Stamatis is delicious. True authentic Greek food. The grilled octopus made me realize what I have been missing all my life. I have never even tried octopus before I tried the one here. Now I get grilled octopus wherever i go, but it’s never as good as stamatis. This place is amazing. From the musaka to the salmon to all the meat dishes. Delicious. A true hidden gem

Hands down the best Greek Food in Astoria. Amazingly big portions and quality does not suffer.. Menu is in Greek and English. Went here on a Sunday night and it was filled with locals. Herd about it from Greek locals who claim it’s the only place they will eat out. Started out with grilled octopus fried feta. My girl got land souvlaki and I got the mousaka. Got free competency dessert as well. Even though I can not move right now this place is a can’t miss Greek spot in the heart of the Astoria food scene. Down right awesome

Satisfying comfort food! The wine, fresh fish, the olive oil & the moussaka was DIVINE! Very old world Greece atmosphere, lots of Greek families celebrating, men drinking red wine out of mafioso glasses. The service was superb and very friendly. So Happy I went!

Restaurant was absolutely packed at 3:30pm on Sunday full of families enjoying their Sunday brunch.(Reminds me of Chinese dim sum occasions where it’s also a tradition for families to gather and celebrate the week.) Food was fresh and fabulous. We ordered calamari, simply grilled. Perfectly charcoal-ed and dressed with olive oil. Greek salad was crisp, feta yummy. Disappointed there wasn’t any anchovies. Bronzino was one of the largest I’ve seen in a restaurant. So moist and flavorful. Must be the best whole grilled fish I’ve had in a long time. Lemony potatoes was pillowy and delicious. My friend has the souvlaki — large portion. There wasn’t anything left on our plates. We left too full but with a smile on our face. Can’t wait to return.

Awesome family style restaurant, with the famous Ms. Stamatis walking through directing the waiter traffic. Definitely make reservations, we came on a Saturday night and the line was out of the door! Call me easy to please but the bread they served with the olive oil was delicious and something not to be left out of my review! I read the lobster was something to not leave without having and it was huge, steaky, and delicious lying in its glorious and bountiful butter sauce. We then ordered the lamb souvlaki and the seafood combo and although the combo was delicious with scallops, crab legs, clams, filet of sole and shrimp. I’ve never had a better lamb souvlaki or better Tzatziki sauce. Check this place out, it’s the traditional Astoria/Greek dining experience!

Came here for lunch today with my husband. We had the antipasto platter, which we both loved. There was so much food we couldn’t finish it. My husband had the Lamb Fricase which he enjoyed every bite of. Kept saying how tender the lamb was and that it was delicious. I had the Moussaka which was amazing. They also gave us free dessert(custard pie) which was a nice surprise. Our waitress was also really good and friendly. Highly recommended, we’ll definitely return here.

The restaurant is great. You feel like you eating in your greek friends house. The octopus was great. I loved the chicken souflaki with the tziki sauce. The servers were very friendly. I think it is competative with most greek restaurants in Astoria.

The food isn’t bad I ordered a Beeftekia its like three beef balls with lettuce tomatoes onions and tzatziki sauce accompanied by either lemon potatoes or french fries. We came on Friday night and it was a little crowded with loud people, not bad if you don’t mind. It gets pretty busy we waited too long for the appetizer but they gave it to us on the house. The food is fresh nothing was stale or greasy looking. We also orders Greek salad which tastes great. The waitstaff wasn’t rude at all but it all depends on the day you come because like I said some days are crazy busy. I would recommend to come try, one thing sucks you got to look for parking.

The best Greek style octopus. Welcoming service. Miss Stamatis is almost always there. I love to see her authentically strong spirit. Our dinner is always flawless. I hope they order my favorite Malamatina glasses.

I give five stars because service and food was good but few times before I tried Greek food I don’t have much knowledge about Greek cuisine, They got huge menu I don’t think any ordinary man can understand under the appetizer or main they just list what they have for example FISHENTRÉES, they just list what they have but I mean fish names, but how I’ll know what kind of ingredients, cooking methods etc. totally confusing menu. I PERSONALLYPREFERSMALLEXPLANATIONABOUTEACHITEM. And even I’m not happy with there wine list. Restaurant has lots of potentials but they are not using in a right way!

Came here on a Saturday night, around 9:00pm with my Greek buddy, who dines here regularly and swears by the authenticity of the food. Since I’m not keen on Greek cuisine I allowed him to make some recommendations; however I ended up vetoing them and went with the pork chops, which he said was also pretty good. We ordered some fried Greek cheese for appetizer and it was really good; I had the pork chops and he order an eggplant dish. I must say that I wasn’t at all impressed with my meal, the pork was a bit hard and there was nothing exciting about the flavors. I tried my buddy’s eggplant, that he was gushing over but I was equally unimpressed with his meal as I was with mine. We were given complimentary dessert, custard I believe, it was OK but it had an extremely sweet glaze that would prohibit anyone from taking more than two small bites. I had a glass of both the red and the white Greek wine and I didn’t care for either :(. Over all the food was a let down The staff was very nice and helpful, my friend spoke to them in Greek which might have helped. The space is nice and relatively large, however I didn’t care for the red carpet on the floor, which could have used a bit of vacuuming nor did I care for the bright lights. This place was not bad just nothing special for me.

Authentic Greek food, Greek servers and true Greek atmosphere. It’s Astoria and there are many Greek restaurants to choose from but there’s no need to look any further. A neighborhood staple and a must visit if you want the true Greek experience in Astoria. The appetizers are great, as well as the entrees and portions are always good. Best part is that you will leave very full and it won’t hurt your wallet too much. We just took my cousin visiting from Greece for the first time and he couldn’t believe the ambiance. He joked that he felt like he was sitting in a restaurant in Athens. As a Greek-American, it’s the closest I will get to Ellada without a passport. My favorite Greek restaurant!

Delicious Greek food. I came on a Sunday night and boy was it packed! I got the meatball meal(came with a few meatballs over rice). Delicious, never had such amazing meatballs. They were uniquely seasoned, and the rice was just as delicious. I knocked off one star because the service was curt and rushed.

This is one of the only places in the city my Greek mother-in-law will eat at. If that’s not a ringing endorsement, then I don’t know what is. Really, though, this is great restaurant in Queens. Granted, it’s really hard to go wrong in this area of town but if you want really authentic food, a great atmosphere, and to practice a little bit of Greek yourself then this is where you should go. I even brought my parents(who are not Greek) and they loved it. The menu is huge and there are almost all of your favourites like spinach pie, meatballs, sided grape leaves and cabbage, grilled lamb, etc. Everything I have tried is really good, and I would definitely recommend the eggplant. The only thing is that this isn’t really the«healthy» type of Greek food you might see in some other restaurants. There is a lot of oil(its olive oil but still) and the cheese dishes are very cheesy. However, it’s delicious and just don’t eat everything on the menu and I think you’ll be fine. The décor is a little plain and kind of dark to be honest. However, the wait staff is incredibly friendly and so I thin that warms the place right up. The is a garden to sit in but it seems to be reasoning every time I go so I haven’t been able to enjoy it. If you find yourself in Astoria and looking for Greek food this place should really make it to the to of your list as you won’t be disappointed.

Opa! Say it. It’s a fun word, isn’t it? Too bad my Greek doesn’t extend much farther but here at Stamatis, that’s OK, or «ehn-dahk-see» as the Hellenics say. I always wanted to experience Astoria and with some friends’ help — I had a great evening. My Irish half is so dominant — my looks, mannerisms, «hollow leg» — I sometimes forget I’m half Greek. This experience brought with it a rush of memories from my childhood and a smile to my face — the mention of lamb dishes like Stifado, others like Pastichio, Moussaka and, yes, smelling the whiff of Pine-Sol at the Greek market we stopped at beforehand reminded me of Mom’s incessant cleaning w/Pine-Sol, bleach and Windex when I was a child — I’m amazed Dad and I had any lungs left — or that the house didn’t blow up! Anyway, Mom’s much older these days and doesn’t make ½ of what she used to cook up so this experience was a nice stroll down memory lane a bit. OK, massive digression — sorry. On to the food. Very good to Excellent! All appetizers were fresh and flavorful — Octopus, Horiatiki salad(cucumber, onion, tomato and feta), the dips, semolina bread — we had a feast before dinner arrived! My lamb chops arrived as I ordered — medium rare. Very good flavor. I could eat a dozen of them but sadly had to settle for four chops. The lemon potato wedges are a required staple. My friend’s lamb with leeks was«Wow»! A braised lamb covered in leeks — really delicious and probably the best item I tasted. I was also impressed with another friend’s eggplant dish. Fun, roomy place for friends/family to gather and become 100% Greek for the evening. Opa!

I was looking for a place that served whole fish, Bronzini to be exact. There are plenty of Greek places in the area that server them and I was searching for the cheapest one. Turned out there were all around $ 30, no matter where I checked. I ended up here, just cause I got tired walking around and I was so hungry at that point. I walked past the long counter, with an array of take out food displayed, and got to the hostess. I was a bit intimidated by her and her tough exterior and Greek attitude. I decided to eat here anyway. Even the waiter had the same type of attitude, so I just took it as a cultural thing. Right away they gave me some great tasting slices of semolina bread drizzled in olive oil and herbs. I ordered the Bronzini as planned, with a side of sauteed veges, which included a mix of escarole. It took about 20 mins for the Bronzini to come out, which I was told it would take this long. They forgot the escarole and I had to remind the waiter half way through my meal. The Bronzini was delicious, though the skin was a bit tough, but still tasted good. I sprinkled some lemon juice and poured some melted butter they provided me over pieces of it. The meat just fell right off the bone, and I just had the occasional bone to pick off. During my meal, I felt like the waiter warmed up to me and was much friendlier. Plus, one of the waitresses stopped by and said I ordered the best fish they have. I replied that I knew and that it was my favorite type of fish. I told her how I first had it in the Amalfi coast and we agreed it was much better there. I eventually received the Escarole, after I reminded the waiter, and it was well worth the wait, especially with some lemon sprinkled on it. To top the evening off, he brought me a complimentary sweet semolina custard for dessert that was soooo gooood! I was sufficiently full after the meal, and everything was so good I think I almost felt some tears well up. I’m looking forward to my next visit here.

This place serves up legit Greek cuisine in Astoria, Queens! The clientele are mostly Greeks who live in the area and the staff seemed to all be from Greece. The menu is written in both Greek and English. I highly recommend ordering the Branzino and sharing it family style. Our fish was about 2.5 pounds and easily shared among six people. We also had the lamb chops which were really delicious. Be sure to ask them to cook it medium-rare otherwise it’ll come out medium-well. They kept bringing us complimentary veggie dishes to accompany all of our protein dishes. That was very nice of them. The grilled octopus is a stunning dish. The outside of the octopus tentacles are perfectly charcoal grilled and the inside is sweet and tender. The inside was almost creamy in texture. I’ve never had grilled octopus in the way Stamatis served it. I’d highly recommend ordering this dish even if you’re not usually an octopus fan. Stamatis is conveniently located near the N train and if you ever venture out to Astoria you should definitely stop by for some tasty Greek food.
