Have you ever had a cold and no matter how much you normally like something, when you eat it with a cold its just a mushy flavorless mess? That is unfortunately how I compare my cheesesteak experience. I thought how can you mess up a philly? Well, I kept fluttering my tongue thinking one more bite and there will have flavor, but nope still nothing. My sandwich also has residual juice either from undrained meat or frozen bell peppers/onions(which is probably a reason for the lack of flavor). Anyhow, it made the bread all soggy bleh. I wanted to like it because the owner was nice, but I couldn’t lie to myself. I was so regretting having chosen this over the various food truck options. My husband even took a bite, and without a word laughed at me(yes he’s sometimes a big kid) for having chosen the philly because his choice was much better. Luckily he shared.

Easily the worst cheesesteak I have ever had after an overall terrible food truck experience. I immediately regretted this food decision after taking the first bite. I ordered a regular cheesesteak with onions. The cheese and onions were basically non-existent. There was some cheese tucked away in the fold of the bread. Other than that, nothing. I found one onion in the entire thing. A cheesesteak should have cheese on every bite… I shouldn’t have to search for it. All I was left with was dry steak and bread. I couldn’t even finish the sandwich. Not at all what I would have expected out of a truck that specializes in cheesesteaks.

Went on my lunch breaK and decided to try this spot. I must say for food out of a truck it was pretty good. I enjoyed it very much and I look forward to going back. I got a philly, it was hot and quick and there was no tax added.

Champion Cheesesteaks: Had my first and last one yesterday. They obviously pre-cook their steak and simply reheat it on a grill. Problem is, they didn’t leave it on long enough to get hot. They placed cheese on bottom of roll, which never melted and lacked distribution. My sandwich was also way to salty. Disappointing. I’ll try another truck sometime and hope for better results. Champion Cheesesteaks? They shouldn’t even have made the playoffs!

The cheesesteaks at this truck are incredible. Roy uses the authentic Amorosa rolls shipped down from Philly. The line is always long but only takes about 30 or 40 seconds to get your sandwich. The chef on the grill is the real deal too as he is moving at a sonic pace making the cheesesteaks. The chicken philly is also a delicious sandwich for those trying to lay off the red meat. In about another couple weeks they will be fully experienced and tearing up the food truck scene. Definatly be back for some more delicious sandwiches!

Being an enormous fan of Roy’s Cheesesteaks, I was excited to hear that Roy had entered the food truck game. This would reduce my commute to Roy’s out in Smyrna and put them within five minutes of my office every Thursday. So yesterday, I headed over to Street Food Thursday and got in line. The first thing I noticed about Roy’s was that the customer queue was longer than that of all of the competing food trucks. I thought to myself, «This is a good sign — they’re already popular.» This turned out to be an illusion of sorts. After hopping in line, I came to realization that the reason for the long line wasn’t that more customers were being served, but rather that the line was slow moving. I watched as others walked up to other surrounding trucks and walked away with their food in minutes flat. I thought to myself again, «Well the only reason the line is slow moving is because they cook to order.» Fresh food is good food, right? Wrong. When I unwrapped the sandwich, I realized it was completely tepid. I took a bite. My teeth took temporary pause at completely unmelted cheese(see photo). This unmelted cheese gave way(with much resistance) to some of the most flavorless steak I’ve ever had. Completely unseasoned. While the bread and onions were quite good, the sandwich was an utter disappointment. Was this the result of a cheesesteak never being able to live up to my heady expectations? I unwrapped my second one(yes, I got two). It was just as bad as the first. Roy, if you’re reading this, get some quality control on your truck. There’s really no excuse for unseasoned meat and completely unmelted cheese.
