Im. Upping by one star for pickup because they gave us extra free soup and were nice and quick. However, any dish that isn’t fried and covered in sauce lacks some flavor. Even that wonton soup could use a little more. But they still give you fortune cookies when other places wanna charge you.

Always had consistent good Chinese food here. Fast service and fast delivery. Free soda for over $ 12 orders. Sometimes gives an extra

Went here on Sunday. Got the chicken/broccoli(‘spicy’) and the kung pow beef. It sucked. So disappointing, didn’t taste like anything and certainly was not remotely spicy. Not so sure which part of the bird the chicken ‘meat’ came from, I’m assuming it’s some reconstituted slaughterhouse offal that comes frozen and pre-formed to look like like standard shredded chicken. Little bag of noodles was as stale as the day is long. I needed a few beers and copious amounts of salt and hot sauce to make it palatable. What a disaster. Got a free soda, though! Alright!

If you have ever had the displeasure of walking by this place to pick up your food, then you have experienced the need to cover your nose to protect yourself from the revolting stench that encompasses you. I live a block away and stopped ordering from them this year because they have drunk homeless people literally laying/urinating/defecating right outside EVERYDAY. You have to literally step over them if you’re walking on the street side. I have complained to them on several occasions and they never do anything about it. This place should be shut down because of the filthy health violations taking place right outside their door. If that’s how they operate in the open, I can only imagine what goes on inside where they’re not subject to scrutiny. Food is just ok. Please do the neighborhood a favor and don’t patronize this biz until it does its part to keep our streets clean and safe!

I live a block from here so I stop in and get food every now and then. I prefer to order from Sun Wah but the one thing that New Ho Wah does well is crispy beef and when I crave it, I stop on by. I’ve never ordered them for delivery so can’t speak to wait times, but if you want crispy beef, you won’t be disappointed.

I only come here in a bind and usually only if i want a wanton soup or something. Not a fan of their moo shu. They are too pricey with so many other better options in the hood.

I ordered take out and went to this place in person to pick up my order. It’s the most horrible bland tasting Chinese food I’ve ever had. The take out girl at the front desk was so rude and screaming over the phone at customers that were calling in, said she was going to call the police. Sounded like Someone was not happy with their food s d just called her repetitively to complain. 1. Wonton soup — no taste, I asked for noodles and no noodles in it. The meat inside wonton was gross. 2. Eggrolls– disgusting– they are only filled with cabbage, that’s it! 3. Broccoli and rice — I asked for sautéed broccoli but somehow this was drenched in sauce with tofu. No taste not flavorful at all, it was like they just took a jar of soy sauce and threw it on the broccoli. I can cook better than this! I will never order food from here again. There’s a great deal of competition on broadway for food but this place will not last. Food is gross! Only good thing about this place is its open kitchen and is clean but they need to hire new chefs!

Finding a good Chinese restaurant in Astoria has been a challenge since I’ve lived here almost 10 years. This is the best I’ve found so far. — Chicken is good and not mystery meat — Garlic sauce is good — Lo mien is kind of bland — Crab Rangoon is not your typical large pocket dumplings, very small and over fried so not good But overall the chicken is good and so is the garlic sauce

Don’t even think about it. Really bad food and on top of that the guy who works there at night is cheap and rude. Not a good place at all.

Horrible and they have gotten WORSE!!! I placed an order for mixed vegetables and chicken with mix vegetables and both to have little sauce. When I received it, both were seriously drowning in sauce. For my chicken and mix vegetables, there was only like 4 small pieces of chicken. For both ordered the dominant vegetable was massive chunks of soggy onions. As I looked further I noticed that the food was a very thin layer of it, the rest was ALLRICE. I am talking about ¼ cup of food and 2 cups of loaded rice! So I called up and complained, the worker said he talked to the cook and that I was basically lying and refused to exchange it even after I told him I would text him a picture of it to prove that I was not lying. So since he gave me no remedy, wouldn’t listen to me, I just told him to look online for my review and what I think of «New» Ho Wah This place SUCKS.

nothing special at all. I order Garlic Broccoli, and I get about 5 pieces of broccoli, and the rest of the slop is other vegetables.

I’ve come to the conclusion that one of the secrets to survival in New York living is Chinese take-out. Whether single or married, living by yourself or others, Chinese take-out food has been the silent witness to many conversations, whether it’s a conversation with another person or with oneself. :-) That is why I’ve joined the rest of humanity in New York in having a go-to Chinese take-out restaurant. Ho Wah is five blocks away from where we live but I have reconnoitered all the other restaurants and it seems Ho Wah will pass a reasonable test of cleanliness. Well, you still cannot eat food off its floors, but really, who does that in New York? As for the food, I share fellow Unilocaler Shaun H.‘s solid judgment on the fried rice and the fried chicken. Seriously, their Yang Chow is serious eats! I’ve not tried a lot of their dishes as we seldom order take-out and when we do, I sort of predictably choose the reliable ones like Yang Chow and seafood soup. Speaking of which, what really won me over to this restaurant was their seafood soup a winter or two ago during which the flu knocked me hard on my back. The soup did wonders. So, go ahead, find your own Chinese take-out place but if you’re in Astoria, make sure you try Ho Wah.

I live in the middle of what I like to call the Cantonese triangle. There are two other Chinese restaurants that encompass two blocks within my house and to be honest this has to be my least favorite. Not because the food is bad, it isn’t but it is also not exceptional. Taste of China, when I eat their egg rolls, i think, wow this is a damn good egg roll. This place goes into every other category. Just ok. The white rice was a little sticky, but done, the chicken was ok, a little rubbery but not bad, but it just lacked that pazzow that I like when I eat sweet and sour chicken. Thats all.

At first sight, this place looks like any other chinese«fastfood» places, but there are a few items they do better than average in my opinion. They’re pork fried rice, beef broccoli, chicken wing(deep fried), lo mein(though a bit salty), brown rice and stir-fried/steamed vegetables. Some other things that i’ve tried on the menu were not so great. For example: stir-fried chicken(with rice or lo mein) and buffallo wings. I’ve seen many recurring customers order other things in the menu, so the above is definitely not an exclusive list of what’s good and bad. But from the things I have tried, more turned out good than bad, and that’s definitely above average for chinese food places like this.
