We had a great time fishing with Leaf yesterday. He was a great guide, personable, kind and very friendly. He worked great with the kids as well as the adults. We ended up landing 4 Chinook and 14 sturgeons. Great day. I would recommend Skookum Fishing to anyone who wants to catch fish out of the Astoria area.

Capn Leaf rocks! We all limited out on salmon and crab in a few hours. Leaf did it all in a professional and friendly and entertaining manner. Highly recommended.

Thank you Captain Leaf! Unbelievable memories today @ Buoy 10 in Astoria! The kids and Kelsey reeled in enough salmon to last us the whole year [10 fish including a 19 pounder]. Thanks again Skookum! #buoy10 #astoriaoregon #oregonfishing

Terrific – caught the biggest fish of my life. Good boat, well equipped, and Leaf has a hundred tricks up his sleeve. He knows WHERE the fish are, WHEN, and uses a whole variety of tackle, bait, and techniques to make sure you get a shot. It helps to be there in late August, when there are a million or so salmon off Astoria, but that said, Leaf had us catching fish from the first minutes of our trip until we limited out. Importantly, Leaf was careful about safety, educating us before starting out on everything from the water temperature to the location of kill switches and fire extinguishers. I am a travel writer and routinely meet guides who DON’T do that. The only reason I didn’t give five stars is because I’m not one of those people who gives five stars to everything. Leaf is a pro; if anyone can put you on fish, he can.

Mr Geraghty(Leaf) is a long time Astoria resident and avid, fully licensed fishing guide. During my recent trip to the area, I had the chance to fish with Skookum Fishing Charter for Sturgeon on the lower Columbia. Leaf owns and operates a clean, well-stocked, and comfortable boat. The day before he had gone down to Seaside with his family and gathered an obscene quantity of fresh sand shrimp for bait. He also brought many other types of bait as back ups, in case the fish were interested in different offerings, and iced, non-alcoholic refreshments. Unlike the other guide boats Ive seen and been on, Leaf’s operation was uncrowded and unhurried – but really focused on good fishing and good memories. During this trip we used his local knowledge to work several different areas resulting in many hook ups and boated, keeper fish. Unexpectedly, I also had the opportunity to play a large, over sized fish(approximately 9 feet long) With Leaf’s help, I was able to get the fish to the surface, take some amazing pictures for my unbelieving friends, and release the fish unharmed. All in all, I had the trip of a lifetime and can’t wait to go out again with Leaf for salmon and crabs. ~CM
