CLOSED. At least there hasn’t been any activity over the last couple months, and yesterday I saw a posting for back rent required from the landlord. Therefore, I can only assume.

I came here by recommendation from a chef I know. He swore by their seafood dishes. I’m a big seafood lover and very picky with fish. I would much rather go to Psari(previously known as Greek Captain) on 36th Ave over Atki. Psari’s portions are much larger. I ordered the broiled swordfish and it was tiny and bland. Next time I’ll order a bunch of apps to share because those seem more appealing.

Haven’t had a chance to check out all the Greek seafood places in the nabe, so why not start here since a quick search reveals this as one of the top two rated, the other place being one that does not take reservations. To start off, we went with the acclaimed grilled octopus appetizer. For entrees, we choose the charcoaled swordfish steak, grilled shrimps and calimari, and the mediterranean sea bass(wanted the red snapper but it wasn’t available). Each entrée comes with a side of your choice so we had the Horta(steamed wild greens), roasted lemon potatoes, and Sparagia(grilled asparagus w/EVOO) respectively. After gettin our orders in via the erasable marker menu(which I kind of liked), we patiently waited pondering what tastes would lie ahead… The one big negative was the fact that the food took a noticeably long time to be prepared. We wouldn’t have minded so much if the appetizer we had ordered had come out early so we could munch on something(other than the pita w/olive oil which was so-so at best) while we waited on the main dishes. However, the timing was off as they brought out the octopus dish along with all the entrees and sides in one blow. We decided to order a bottle of red wine in the interim. They have a decent wine list of about 5 reds and 5 whites(I believe all Greek). On to the food. Now I’m not exactly sure what concoction they were grilling the octopus in, but I must say, this was by far the tastiest grilled octopus dish I’ve had in a very long time. I’d say it’s a must get if you haven’t already been graced by it’s fresh juices. The swordfish steak was not as tough as I thought it would be and the grilled shrimps and calamari were pretty standard. The sea bass which we got whole(they offer u to de-bone it) was very fresh and satisfying to the palate. The sides were nothing spectacular but did not fall short of my expectations either. In general, everything seemed to be prepared fresh from the fish to the wild greens. As far as the service goes, I did have to ask several times to refill my water. However, keep in mind I definately drink more water and at a faster pace than your average patron. But it also shouldn’t be an excuse for any lack of attentiveness. And again, the mistake on the timing of the food is a no-no taken right from restaraunt 101. One thing I will say is that the prices are very fair and reasonable. You won’t burn a whole in your pocket and you get what you pay for. Also the bathrooms are clean although the old world Greek music was a bit too loud for me in there(maybe it was my hangover talking). All in all, I’d definately come back again just to order that octopus and maybe try the non-seafood dishes to compare to all the other Greek fare in the area. So if you’re looking for non pretentious, authentic Greek seafood with modest prices, by all means come check it out. Efkaristo!

The only thing grilled that was better than the swordfish was me by the stafff when I walked in the place. Kind of got the«non-hellenic» look when I came in but quickly broke down all barriers to salvage a great dining experience. I recommend the swordfish and grilled calamari.

To be fair, I don’t eat seafood so coming here was a different experience for me than it might be for most, but I think its important to also shed light on the non-seafood-eater’s experience here at Akti. To start, the service was pretty good, excellent if compared with nearby restaurants. The food is hands down the best on the avenue if you’re looking for good Greek fare. I had the chicken souvlaki, which was juicy and tender, with a the lemon potatoe side. The lemon potatoes were seriously tasty, probably not the most healthy item on the menu, but worth every calorie. All in all, if you’re out for a good meal in a pleasant atmosphere, I recommend Akti. If you’re looking for some hoes and want to listen to dance music all night, head to one of the many«cafes» nearby.

My husband took me here for my birthday last night. I know he really wanted to go to Greenfields but I’ve been interested in trying Akti for a longgg time. The service and food were excellent. We had a greek salad, saganaki, the three dip sampler and the seafood meal for two. It was fantastically good — my husband loved it too. Awesome, fresh, pretty and delicious food! Highly recommend!!!

I always come here when guests are in town, a testament to how much I love this place. Portions are HUGE, prices are super reasonable, and even the wine list is awesome. Service is great and there’s no rush to leave. The décor is stylish and modern, so a good low-key date place. In summer, there’s an outdoor seating area that’s nice to eat at. I’ve eaten at other Greek places in Astoria around the 30th ave. or broadway area, but this is the best place I’ve been to yet(ok, cavo is actually really good too, but a hike from where I live). Plus, you can make an evening of it in this location(drinks and dessert at any of the surrounding lounges/cafes). I love this place!

One of the best spots in Astoria. I second the recommendation for the grilled calamari. And even though Akti is famous for its seafood, Sunday brunch was better than expected. Sitting outside, my two friends and I got chicken crepes with feta, french toast with apricot jam, and a salad with a fish sandwich. Service was great. I loved all three entrees at brunch as well as dinner, so I can’t help but give it 5 stars.

Fish was excellent. Grilled Mediterranean sea bass was fresh and prepared perfectly. Baked red snapper with black beans was very good. Grilled shrimp was excellent. Greek fries and lemon potatoes were just OK. Not sure why everyone raves about them. Asparagus were really good. Service was great. Very friendly and helpful. Prices reasonable. Highly recommend.

My friends and I accidentally hit this spot while cruising around Astoria looking for some delicious Greek delicacies. The ambience was nice. I expected the seafoam/blue colour scheme because Akti does mainly serve seafood. The service was on point and the prices are affordable. The food is traditional Greek and insanely flavorful. We ordered these croquettes which had a fantastic tzsatsiki sauce, fried battered little fish, and grilled octopus. I was skeptical of my friends ordering octopus because I’ve never had it before. But I’m glad that they ordered it. The grilled octopus was so tender and delicious! I would definitely come back here again whenever I’m in Queens and in the mood for some amazing Greek fare. Oh how I love you Astoria, for having such amazing food.

I am not sure why this place doesnt have more reviews, but I am SO glad I decided to try it out based on just reading the 2 reviews posted before me. This place is perfect for casual dates, first dates, dinner out with a bunch of friends; you can hold a conversation, there are some cute waiters who help you make a decision in the face of an overwhelming menu, and give you just the right amount of attention. The bread they served was perfectly warm and lightly toasted; for appetizers we had the phyllo dough stuffed with spinach n feta cheese and it was just gorgeous. the shrimp saginaki was great too. and the Olives… mmm olives! loved the marinade… in fact we were so full after appetizers it took us 10 minutes to get started on our entrée(meditteranean sea bass with roasted lemon potatoes) when it arrived… the fish was PERFECTLY done and i think thats the litmus test for any Greek seafood restaurant. I really want to go back soon and try their calamari and octopus, two things i have a weakness for and still dont dont find many places that do those well, even in NYC. Hands down, this place is awesome. must go, again and again and again. It will in fact definitely factor in if when i decide to move to Astoria/30th ave in the near future! :)

A highly successful and modern take on Astoria’s classic Greek fare. Great salads and Greek favorites like fried calamari start the meal right. The fresh fish hot off the grill is hard to beat. The wine list could use some more non-Greek varieties, and the white-board ordering system is unnecessary. Otherwise, a welcoming, vibrant neighborhood spot, perfect for a summer evening get-together.

Fabulous. Hands down the best octopus and calamari I’ve ever had. The octopus was extremely tender with a light grill flavor and the calamari was fresh, grilled with lemon and olive oil. It was a refreshing change from the normal battered calamari. Other yummy things to try– Lemon potatoes, traditional greek salad, roasted red pepper spread.

Can’t say enough great things about this place! As neighborhood foodies, my brother and I couldn’t wait to try out the newest restaurant around the corner and we were not disappointed. Akti specializes in seafood, but their menu is a diverse offering of Greek specialities. They have whole fish and some grilled meats, but also offer small plates(apps). We eat there almost once a week now and recognize many other regulars. Sometimes we just share a few small plates, other times we’ll get small plates and a whole fish to share. Everything is tasty and fresh. I recommend the fish croquettes, squid, and whole fish – but seriously – have not had anything bad there. The space is modern and hip but not overly trendy – very relaxed. I’ve gone in there in jeans and flip-flops as well as dressed for a night out and I’ve always felt comfortable, as the clientele is fairly diverse(families, hipsters, Greeks and non-Greeks). There’s indoor and outdoor seating(our favorite) and the staff is very attentive and efficient. They actually seem to encourage lingering after meals and the owner and co. are always around – very friendly. If you check out any of the Astoria bloogers like, Joey in Astoria and Foodista, they’ve given Akti great reviews too.
