Buffett style lunch. Food was ok for the price. Different items everyday. Only 3 stars bc the food was limited in items and they ran out of something and didn’t replace it till we were ready to leave. My recommendation is to take allot of what you like, it may not be available again before you have to leave. Service was good. There were 8 of us(2 tables which was fine. We didn’t expect anything else) and I didn’t hear one complaint. Like I said, food was ok.

I would defiantly recommend this restaurant if you enjoy authentic Mexican food, this restaurant is a hole in the wall nd the food was great! The lady who took my order was very kind with exceptional customer service. I will be a returning customer!

Oh let me count the ways I love this place. Quaint and clean dining room with Latin music playing off of a YouTube playlist. This is the epitome of why I love mom and pop shops. But enough about the décor, the stars go to the food! I only have ver had lunch at Don Chon and to say the food is phenomenal is an understatement. There is always a buffet of beans, rice, some sort of fried fish, grilled chicken, ground beef, and enchiladas. The buffet is great to make whatever concoction you can think of. You can also order off the menu, I recommend the enchiladas; always good, although never taste the same as the ones before, but always amazing! I haven’t pinpointed the region or style of food, but I don’t give a damn! As for the service, it’s always great; it’s akin to going over to your family’s house for a meal.

The food, especially the a la carte offerings of individual tacos, quesadilla, and other items paired with fresh made hot sauces and salsas make this a 4 star for me. There is abuffet which is usually good and sometimes great. The atmosphere is «hole in the wall» so it might not be for everyone but should be adestination for anyone who craves authentic Mexican street food made with pride.

This was the worst experience of my life. If there is ever a compelling reason to completely wipe a city off the map, Don Chon is it. The buffet was pitiful. I asked for a side of queso since none was offered, and was brought out a bowl of shredded cheese. At least they offered some form of store-bought cookies for dessert. Except they were raisin and not chocolate chip. If you ever find yourself in Hapeville and are hungry, just go to the Dwarf House. If it’s Sunday or just extremely crowded, just head straight for 75 N and head into Atlanta. Or kill yourself. Just don’t go to Don Chon.

The owner is a fabulous cook. The buffet is what she finds that day and cooks in an authentic Mexican style.(Sometimes you have to watch the spice) Even more special is the al la carte menu: tacos, burritos, sopes, and torte. The tacos are fabulous. With a taco order you get a spread of sauces and toppings that are freshly made and flavorful. Some in the past have found this place to be too divey, but this place started on a shoestring and they keep plowing the money back into the restaurant.

Worst experience I ever had. I went there for lunch and asked what was on the buffet, the lady explained the few items and said the meat was chicken. I got a few chips that were covered in grease, enchilada, and salad. When I took a bite of the enchilda I bite into pork which I have not ate in 10 years, I explained to the waitress that I don’t eat pork and she said OK and went to the back and grabbed some old lady who acted like she didn’t speak English and demanded I pay. I gave them half and walked out.

Hapeville as a city is very quietly putting itself back on the map with a commitment to revitalizing its historic downtown district. No one asked me of course, but man, what better way to show you mean business on the main stage than with a brand new Mexican buffet restaurant right in the middle of it all? Just out of a meeting with some Hapeville city planners it wasn’t on my list to grab a bite while I was in town but my taco radar scans 360 degrees at all times and when I saw Don Chon I had to check it out. Everything you would expect from a mom and pop Mexican restaurant is in place here: small dining area, Mexican music in the background, the ubiquitous television, families, noise, all of that. You eat in cramped quarters under the watchful eye of Pancho Villa portraits on the wall(so behave yourself) while the smell of purple Fabuloso cleaner hangs in the air as their quick and efficient staff cleans and re-sets the tables. In terms of selection, the buffet offerings were truly all over the map but everything I tried was tasty in its own subtle little way. Among the many things I sampled, the chicken fajitas had a nice spice nuance and the spaghetti had a fine garlic flavor. The most unexpected for me, however, was the black beans. I have been burned out on those things ever since a ‘black bean craze’ hit Austin 20 years ago and it seemed like even your ice water came with a side of them. At Don Chon they were excellent… slightly nutty and creamy in flavor –and– cooked with a generous dose of epazote as a considerate measure for your coworkers back at the office or for anyone who might have to stand near you after lunch. The food is hanging around an honest 3 stars but the staff and owners were friendly and sweet people so let’s bump this bad boy up to 4. Check it out!
