My expectations were not that high so I was not disappointed but my hubby was less than satisfied. We’re not from the area but I do not think I would return. But again good service!
