Agree with my good pal Janet G. This is the best Sushi in Athens. Or at least it was when I lived there. In the seven years I’ve been gone though, Utage has kept up it’s quality and has been top-notch every time I’ve visited. I usually have good service, but have to admit have never been there when pressed for time. When I lived downtown, I loved getting takeout – Miami Vice Roll and Octopus Salad – yummy!

Best sushi in town(that I’ve had!). The service is lacking, most of the time. Try if you will to find a time that it’s not crowded, and then you will cash in. Go when it’s crowded and there’s no telling if you’ll make your next appointment in a timely fashion. Why the high rating then? Because, more times than not, the sushi is wonderful! The Utage special roll is delicious. The Tiger Roll is scrumptious. The Philadelphia roll, my old standby, is better here than perhaps any other sushi bar. My beau loves the sake and the specials certain nights of the week make it quite affordable – one of the perks of living in a college town! Martini specials are frequent, as well, and we’re not talking low-class, crappy brand alcohol either. But back to the fish. It’s good. Once in a while I have a bad experience here with the service that taints me and makes me think, «Should I come back here for awhile?» But that evil sushi siren lures me back, reminding me that Ru San’s over on Alps Road is far inferior and Utage is the only way to go. Sometimes you wait longer but it’s not the rule. Try it and see what you think. Make a reservation if you have a large group.
