Very disappointed!
I saw the doctor twice and the worst problem is not even the hour and half me and my wife had to wait to be seen (the second time just to get test results!).
My wife got very high level numbers from the blood test and the doctor told us to see a gastroenterologist ASAP, he gave us a number (WRONG) and told us to call him in case they would tell us there was no available spot for weeks so he could have make a call and let us see the specialist right away since it’s an emergency …
The same day I call the wrong number twice and then I research the right number online, they tell me there won’t be a spot for another month so I call the doctor right away.
His secretary asks me what I need and I explain right away, without a blink she tells me I can see the specialist the day after at 12.15p, to be sure I asked which office was (since the specialist has 2 offices in Astoria) and she tells me the one I had was correct (so she definitely understood what I was asking).
My wife (already scared by what’s going on with her body) takes the day off, pays the cab ride to get there and leaves our newborn baby with the nanny.
She gets there and they tell her her name is not on the list and the doctor is not even there!
The worst is yet to come … she calls Doctor Mastakouris and he says he never said he could get us in and she should call and reserve by herself, he actually said to her she misunderstood what he said … but WE were both there and WE both understood the same EXACT thing, there’s no room for misunderstanding that!!! So he lied twice and my wife now lost time, money and even worst she’s now even more preoccupied about her situation and with no reservation to see a specialist!!!
My first impression with the doctor was good but how in the world can I trust a doctor and his staff after something like this???

I’ve been using Dr. Mastakouris as my PCP for about 3 years but now that my insurance has changed, I have to find a new doctor (which is a positive). My experience with him has been ok. For my first appointment, I had to wait over an hour to see the doctor, which was only for a 10-​minute check up. I learned my lesson and decided to schedule all future appointments first thing in the morning, which still had about a 15 – 20 minute wait. Most recently, I’ve been trying to call the office for a few weeks and the phone is either busy, I’d call and get hung up on, get put on hold for 30 minutes then get hung up on, or they have their out of business hours message up during normal business hours. The doctor is ok, but I haven’t had much experience with other PCPs to compare him with, but the office staff is the worst I’ve dealt with out of all my other specialty doctors. They say they’ll call you back but you best believe that they will not. You kind of have to do their job for them and constantly remind them what you need them to do. I’m happy I am moving on from this service. It’s not right that a service like this is provided for the medical industry (or to anyone), and there should be more care and thoughtfulness out into this industry with sick patients an people trying to live a healthy life.

In regard to Mike K review, this patient came to our office and was informed by the front desk and then biller that his insurance was effective march 1^st. and instead of trying to find a solution for this patient his first response was to be nasty, rude and demanded to be seen and for us to backdate his claim. we do not commit fraud with insurance companies and therefore we apologize to Mike K for this inconvenience.

I found Dr. Mastakouris by chance, after looking for a PCP in Astoria for years! He seems to know his stuff and has excellent bedside manner (not easy to find!). He explained everything and took his time. He personally took my phone call the next day when I called for test results. The office feels really serious and professional, with other good doctors. This place is the only place who gave me a same-​day appointment when I was really sick, which meant a lot. Yes, I had to wait, but now I found my PCP in Astoria! I recommend him.
