We came here from Washington our family trip to Tillamook with the kids. The atmosphere was great, we love the loft upstairs.(We didn’t really understand the 2 different menu options downstairs was burgers & such, upstairs was pizza, pasta, salad… But when you come to a restaurant they shouldn’t basically make you choose at the door…) Anyways we chose pizza, made in their wood fire brick ovens. It was delicious. I had the Nut Red ale it was great, not too hoppy just smooth. My husband had the Divinity, it was a Raspberry/Marionberry beer. It was the best fruit type beer I have ever tasted. The Nut Red honey mustard dressing was so good too!

Full disclosure — I only had beer. I didn’t try any of their food. So the solid 5-stars is for their beer. I tried the Optimist IPA, and the Working Girl Coffee Porter. Both were incredible — I’m no professional beer taster, but I give them a «damn good» rating. I swear I know lots of fancy beer words, but I’ll not bore you with those, just try them. The other reason for the 5 stars is the space. The history in the space is pretty incredible. Fort George is housed in an old auto company building, and they’ve done a great job at keeping it looking historical, while making some beautiful updates to the space. Every one of the bar stools appears to be hand-forged with their logo and fancy design. The staff, while not necessarily the reason for the 5 stars, was pretty good. They did know their beer, and poured it, what more can you ask? They didn’t blow me away, but I’d prefer that over the staff that go overboard trying to impress you. Ultimately, if you’re rolling through Astoria for any reason, stop there. There’s a number of good breweries there and they are all fantastic, I highly recommend stopping by all of them, but if you were to choose just 1, I’d go here.

Can’t get enough! My husband and I stop here during EVERY trip to Astoria. Great, relaxed vibe, kid friendly, fresh drinks and brick oven pizza! We usually order the stuffed sweetie peppers and the sausage and pepper pizza. I drink ciders and my hubby drinks IPA’s. Always tasty and well carbonated. Only criticism would be that we recently attempted to contact the staff member in charge of private events. We literally called and left at least four messages, never hearing back. We actually didn’t get through to her until a visit to Astoria, when she happened to be working in the restaurant while we dined there. Needless to say, we didn’t book our event in the Lovell showroom due to our hesitancy to work with this staff member.

We stopped in for lunch and a couple of beers and ate up stairs in the pizzeria. I loved the Magnanimous IPA! This was one of the best IPAs I’ve had(and I’ve tried hundreds including brewing my own). The pizza was also fantastic! It came out perfect and was very tasty. The only distraction from our visit was a somewhat long wait, but we passed the time by drinking beer — so no harm done. We were also there on Valentines Day and on a Sunday, which could have made the wait time longer than usual.

We enjoyed two days in Astoria this past summer & just wandered into this place while walking the dock area. It was very nice — meaning their beers were good throughout their line of offerings & their pub food was also above average. When we got there, seating was actually pretty full, but we like sitting at the bar so we did. They could actually have a bit more of a bar area as part of it extends into kind of a dead space where you feel isolated. We sat there first since there was no other place, then moved into the main area when space opened up. We did a couple of rounds of the sampler beers & a couple of dozen oysters and they were all good. We’d go back here if we go through this area again.

Craving some really good pub food and fresh beer? You won’t have to look further, come in here! Everyone is really friendly, the orders came quick to the table and everything was fresh and hot — besides the drinks, they were perfectly cold and good to drink(but also fresh ;)). The burger was medium, just as I ordered, and tasted SO good! It was the«Hamburger» with additional bacon on top — hmmmm! The fish and chips were a really surprise as under the batter was buried a real treasure: albacore tuna! How delicious! The homemade fries tasted good, nothing extraordinary but they did their job as a side very well :) The tasting tray of their beers comes with some explanations and you can«play» and try to guess which one is which — more fun time while drinking ;) If you stay in this town or drive through Astoria be sure not to miss this great brewery!

We stayed in Astoria for a night during a trip along the Oregon coast. After checking in at our hotel we were in want of food. We saw good reviews so we went in hope of good beer and ordinary«pub grub». We got really really tasty fish and chips — made from albacore tuna — and a very tasty burger. Seriously, the burger was one of the best burgers I had in the last 5 years. We ordered it medium and it came hot and cooked to the point. The fries were crisp, just good fries. Period. Service was friendly and quick, not rushing us out when we had finished the food but hadn’t finished our drinks. Talking about the beer: I had a tasting menu of available stouts — February is «Stout Month» — and they were all very good and I had some interesting flavors to try. They have a different menu on the 2nd floor but we decided to stay on the first floor. We saw a mixed crowd, some families as well as couples, older people. We’ll be back.

Review is for the top story of the business as that’s all we’ve ever had the want to visit! The beers are consistently great, rarely is there a beer we don’t enjoy or at least appreciate. And a brewery having Stout Month? Yes please! The pizza is consistently delicious. We frequently order the truffle pizza and it’s always great! Crust is consistently cooked just right, never soggy or over done, the sauce to cheese ratio is again, consistently good! The soups are hearty and flavorful, come in on a cold day? Grab the soup of the day– so great! The growlers are some of the best around, the smaller ones make great water bottles, when not full of beer. Make the drive from Portland or wherever– spend the day in Astoria and drink some great beer!

We are beer snobs. My husband has a brewery in our house. The Quick Wit is the best wit beer we’ve ever tasted. We’ve been to Belgium. We’ve done a Belgium beer tour. Quick Wit is amazing. You can taste every ingredient. The pizza tasted so fresh. The crust was perfect. The service was just right. We eat out quite a bit. Our standards are very high. One of the best brewery restaurants ever!

I adore this brewery. It was our first night in Astoria on a long trip down the 101 and after checking in, we were in much need of food and beer. Fort George was perfect. They have a few different sites on the same lot, so pick and choose wisely, according to your needs. We initially thought about sticking to the first floor pub, but then realized it was way too crowded. On to the second floor. Well, that spot was super crowded for food and drinks as well. We decided just to get drinks there. In the meantime, we learned about the Lovell just across the lot. Same owner, smaller, some of the same food. It fit just right. Lovell was a small space housed inside the actual brewery, Kind of humid, kind of smelly(in a good brewery way), but all kinds of perfect. Ended up getting a couple of slices and tacos(why aren’t their tortillas warmed on a comal or on the stove?). Oh well, great beer and superb service!

Wow, Ft. George sure has changed in the last few years. Their expansion into the entire upstairs is awesome for wait times and a great warehouse space. They only offer pizzas and calzones from the wood fired oven. It’s a bummer that you can’t order off the original menu while sitting on the 2nd floor. They have an odd system that the customer has to physically go down the steep spiral staircase and place a to go order at the bar, and go back to pick it up when the food is ready. This seems like a weird policy… are the two floors not on the same POS system? Why can’t our very attentive 2nd floor server drop the order for us? I still love me my Ft. George Vortex, and the Astoria experience, but this weird policy almost bumped this to a 3 star review update.

Get: Cheese Pizza Magnanimous IPA Tomato Bacon & Bleu Cheese soup On our annual pilgrimage to beaches unknown, the Fort George Brewery was a shining beacon of hope for good food and good beer. This double-decker behemoth of suds and grub had all the aesthetic appeal of historic, beachside gold and has easily found its way into my heart and on my list of «we will go here every time — NOMATTERWHAT!» Upstairs is pizza. Downstairs is burgers. This is how it was described and exactly how it functioned. We clambered upstairs via the spiral staircase — not exactly the best method to travel with a baby in a car seat — but we managed. A beautiful view of the city and river-front was easily visible through enormous windows and seating was plentiful at either the bar, tables, or bench seating. The service was really impeccable. Typically when you see a family of five with three children under the age of 7, eye-rolling and huffing ensues. Fort George did the opposite and offered us one of the best service experiences I’ve ever had. Very accommodating, speedy and very knowledgeable about their products. The cheese pizza on the children’s menu was a supernova of flavor. Doing a cheese pizza right shows that you take pride in your foundation, and I would say you can do no wrong moving up the ladder from that. The soup was rich and delicious(although I believe this particular variety is not a standard menu item). The Magnanimous IPA is nectar spilled from the goblets of Gods. Absolutely my favorite beer as of this review. In a can, it is very, very good. But on tap? It is stupendous. In my eyes, Fort George Brewery has captured the crown for the northern Oregon coast as «Best Brewery and Eatery». Everything was great and we will return with smiling faces. PROS: Food! Beer! Service! Atmosphere and ambiance! EVERYTHING! CONS: That damn spiral staircase if you have babies…

There is a reason Fort George is so popular. They have wonderful beers, and some great food. We were happy to go off season, on a weekday. No matter how much I enjoy this establishment, I would never visit on season on a weekend. It is always uncomfortably crowded. Fort George Brewery screams«Oregon». You do not need to worry about the beer, it is lovely. You need not worry about the food, everything is delicious. You need not to worry about your dog, or having kiddos. There is water for the dogs outside at the oversized picnic tables, and a simple kids menu. The fish and chips are very good. I recommend trying whatever they have on special. Today we tried the Jambalaya. It was heavily spiced and mouthwatering. Low and behold, the shrimp was actually cooked correctly! They were tender and not rubbery, what a treat. There was some tasty rockfish in the dish. I really recommend Fort George, but the crowds are a extreme put off for me in the summer. The parking is non existent. However, you will find me there in the winter on a Thursday, with the dog, as happy as a clam.

Astoria is a neat town, but I am not sure I would care about it as much if it were not for Fort George. I am willing to drive 3 hours to spend time in this town just so I can be at this brewery. I love, love, love it here! There beer is pretty top notch. Of course I love some more than others, but the Optimist is #1 in my mind. It is always a good idea to try out the 3 way IPA as well. I believe it changes every year, but don’t quote me on that. I recently had the pleasure of watching a benefit concert at the Brewery(for the Astoria Column). I got to watch Blind Pilot play up close and personal all while drinking these amazing beers(in actual glass jar. You never get to have REAL glass at concerts). It was truly a special evening and I could not have been more excited to see one of my favorite bands play at one of my favorite breweries. I remember coming to FG back before they had the upstairs area. The place was a little less known then, and they had much less space. Nowadays you can find FG beer in pretty much any grocery store/liquor store in the Northwest. The more popular they have become, the bigger the brewery has grown. Naturally. I really enjoy the space and the ambiance. Not to mention the service, which has always been top notch and friendly. If you are near Astoria and you don’t stop by FG… you are a dumb-dumb and missing out on the best thing this town has to offer.

We had a great experience during our first trip to Fort George a few years back that we excitedly came back on our recent trip. The beers are excellent. We tried a bunch of the beers off of their regular menu(including a really fantastic spruce tip beer) and then also got a bottle to share of one of their BA Stouts(Also really great). Food here is awesome — you can get everything from snacks to cheese plates to fish and meat — and everything is just stellar. We ate inside, and I was surprised to see how packed the place was for being lunchtime on a random Thursday. Unfortunately the upstairs wasn’t open yet, but I’d like to try going upstairs next time we go — and there definitely will be a next time!
