This stylists at this salon are friendly and they cut hair well enough… but getting there is a chore. Let me explain… Open another tab on your browser and go to the DASS website. Now, try to find a phone number to call for an appointment. You see a large block that says«Make an appointment» so you click on it. It takes you to another screen where it asks you for your user name and password. Uh, what if I don’t have one? Easy. It tells you to simply get one from the front desk assistants the next time you’re at DASS. OK… but I’m not there now and I still need to make an appointment, so what should I do? Hmmm… didn’t think of that one, did you DASS? So you scroll backwards until you find a tiny link that says«Contact us,» where there is one phone number for all the salons, not the number to your specific location of choice. Finally, a way to make an appointment. Why are you being so difficult, DASS? Do you want to make it hard for people to give you business? And, to top it off, that’s not where the difficulties end… So you arrive at Lenox Square Mall and track down the salon. You can see it through the gigantic glass wall of windows. As you approach, you wonder which one of these windows is the door. You pick the one that looks the most obvious to be a door… but you’re wrong. Actually, none of them are doors. You have to take an escalator upstairs, where a girl is standing behind a counter, waiting to check you in… only to take you BACK downstairs where you just came from, except this time, you’re on the other side of the glass. I know, it’s completely weird and pointless. It’s one of those things where somebody(probably the owner) obviously said«Hey, wouldn’t it be cool if we had people come to our salon and they could see it on level 2, but had to take an escalator to level 3 to check-in, only to be brought back to level 2 to actually get in here?» At this point, the other people in the room should have told this person«No, that’s so not cool you dumbass… actually it’s kinda annoying and pointless.» But nobody had the guts to say anything… and it became reality. I kid you not, that while I was getting my hair cut, I witnessed 2 other people walk into the glass wall just as I did, assuming it to be a door, finding out it wasn’t, scratching their heads and then stumbling over to the escalators. I bet this happens 12 times a day, if not more. If I was sadistic, I’d put a camera up on this wall to record it happening and then release the clips on YouTube. DASS, you’re trying way too hard to be cool… and we all know what happens when you have to try.

Crap!!! I can’t book my usual stylist. What do I do when my usual stylist isn’t open on Sundays and Monday(and most of the stylists in Atlanta) are closed because that is their weekend? I was in a bit of a panic because I needed to get a haircut to look presentable for my interview the next day. After calling many places and finding out that they were closed. I finally remembered a salon at Lenox mall and figured they would be open on Monday. Turns out that I was right! Dass is open 7 days a week. They get 5 stars for that. They need stay open when the mall is open. I walked in and the Salon/Spa is HUGE!!! You have to take a freaking escalator to go to the salon downstairs. The facilities at Dass is very nice. They can handle volume… I see a lot of sinks to wash hair and hair cutting stations. They get 4.5 stars for nice facilities. I was able to walk in and get a stylist right away. My stylist was Daniel. He is a balding Iranian man. He kind of scared me because I thought«Can a balding man cut hair?» Well apparently he has been cutting hair for 10 years. For my haircut I just needed my sides cut and my top hair length shorten. He thinned it out on top, used a clipper on the sides and blended it in. After he was done I noticed the top half on the sides of my head could’ve been blended in better. The left side of my head compared to my right side seemed longer. He could’ve made the sides of my head more even. Other than the sides, he gave me a good fauxhawk shape on top. For his years of experience and my cut… I would give it a 3 stars. The one down side about Dass is that you can’t tip on a credit card. You can pay with a credit card to pay for your haircut but you can’t leave tip on top of that. You either have to give cash or check. In all seriousness… why would you not let customers not tip on a credit card? That is stupid! Get with the 21st century… people are paying with credit cards more often. They get one star for that. Luckily I had some cash on me to tip. For my haircut, it was $ 35. Not bad. Give it 3.5 stars for price. All in all, I would give Dass 3 stars. It’s a good place. I will keep this place as my back up place if I can’t get my usual stylist. I probably won’t go to Daniel again, I would be willing to try other stylists.

I never thought a salon in a mall would become my regular hair cut place, but Dass exceeds expectations for a low price and I keep coming back. AMELIA is my new absolute favorite. For $ 25 I received a shampoo, cut, blowdry, and styling! That’s a lot for my long, extra-thick hair. The first time I saw Amelia she actually CURLED my hair(with a hair straightener) and she did not charge anything extra! Fabulous! Amelia cut my hair in a new style and I love it. Her skills are above-average and– as if it’s too much to ask– she actually cuts my hair straight. Some other places can’t manage that. The one important thing to remember is you must pay tip with CASH. There’s a nearby Bank of America ATM but I got slammed with $ 4 in bank fees for using it.

This salon is TERRIBLE. DONOT go here for color. I had highlights done and I came out looking like a yellow highlighter. I asked for partial highlights and I wanted it to look natural and not chunky. My hair came out looking like a trashy bright yellow highlighter. Absolutely terrible and I will never go back!

My daughter visited this salon on the base of the adivce of another Unilocaler and she enjoyed her visit and can’t wait to go for appointment next week. She thinks that Trishca listened to what she wanted and really gave her a great funky cut which all her friends have asked where she went so they can make an appointment to. A shampoo/cut was $ 55

So I decided this morning wanted a change of hair. I’m such an impulse kinda gal(from hair coloring to cutting). so I thought to myself. time for change! but where to go on a Sunday? after checking Unilocal I decided on Dass!(I tried to get Lauren’s Mark. but apparently he no longer works with the company *was what I was told*) so I said well just plleeasssee book me with someone who knows what they are doing! I went in for a dry cut. yea so I can see exactly what they are doing. you know African American wet hair dries and shrinks. So I got scheduled with Trisha(who apparently does the super nice tattooed-rocker like receptionist hair as well) I was hoping for edgy cut just like hers! I went in with an idea of what I wanted by the stylist advised me not to the layers(I love it when a stylist tells you no matter what NO that will look bad. lol)…and instead she offered me a deconstructed bob type hairstyle. 30 min later I was out of the chair with a hip cut and an updated bob! Trisha definitely knows what shes doing and what will fit you and your face. And yes like the previous reviewers this is no great clips so prepared to drop a bit of dough($ 30−50+ depending on your stylists level), also bring cash for tips(they don’t have a tip line on the credit slip)

I’m not used to paying big bucks for a haircut, but I was in a bind for time and needed a haircut badly when I found myself at Lenox mall and DASS was about the only option. They took me as a walk-in right away(I guess I was lucky). Lauren Roberts has been cutting my hair ever since. I think she does a fantastic job and I give her 5 stars. The only reason I’m giving an overall 4 stars instead of 5 is that the place does have a stuffy vibe to it — a bit pretentious. It’s also pretty inconvenient unless you just happen to be at the mall. Oh, and it’s also a pretty pricey if you’re used to The Hair Cuttery like I was. What keeps me going back is a solid haircut and never having to worry if it’ll turn out ok.

I got a great haircut here once, and then I went back and the guy was gone… So I went to a random girl, asking her to trim up my fo’hawk that I had at the time. UGH. She finished up and said, «Look, it’s just like a Hershey Kiss on your head!» No! That’s not what anyone should want a fo’hawk to look like! I nearly shaved my head. I wore hats for months until it was long enough to get fixed. All hail Cregg from Grow for fixing the horrendous mistakes of DASS girl!

i really liked the atmosphere of the salon and heard good things about the quality of the service. i had kind of a clueless passively racist stylist, which soured me on the whole experience. but the cut i ended up with was definitely above-par and the price was just right. i’ll probably go again and just make sure to go to a different stylist.
