Definitely more divey and«hole-in-the-wall-y» than I expected! It’s also really small. There was a weird smell towards the back as you got closer to the bathroom(and the kitchen too, hmm). Movie trivia was absolutely a blast though! My team *almost* won! Damnit. I still cannot get over my fatal error. After the movie trivia they actually show a movie on a large projector screen. I was skeptical but it was actually awesome! The sound was great and I really enjoyed watching Wedding Crashers for the bazillionth time while enjoying my $ 3 Foster’s. I would come back here, particularly on a Friday where I hear they have Family Feud trivia… …Survey says… Kewl

We went to this neighborhood bar to participate in Team Trivia as the usual spot we usually go to had trivia cancelled. I checked the website and discovered Charlie Mopps had it on Friday evenings. It wasn’t the trivia but the«Family Feud» game. Since it was our 1st time trying it, we thought it would be acceptable to do so. Upon entering the lot, it seems they have limited parking and you are subjected to a forced valet. I prefer self-parking myself, but it didn’t appear we had a choice. The valet parked the car and we entered the place. Even though the pace had a cool atmosphere the issue I had immediately was the smoking situation. It wasn’t at all comfortable being in there, if I had been possibly drinking and a bit buzzed. It might have been more tolerable. The crowd noise seemed to be more excessive compared to other places and the cleanliness of the restaurant seems a bit suspect. However, I do give it props for the wings and waffle fries. Our server was great despite the busy night and she was attentive. I ordered the Buffalo Wings and they seemed to be a little larger than the standard wings at other places. The sauce was mixed well with the wings and not over or under-cooked. I was somewhat pleasantly surprised. The waffle fries were your standard fare, but good nonetheless. The celery seemed fresh and the blue cheese dressings were plentiful. The food experience was decent. What I royally hated was the smoke inside the establishment. There might be a ventilation issue because it’s so overwhelming. We sat by 2 blokes smoking cigars which didn’t help the situation either. If it wasn’t for that. I would have ranked this place higher. However the atmosphere and bar seemed to be pretty cool and the people looked like they were having a great time.

It’s been a while since I first reviewed Mopps which has allowed time for some much-needed changes but also enabled me to be a bit more objective about the place. I still find Mopps to be a homey neighborhood pub-style bar. Its rustic character and noted Steelers fan base make the place comfortable to me. Service has always been very good. They have installed a couple new TVs and seemed to have repaired a couple that had poor pictures. However, as a sports bar, it has too few and poorly distributed TV’s such that they can be difficult to view by people positioned in the wrong place at tables. I often feel bad for friends at our table who arrive late and sit in positions that force them to have their backs to us in order to see the games. There are often good drink specials and the the range of beers on tap is quite good. The food I have tried has generally been good. I do like their lemon pepper wings however, my wing flavor of choice, hot, doesn’t have a lot of flavor to me and is just very spicy. So, I will stick with the lemon pepper wings and the sliders. I also noticed some refurbishment in the men’s bathroom in the way of new ceramic tiles and the bar was much less smokey the last time I was there(although it may have been because I was there for some early games). All in all, I continue to look forward to spending time with friends at Mopps(especially on Steeler game day) but better placed TVs would make a big improvement. 3 stars overall + ½ star for its homeyness to me and then rounded up to 4.

I want to like Charlie Mopps more, but I just don’t. I’m irritated at the forced valet that seems unnecessary. I try to park at the Car Tunes place next door if there’s a space. The lemon pepper wings are not bad, but I prefer buffalo style. I ordered mild wings, and they were bone dry and yet somehow still a bit oily. I asked for some extra mild sauce, since mine didn’t seem to have any. I got a plastic cup of weird vinegar-y sauce with a congealed grease at the top that I tried to get rid of with a piece of celery. In the end I just gave up and put a napkin over the overpriced wings so I wouldn’t see them and they’d get taken away. The drinks are a smidge overpriced for an OTP dive bar. And they don’t have any malt likka, which is what I want when I’m here, for some reason. The place is very very smoky, and my understanding of Georgia law is that allowing smoking means that at least there’s no kids allowed. And yet some asshat parent brought in their baby today. Really?(FAIL for both the parents and for Charlie Mopps.) There is a wall of televisions of varying size and quality. If you’re not facing the wall of telly, you might as well bring a book. And you’d better hope the game you’re interested in is on the big screen, because the other screens, well, really really suck.(I’m not tv afficianado, but having them so close together makes it obvious that some are better than others.) I’m giving them one star for fun times, because the crowd is mostly a fun and cool crowd.(Excepting the smokers and those who don’t seem to understand the concept of «babysitter».) And they get a second star for the fried green beans, which make the trek OTP worthwhile.

Beer, beer, beer, tiddly beer, beer, beer A long time ago, way back in history When all there was to drink was nothing but cups of tea Along came a man by the name of Charlie Mopps And he invented a wonderful drink and he made it out of hops Aptly named, Charlie Mopp’s Public House has beer. They also have wings, burgers, and lots of food. On Sundays they have $ 1 sliders, my favorite being the pork. They are really good. Wings are good too, especially the lemon pepper. They always have a special pint for $ 3 which is usually good. Not sure how I feel about the Charlie Mopps Wet Dream Cream Ale though. This is actually the place I first met anyone from Unilocal in January. I was very shy when I met them but the beer helped. I am not sure what it is with places OTP and older TVs but it always seems to be the case. They have a few decently new rear projection and DLPs but most of them are old rear projection or just old CRTs. Oh well. Apparently there are a lot of Steelers fans here. Some intelligent person decided that Steelers fans should blow a loud horn everytime something positive happens. Remind me to thank him later. People can, unfortunately, smoke inside, but it is well ventilated and I usually do not smell it. It can get annoying when it is packed for playoff games though. They also have a hippie band some Sundays. Hippies always frighten and confuse me. I enjoy coming here for games with the girl and others. Good food, good beer, and good company. The lord bless Charlie Mopps!

I was really miffed when Summit Tavern closed down and was replaced by this. Summit was one of my favorite places to go for Trivia night. So I refused to go to this Charlie Mopps place. So a year and a half passes, I calm down and end up coming to this place for poker night last week. They have certainly made some improvements! The interior is laid out a LOT better. Summit Tavern took the space they had and found the worst way to jam in tables. Charlie Mopps went and expanded the space slightly, put booths at the sides and did a far better job of laying out the remaining tables. Charlie Mopps also expanded the parking and got rid of the valet. At least it wasnt there when I was there on a Wednesday night. The area that used to be fenced off behind Charlie Mopps is now opened up and you can park there yourself. They seem to have reduced the number of beers available. I could be wrong, but I didn’t see a very extensive beer menu laying around. Otherwise the food tasted just as good. I’d recommend this place to anyone.

As with some other places I have reviewed there are things I love and hate about this place. What I love: the daily $ 3 pint special, hot wings, burgers, smothered tater tots, Swami’s playing almost every Sunday night, crowd /ambience during Steelers games. What I hate: the parking problem, erratic service, gets too crowded along the bar and way too smoky on most nights. bottom line: I will keep coming back because of the dedication to good beer, good music, and good, solid pub fare.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Steelers Fans, but I wasn’t that impressed. It is a dive bar, they smoke, and from what I remember there are no windows. Granted, I didn’t even look at the menu or eat anything here, so I may raise my rating if I think the food is really worth it… On the plus side they do have Sweetwater 420, so may venture back to see if they can impress me more second time around. I see how you could become a regular here and feel right at home, but even my house has better TVs. I was real disappointed the TVs weren’t HD, and the main one in the middle looked like it might crap out at a moments notice. Plus, from where we were sitting, if someone sat in the booths directly in front of us, they probably would’ve blocked the view to a TV or two.

We ventured in for Team Trivia(they play 2 games on Thursday). The team ordered an array of bar food: mini corndog basket, fried green beans, loaded tots, burgers. All items received the seal of approval. There were even fried twinkies ordered to celebrate our 2nd place win, which elicited mumbles of approval all around. The place itself leaves a bit to be desired. It’s not as smoky as its predecessor(Summits) and it appears cleaner, but the smoke situation is still problematic. Service last night was very slow, seems like a large crowd overwhelms the staff. The myriad of televisions made conversation difficult. Oh, and. .. . the tall barstool seating gets pretty uncomfy after an hour(the booths and regular seating are at a premium.) We’ll go back to spend our winnings, but I’m not sure this would be a destination otherwise.

Just a quickie: Fun atmosphere– especially during Steelers games when the crowd is cheerful and rowdy(assuming they are winning, of course!) Very good chicken fingers and waffle fries… mmmmm… Friendly, efficient, accurate service, even when crowded and our entire group pays by separate checks! HUGE glasses for ice water and Diet Coke so minimal refills even needed! Only downside is that it is SMOKY and there is limited parking with forced valet, even in afternoons on Sunday.

Well I am not a football fan, but I play one on Sundays for some good ass lemon pepper wings, and sweetwater beer. The service is great and the atmosphere is friendly and cozy. I’ve gone a few times BUT only during football season. They have valet on Sundays although I have NOCLUE why, But I am cool with it because it creates a job for someone. Anyway, I may make it a point to keep coming here on Sundays during football play-offs to drink beer, hang-out with good friends and most importantly EATLEMON-PEPPERWINGS.

I have been to Mopps several times this football season — joining Gretchen O. and the gang for some Steelers action. This Public House attracts a good crowd on Sundays and they love their Steelers. So, be prepared for a potential loss of hearing if the Steelers are scoring big. The main bar area has one wall covered with TV’s so you can catch other games if interested. The service is good and the beer reasonably priced and for those beer aficionados, a huge variety of beers on tap. I finally tried the lemon pepper chicken wings and have to say they were delish. Great flavor and perfectly deep fried. Mmmm. It’s been fun to come here and watch football with the group, but not sure I would head here for any other reason. Oh, and valet parking — I mean, really…

Charlie Mopps is my favorite neighborhood dive bar. It is a great spot to enjoy a multitude of beers on tap, interesting bar food, and see live music. It is a great alternative to the overly crowded Taco Mac on game days as well. For the beer fan, Mopps keeps an online list of recently tapped kegs and always has a $ 3 pint special. They bring in some of the best local blues and folk acts in the area on a nightly basis. The food is traditional bar fare(nothing special), but they mix up the usual burgers and wings with things like plantains, fried green beans, and bleu cheese chips. This isn’t the spot to take a first date, but an outstanding choice to grab a heady brew after work with friends. Smoking is permitted, but it is hardly noticeable. Trivia nights can get crowded, so know before you go and check the website. Everyone I have ever brought to Mopps has been back time and time again. Enjoy!

Ok, I’m all about second chances but that is it… Service was slow, took about 30 mins to get water?!? Come on water? 30mins? Food was still oily and had an odd after taste like they haven’t replaced the oil in weeks before frying. Never going back again. Thx for nothing assholes! I’ve seen all the reviews and they are all raving about this place, but I don’t get it its a dump. It’s true they have a great selection of beer, but their food and service is horrendous…

Home of an Unofficial Unilocal Event [ in Atlanta, I decided to drive inside the perimeter for some football viewing with friends. The Good: + For Steelers and Jaguars fans away from home, this is a great place to watch the games on Sunday. There were a lot of Steelers and Giants jerseys in the crowd. The bartender was wearing an Osi Umenyiora jersey. That was pure comedy. Also for Steelers fans, there was a rowdy group of superfans in the front who were in charge of raffles for little gifts, such as socks, bottle openers, decals, etc. It was fun to get people riled up during halftime. + The valet dude was cool about the mandated parking since I found a spot outside. + Smithwicks on tap… I was at Barnacles for the 1 o’clock game and the bartender gave me the WTF look when I asked for it. Actually this bar has a lot of beer on tap… probably more than 60+. Impressive! + The only food I could comment on was the fried green beans. Interesting. I was full from lunch otherwise I would have tried the sliders. + I could not complain about my bartender service. She was fine. + The atmosphere is loud(air horns and terrible towels) and sports oriented with a dive-like décor. + As the Steelers were losing, there was a close call on a scuffle(between smack talkers). However the bouncer ran up, yelled at the fools and told them to sit down like little kids. They complied. + I bought people drinks and my bar tab was still cheap. The Bad: — As a NY resident, it takes a while to get adjusted to see smoking indoors. — Although there are multiple televisions, they are of different sizes which is unnerving. In addition, the center large screen is blurry. Please replace it. The Ugly: – I would have tried more cool beers such as Charlie Mopps Wet Dream Cream Ale, Heavy Seas Loose Cannon, and Rogue Double Dead Guy. Next time, I bring a DD. IFHTP1

This is a true Steeler Bar: Polamalu, Roethlisberger, and Ward on people’s backs; air horns and cheers after every Steeler score; volume on the only game that counts; and lots of Steeler give-a-ways. The joint is smokey, but well ventilated; they have lots of interesting beer on tap; and just about everything on the menu is fried hard and greasy… nice place. Thanks G.O. and most importantly, THESTEELERSWON!!!

Charlie Mopp’s is a bit more divey than I originally expected but it’s a solid bar. They have so many beers on tap and the food isn’t shabby. Our group came here after dinner and drank at the patio enjoying a warm ATL night. From my experience, sitting at the patio = no service but the waiter came and checked on us pretty often. As far as bars go, this place is above average. Yes, people smoke inside but it doesn’t get that bad. It’s not like a theres a 2 feet layer of smoke forming from the ceiling. Decent food and good variety of beer = good time with a group of friends.

The inside of this place is about as big as a shoe box, and the parking lot is even smaller. Charlie Mopps used to be a Summits Tavern, and before that I think it was a Taco Mac. Aside from the new fancy name that sounds like some Broadway musical about a janitor, nothing about this place has really changed. Same food, same look, same hole in the wall sports bar/pub. The waiter did a decent job. He seemed to enjoy writing text messages while he took our beer/food order on several occasions, which revealed how much enthusiasm he had for his job. The beer menu also has a few zesty new selections to choose from, for those of you interested in unique micro-brews.

This is a cool pub next to American Pie. Food is decent and service friendly. Definitely a college crowd kind of atmosphere but still a great time for a group of friends. Great location too — right next to American Pie! Will definitely be visiting here again.
