American Deli

Stop by this place after not being here in a long min. The cook didn’t use gloves before I told the manager about it. Not too happy about this place.

This is my spot! I eat here often and it’s the best restaurant in the area. This American Deli is located on the intersecting streets of MLK Jr. Dr. and H.E. Holmes Blvd. in a small plaza that includes a pharmacy, women’s hair supply store, and a 24 hour check cashing place. The restaurant is small and usually crowded but the food here for the most part is excellent.
When you first enter you’ll hear Mexican tejano music playing at a soft volume, as most of the staff working there is of Latin American heritage. They have only one cash register in operation and that’s usually manned by a young, friendly, black girl who could be in her late teens or early 20s. No matter how crowded it is there, she never lets it affect her attitude. And the people preparing the food never let the quantity of customers take away from the quality of your order. I’m not a very demanding customer, but I hate mayonnaise on my sandwich. One thing I’ve noticed about this deli is they’ve never messed up my order yet. If I request no mayo, then I get no mayo. And considering the amount of business they do, you don’t have to wait all that long before your food is ready. And when you get it, your food is hot and delicious.
The waiting area is clean even though some of the benches may be a little squeaky (but it’s no big deal). Most of the time there will be a street saleman walking around selling bootleg dvds and cds, etc., That may or may not be your cup of tea, but they’re harmless and will leave you alone if you don’t want to buy anything.
If you’re ordering lemon pepper, hot wings, or any other kind of wings for Super Bowl parties this American Deli is where you want to be. Besides the wings, I also like the chicken Philly sandwiches, the tilapia and whiting fish and the burgers. Sometimes, I will order three pieces of fish and open up the package and find four pieces in there. They also have a burger that sells for only $ 2.99 that’s larger than a Big Mac. Their shrimp fried rice plate with wings is good but they usually don’t put enough pieces of shrimp in there. Just last week, I ordered the turkey burger they’re now selling. It tastes so good it’ll make you want to slap your sidechick’s Mama!

Although their wings and chicken/​beef phillies are delicious; they need to get ALL the meats on their menu. If they had corned beef or roast beef, I would become a regular.
The staff is polite and they are pretty quick with take out orders. I’m giving 3 stars because they lack the rueben sandwich and other possible sub sandwiches. However, their hot and teriyaki wings are pretty tasty.
